Intel Mac :: Shows Startup Disk Almost Full - Few Apps Installed

Jun 22, 2012

I have an iMac that is less than a year old and I have very few applications installed other than what comes on it. I recently received a message that my startup disk was almost full. I keep all of my media on an external drive, have an apple time machine that stores the backups. I purchased the Space Gremlin and there is nothing on the hard drive that shows it's taking up that much space. The 500 GB hard drive shows only 11 GB free.

Mac Pro :: Macintosh HD Nearly Full?

Apr 22, 2012

The default 'Macintosh HD' hard drive on my Intel Mac Pro (OSX10.6.8) is almost full and I'd like to clone it to a new larger capacity drive. To keep things simple I will remove the existing drive and keep it safe as a backup. I understand that I can clone the drive to a new one and make the new one bootable using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or the Apple Disk Utility but I just have a couple of quick questions.

Firstly I believe I must partition the new disk in Disk Utility using a GUID Partition table. What about the naming of the disk? Again to keep things simple I would like the new disk to be named 'Macintosh HD'.

Regardless of what I name the new disk when it is initially formatted/partitioned will the cloning process also copy the 'Macintosh HD' name to it? Can you have two disks with the same name connected to the Mac Pro at the same time during the clone process?

Secondly, will the cloning process in the Apple Disk Utility automatically make the new drive bootable or are there further steps required after the clone is made?

Finally, if I use the Apple Disk Utility to create the clone should I do this from the original Snow Leopard DVD that came with the Mac Pro or should I use the latest version that is on the installed Mac OSX?

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Disk Utility Stopped Verifying 'Macintosh HD'

Apr 1, 2012

I've been getting a Kernel Panic about once or twice a day.I tried the disk repair utility to see if that fixes the problem. I received the message in a dialog box:Disk Utility stopped verifying 'Macintosh HD' This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD. Restart your computer, holding down the Command key and the R key until you see the Apple logo. When the Mac OS X Utilities window appears, choose Disk Utility.I tried restarting holding command-R. After a minute or two, I see the Apple logo. Then, after another couple minutes, I see a big grey circle-slash. Below that, I see the small loading progress circle. This does not go away - it stays there until I restart.

I created a separate user account, that did not exist before to do it. Do I need to create a root account? Is there an easy way to copy /Macintosh HD/Macintosh HD/ to /Macintosh HD/?

MacBook Air :: Remote Disk Nothing At All Shows Up

I'm having with Apple Remote Disc. I'm using a MacBook Air (1st gen) and the optical drive from a Dell Inspiron 1720. I was using Remote Disc successfully with Vista 32-bit, but upgraded to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and I cannot get it to work now. I've followed the install instructions from Apple's website (have the latest version 1.0) and sharing is enabled. I've tried turning off Windows firewall, but no dice. When I click on "Remote Disc" nothing at all shows up. They are connected to the same network... I don't know what gives.

OS X :: Airport Shows Connection (Full Bars) - Can't Access Internet

Mar 4, 2009

This problem has been going on for a couple of months now. I use my macbook at 2 places: school and home. At school, when I click the school network under airport, it connects and shows the full bars. But when I open safari/firefox, the page won't load and I get the error message when you're not connected. However, sometimes after like an hour of persisting and retrying, it will be able to access the internet for a little bit for like an hour or so maybe, and then it'll stop working. At home, it's the same thing. It will connect to my home network (got wireless at home set up through my desktop PC), and show the full connection on airport, but it won't access the internet for the life of me. The difference is I can never gt it to connect unlike at school where it sometimes works, except that it worked for like one day out of the last 2 months (and I didn't change any settings then so it's not like I can attribute it to that). Also, I am absolutely positive that the networks of my home/school computer and the router settings etc. aren't to blame. Reason is that my friends with macbooks can access the internet both using my home network and the school network (the school one is obvious). What could possibly be going wrong? Any settings on my macbook that I can change / completely reset? Is the network card or something messed up? I'm contemplating just completely formatting my laptop to see if it fixes the issue. I have leopard installed btw.
