Since the recent software update (early Feb I believe) my Mac has begun to freeze, first finder, then safari/chrome, followed by all other applications.
I have set up Activity Monitor to track what is causing the issue, however when the computer freezes I cannot open Activity Monitor (obviously).
I have contacted Apple Care with the hope that they could provide some assistance, we deleted all startup files (and the other startup related files in library), ran disk utility and repaired permissions.
We noticed that spotlight was using a lot of the CPU, and I removed my external time machine harddrive (as it appeared that it was damaged).
The freezing still occured, so I reinstalled Lion. The computer appeared to be working again... until it began to freeze again.
Info:
iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3), 16g ram, 2tb harddrive.
My iMac, which was new Christmas 2011, has developed a strange fault. If the computer is left idle for any length of time, I then find that there is no sound and the speaker symbol at the top of the screen has disappeared. Sound is only regained by rebooting.
I have this macbook that at the beginning was working great, but now, since a couple o week doesn't sleep anymore when left idle. I have tried quitting tons of deamons, programs turning off sharing and so on. Nothing. I set the sleep timer at 1 minute to check it. Nothing. It won't sleep. The curios thing is that unlike other user with the same problem who sleeps the computer manually and they find it on some minutes later, my macbook can sleep for days if manually put in sleep (Lid or Sleep from the menu). No automatic waiking, it just can't sleep when left idle. This is not the first time it happens. Some month ago the only solution was reformatting the drive and reloading Leopard. Right now i don't want to this again as i just loaded Snow Leopard since day 1.
So, summing up here's my situation:
the macbook can sleep manually (lid or menu). the macbook stay in sleep without waking up (just wake with normal wake). the macbook doesn't go to sleep if left idle for the time set in system pref (but it shut down. the monitor according to prefs). the macbook runs 10.6.1 with a new system, without loading anything, the computer can sleep if left idle. i can't tell if i have installed something that have screw up things. Just normal apps...
i can provide you as many logs as you want, just tell me which you need.
Here is a list of my processes running now, (sleep not working)
I run into a problem from time to time where Firefox 12 will freeze and then all other programs with becom unresponsive and OS will freeze and I'll need to hard restart the computer.

I have a steady stream of spikes in my network tab of activity monitor despite being idle on the internet, not browsing any pages or downloading anything. Does this mean I am being hacked?
On my late 2011 imac 21.5" I have been getting a consistent problem since the last OS update. After the screensaver comes on, or, if left to sleep by it's own devices, either my screensaver freezes or the gray screen won't recover from sleep. If I move the cursor with the trackpad it clears the gray screen where the cursor moves around. I can usually clear enough that I can hit the login button and log in after pushing the power button. This is a new phenomenon since the latest OS update.
I've been using Pc's for the past 30 odd years so am totally new to Mac. I'm doing my best to adapt to this new different OS and so far have found some things more user friendly but others ? I've more or less given up on those as Mac doesn't seem to do those things. These are probably Windows based and I'm assuming Mac has its own alternatives that I haven't discovered yet. Anyway, my immediate problem is this goddamned frustrating situation when I try to re-activate the comp' after waking it from 'sleep'. Sometimes its fine but others, it comes back on but freezes and the only option I have is to turn it off at the switch and do a re-boot!
iMac 27 late 2009 freeze while is working. Nothing works on computer even when a video is playing. I have a 12 GB of RAM and 502 GB free disk space. I checked disk utility and CPU is working fine. I don't know why the iMac is freezing with so much space.
I bought an iMac about 2 weeks ago and when accessing files from external hard drives I will get the spinning beach ball and all of the programs will become unresponsive and the only way to relieve the problem is to power down the computer. We have two 3 TB Seagate HDs connected via USB.
When i play battlefield 3 in WINDOWS 7 on my brand new iMac 27" i 7, after some time the computer gets EXTREMLY hot and graphics start to freeze. Im 100% sure its the graphic card/ processor who gets to warm. It sounds like the fans runs on full power to. (it only happens in windows)
I have tried repairing permissions, rebooting, verify disk and onyx. I do not have many apps installed, no login items, 5 items on desktop, 107gb left on my hd, no antivirus, and nothing processor or memory intensive running. Also, when I try to delete custom prefpanes system preferences freezes with the spinning wheel. Some apps (mainly keynote) often freeze unexpectedly causing me to lose all my work.
Recently a some my of applications such as firefox, i tunes, skype, i cal, have been having problems. When i open them up they instantly stop responding and freeze when they try connect online. i then have to force quit the applications.
My Macbook has started to freeze up constantly after startup, applications are non-responsive. I can still move the mouse around the screen when this happens but the pointer soon turns into the beach-ball icon and after 5 minutes things go back to normal but only for a minute or two before everything starts freezing up again. There is a clicking noise coming from inside the mac whenever this happens.I have run a virus check which reported no infections and i have uninstalled all programs installed since the problem occurred but to no avail.
I'm a annoying issue with itunes. When watching podcast or videos. Every now and then there will be a 2-3 second freeze of video and audio. I've been having this issue since i bought the MBP. Has anyone seen this issue?

I am running 10.3.9 on a PowerBook G4. I installed a bunch of fonts (through Font Book) about 2 years ago, and since that time some of my apple apps freeze from time to time. Namely, Calculator, Text Edit and Safari. I also noticed that in this state, the AutoUpdates don't download. I found a solution of overwriting the required system fonts (especially Keyboard and LastResort), then rebooting. Normally, this sets it right.
However, now my Installer is freezing (trying to install a new Adobe product), as well as Disk Utility. (This means I can't fix those permissions or do First aid, since the Disk Utility freezes). I have not tried reinstalling OS X yet. Might this be related to "Helvetica Neue"?
noticing that screen shifts left and right by about 1 to 2" and freezes temporarily during shift. curor still moves but unable to select anything. problem started after upgrade to lion on mid2010 imac.
This morning I woke up and my iMac, which I had left sleeping, would switch on. As I discovered, for some reason the power cord had been disconnected. Once I connected it again, nothing would happen when I pressed the start button, not a noise... nothing.
When i am closing firefox or safari sometimes it leaves blurred remnants of the last image on the screen. If i click and make a window around the remnants irt will disapear but i am worried that maybe my video card is going.
I see since several months some shadows and spots on the top left corner of the screen. I've read in many threads that this is a known issue (defect I would say, since I never misused my iMac).
My question is:
is this defect recognized by Apple and do they fix it for free?
So i haven't had one single problem with my Imac for 1.5 years until Yesterday I recently recieved a SD card that i purchased off ebay and stuck it into the side which I was expecting to popup but didn't This may or may not be the reason why my Imac is acting wierd but basically I cannot Left click at ALL, right click works, the internet works
