Intel Mac :: Lion Does Not Install / Reverts Back To OSX 10.7.4
Jul 2, 2012
I am trying to install OSX Lion onto my Late 2009 iMac 27" computer. I download it from the App Store and install it via the installer. The computer restarts itself and finishes installing, then once it restarts again it boots back into OSX 10.7.4. No errors or problems, just never follows through on install once completed.

I bought a used 80GB for my iBook G4 and loaded my Leopard install disc. I followed the prompts and successfully installed 10.5. I say this because the message with a green check mark was shown at the end of installation. Upon restart, instead of opening the setup/registration process, the system reverted back to the install window. Tried this 3 times with the same result.

I have a bunch of mp3 files that I would like to rename the original file name. Itunes only allows me to change metadata, but to fix broken names and keep organized, I need to change the file name. Once I rename the file, it shows the new name, and then upon playing it, it reverts back to the original name. I do not have any locked permissions. I have parallels and tried to rename them on the windows 7 side but same effect. I tried to shut all programs off so the file was not in use. I even tried to export it as a acc file type. I am exhausted looking for a solution, this is why I am using this forum as a last ditch effort.

I've seeing a problem with Time Machine with one of my external drives. Here's my setup:MBP 15"OSX 10.7.4Work external drive - Seagate GoFlex, via USBHome external drive - Western Digital Green, via USBÂ
I had been using both home and work drives as Time Machine backups, and things were working fine. I would have to re-designate the appropriate Time Machine backup drive when I changed locations, but everything was working.Â
The problem:When I attach the work drive and point Time Machine to the drive, it works. When I eject the work drive, the Time Machine prefs panel shows "Time Machine - work" in greyed out text as the target drive, reflecting that the drive is not available. When I attach the home drive and point Time Machine to the drive, it works. But when I eject the home drive, the Time Machine prefs panel shows "Macintosh HD" in normal text as the target drive. Worse, I think it actually attempts to back up to the internal drive, because at the next Time Machine backup interval, I get a "The identity of the backup disk has changed" error from Time Machine.Â
I've tried a full reset of Time Machine by deleting the prefs file. I've also tried verifying the home external disk.Â

I am not using Time Machine as Genius Bar at the Apple store told me it was best not to (I was continually having errors and so GeniusBar erased my hard drive and reinstalled Lion). They said to then manually drag over documents onto my hard drive, avoiding the Applications, so no possible errors could be dragged back onto the clean hard drive.
But now I have Mail and none of my folders and previous accounts. Of course I can re-setup my accounts, but then they will just try to redownload all of the millions of emails I had before. None of the very organised folders I previously had, sent messages, etc, etc.

I wanted to play around with GIMP, so I downloaded it and it told me that I must have xQuartz installed. I installed it and it apparently damaged my OpenGL engine. Now when I open Photoshop psd files with 3D effects, I get the following dialog box:Â
I have to assume that it is xQuartz that did the dirty deed.Â
I Googled but could not find a way to delete it ad get back to X11 (and, hopefully, OpenGL). I could always do a restore from an older Time Machine back-up, I know, but I'd lose a lot. And I don't really remember when I installed it - last week sometime.Â

I just bought Lioin for my iMac, when I was told by Applecare to purchase it so I could upgrade to iCloud, she said the same license will work for up to 3 or 4 other Macs with the same ID. I just have one (my MacBook Pro) but don't know how to download without getting charged for another license.Â

Lion recovery update from the software update won't install. Keeps spooling (I think that is the word for the updaet never seems to finish updating). I usually have to ignore the update...but why won't my iMac accept the update? I am running Lion 10.7.3 on a late 2009 iMac 4gb memory, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I'm using Lion and I can't run some of my powerpc programs. Want to install tiger on a partition (Extended Journaled type) made on Lion using Disk Utility, my only question here is: Will it work if I've burned on a DVD the installer of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Install DVD (PPC) and then run the instalation and trigger it to this partition? Or if this is not the proper way, which is it? I would really love to have both OS on my iMac 24-in Intel Core 2 Duo mid 2007.
I've read that newer macs won't accept this procedure I'm trying to pull out, but my actual iMac (2007) came with Tiger installed on it, but the install disk is lost, tried to find it but I never could.

did a search under "sleep," couldn't find anything. If I don't touch my running iMac (OS 10.5.7) for five minutes or so, it reverts from a running state to some kind of sleep state--desktop replaced by screen saver, all running programs shut down, document I'm working on (using NeoOffice) closes. Computer is brand-new, system preferences/energy saver settings are: both sliders set at "never," no boxes checked, all are off. Damn thing is doing it on its own. Is there anything else I can reset, or is this a gitch?

I had to interrupt the migration assistant and it seems that some of my applications and documents are incomplete (files missing/broken) I have heard the best way to solve this problem is to restore the macs factory settings, then start the migration assistant over again. What is the best way to do this?

Have just installed 10.7.4. Now, I finally have to hose PPC (and even some hangover Classic) applications. I know, I know, I should have done it earlier, before even Snow Leopard. For me, the easiest place to ID them is in ABOUT THIS MAC ➜ MORE INFO ➜ SYSTEM REPORT ➜ SOFTWARE ➜ APPLICATIONS ➜ which in the sub categories of CLASSIC and PPC are rosters of > 250 items. How to trash them from this window? Or elsewhere? I’ve tried click-and-drag (both singly and by batch) delete (both singly and by batch), all unsuccessfully.

I upgraded to Lion after its release and ever since then my wifi has been driving me crazy. The wifi disconnects, and when I click on my network I get the error that the connection timed out. I'm always forced to turn the wifi off and then back on. It happened a ton, and consistently. It's extremely frustrating especially when I'm in the middle of a movie on my Apple TV and my iMac loses its internet and interrupts the show. Sometimes it happens three or more times during one show. So I decided to do a clean install of Lion. I made sure all my important documents were on my Hard Drive and even wrote a list out of every application that I use regularly. Then I completely reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Lion.

Just installed Snow Leopard (10.6) a few days ago, and most things are working as expected. However, I find that when I customize the Safari (4.03) toolbar, it will remain in that form until I quit. But when I open Safari again, the customized toolbar appears for a few seconds, and then reverts to the default. Very frustrating, as I have to customize it each time I open it in order to use buttons that have vanished. Firefox (ew) is fine, by the way.

Recently I bought a WD UBB HD to store my music on. I've moved everything over and works great. However, I noticed one night after ripping some of my CDs that they were going back to the default iTunes folder. I'm suspecting that this may be happening if I open iTunes before the HD mounts. Is this true? Is there a way to prevent iTunes from doing this? Or a prompt alerting me that it can't find the USB device and if it should revert to the default. Also, how can I easily move the music over to my USB HD. Can I just do Consolidate Library and not worry about losing anything?

I initially set up my MacBrook Pro Retina (late 2013 - Mavericks) with one of the default images for my user account and the same for iMessage.
I've changed me user account avatar to the image I want OK, but I've tried just about everything to permanently change the iMessage avatar - it just keeps defaulting to the original image (an eagle). The image i'm using is saved locally. I've tried all different file formats, including .tif (the same format as the system default images)I've even added the image I want into the HDD>User Library>User Pictures>Animal (same place as the system default images).Â
But, every time I change it, then restart iMessage - it's back to default. System reboot has the same effect, obviously.

Installed an update for WePrint Server APP which popped up onscreen. Downloaded update, installer program loaded, selected drive, and install was successful. Closed the install program window (Safari open in background along with other programs running in dock, but not on screen), but the Installer menu bar remained on the top of the screen. Lost the OSX Lion Status / menu bar, the Apple icon, time, user, etc. Was able to use Safari, but not without hesitation.
The Safari menu bar at the top of the screen never appeared while in Safari, the Install Program menu did not disappear, even thought there was no evidence that the program was still running. No icon in dock, no hidden screen page or window. Closed all the running programs in the docks, and checked Force Quit, (ctrl+alt+esc) and no installer program remained. Unable to shut off or restart the computer without using the on / off button on the back of the intel mac monitor. Once rebooted all seems well.
