I bought a used 80GB for my iBook G4 and loaded my Leopard install disc. I followed the prompts and successfully installed 10.5. I say this because the message with a green check mark was shown at the end of installation. Upon restart, instead of opening the setup/registration process, the system reverted back to the install window. Tried this 3 times with the same result.

I download it from the App Store and install it via the installer.The computer restarts itself and finishes installing, then once it restarts again it boots back into OSX 10.7.4. No errors or problems, just never follows through on install once completed.

Itunes only allows me to change metadata, but to fix broken names and keep organized, I need to change the file name. Once I rename the file, it shows the new name, and then upon playing it, it reverts back to the original name. I do not have any locked permissions. I have parallels and tried to rename them on the windows 7 side but same effect. I tried to shut all programs off so the file was not in use. I even tried to export it as a acc file type. I am exhausted looking for a solution, this is why I am using this forum as a last ditch effort.

So i need your help ASAP.So yes i have bootcamp'ed my macbook to windows 7 34bit.
And i think i made a mistake during installing it.Well when given the partition, it was 4 partitions , i chose bootcamp partition, but unfortunately it cant be installed on it, so i tried to format the bootcamp partition, and it's ok, so i have done it.But the problem is, i couldn't get into the mac whenever i restart or shutdown and turn on back.
I had Parallels installed, but I ended up back with Bootcamp. After I uninstalled it I noticed under iStat Pro Widget there were two parallels network connections. I went to the System Prefs - Networks and deleted them, but every single time I restart my computer they pop back up! I tried locking the settings after I deleted and applied them but I can't figure it out! I do not want to have to format my whole HDD! Here is a screen shot so you know what I'm talking about:

My question is i want to restart the computer back to factory defauls as it still has old users info and userid. they did not give me any back up disk or anything to restore the machine with. This is my first mac computer and i bought it to sync with my ipad and use for entertainment. Right now it won't let me open itunes because i need to download quicktime 7.7. I feel like im lost and i just want to start from scratch.

I have deleted a file from my documents folder and even when I empty the recycle bin this file after a restart comes back. The recycle bin doesnt refuses to empty. It empties normaly.

Whenever I wanted to change my desktop background, it would change immediately no problem but once I shut down or restarted my mac, it would revert back to the original background. Somewhere I read that by deleting com.apple.desktop.plist this problem could be solved. I did that and bingo it solved the problem! But since I am a newbie i would like to know is it fine to do so and what (if any) effects it could have on my mac?

So with my iMac there was a little box thing called 'Everything Else'. There are two disks in it:
Mac OS X Install DVD
Applications Install DVD
Is this all I am supposed to get? I thought I was supposed to get iLife disks? What are they both for? And which one is the one I have to use when I install Windows via bootcamp?
I was thinking of buying adobe cs4 suit student edition (web premium) but I have two machines. An iMac and macbook. I can only presume that adobes terms and conditions say that you can only install it on one machine. but that is there to most probably stop people giving it to others to install. I am the only one thats going to ever use it. So my questions is can it be install more than once using the same serial key? if yes do you know how many times can you activate the serial key.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe automatic Flip4Mac updater will install Microsoft's SIlverLight browser plugin automatically unless the user does a custom install. It was even going to install it on my 10.6.1 machine although the MS web site claims that SilverLight is tested through 10.5. I have contacted the Flip4Mac support people since I believe this is Malware behavior.
Most Mac users will be unaware of what SilverLight is and how it will effect their machine. Nor will most experts think to check for/remove it when troubleshooting. If you wish to make your concerns known, contact their desktop support group, and include "Support Case 1-74223" in the subject line.
If I were to do a clean install of snow leopard, would I later be able to bring my applications over via time machine. That being said, I currently have Adobe CS4 Design Premium and Microsoft office 2008 and itunes. Would I have to unlicense the programs and deauthorize my account before the clean install to make sure that i wouldn't lose the licenses and the authorizations.

If I don't touch my running iMac (OS 10.5.7) for five minutes or so, it reverts from a running state to some kind of sleep state--desktop replaced by screen saver, all running programs shut down, document I'm working on (using NeoOffice) closes. Computer is brand-new, system preferences/energy saver settings are: both sliders set at "never," no boxes checked, all are off. Damn thing is doing it on its own. Is there anything else I can reset, or is this a gitch?

I tried it out on adressbook, but after a successful "upgrade" it told me I had possibly installed older software. What went wrong? Did I install an older version of addressbook, or did I install the same as Snow Leopard did? Or did nothing happen at all?

However, I find that when I customize the Safari (4.03) toolbar, it will remain in that form until I quit. But when I open Safari again, the customized toolbar appears for a few seconds, and then reverts to the default. Very frustrating, as I have to customize it each time I open it in order to use buttons that have vanished. Firefox (ew) is fine, by the way.

However, I noticed one night after ripping some of my CDs that they were going back to the default iTunes folder. I'm suspecting that this may be happening if I open iTunes before the HD mounts. Is this true? Is there a way to prevent iTunes from doing this? Or a prompt alerting me that it can't find the USB device and if it should revert to the default. Also, how can I easily move the music over to my USB HD. Can I just do Consolidate Library and not worry about losing anything?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI initially set up my MacBrook Pro Retina (late 2013 - Mavericks) with one of the default images for my user account and the same for iMessage.
I've changed me user account avatar to the image I want OK, but I've tried just about everything to permanently change the iMessage avatar - it just keeps defaulting to the original image (an eagle). The image i'm using is saved locally. I've tried all different file formats, including .tif (the same format as the system default images)I've even added the image I want into the HDD>User Library>User Pictures>Animal (same place as the system default images).
But, every time I change it, then restart iMessage - it's back to default. System reboot has the same effect, obviously.
Have a problem with an PowerBook 867 upon turning on it starts with a normal screen for a few seconds and reverts to a dark screen and continues to load as normal except for dark screen if I can find the curser I can change resolutions and the screen will return to normal for a second then revert, have tried everything but nothing works , have tried reseting (button under keyboard, removing battery holding down option and control with R P keys etc) but nothing fixes, I have noticed this has happened to others on this forum but I cannot seem to find the answer can anybody help?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 15 inch 2010 MBP. When I got it, I migrated all my info from my previous MB. About 4-5 months into using it I started having issues w/ Kernel Panics. I did upgrade the HDD and RAM but the Kernel Panics happened before all of that. I took it to the Apple store and they ran some test on the hardware and software and said they couldn't find anything. Their advice was to just do a clean install. I wanted to avoid doing a clean install on all costs. Anyhow, I said what the who last night and backed up important files and did the clean install,
I have to say that the computer feels much more stable now. I was having a lot of little issues w/ Snow Leopard prior to the clean install. Most of that probably comes w/ me playing around w/ settings a bit too much. Also, I'll admit, I do torrent some software. In my opinion, thats what caused the kernel panics. Only time will tell if I continue to get kernel panics even after a clean install, but I think I'm good to go. So, do you guys prefer doing clean installs or just migrating your data? When Lion comes out, will you clean install or migrate to it?
I've seeing a problem with Time Machine with one of my external drives. Here's my setup:MBP 15"OSX 10.7.4Work external drive - Seagate GoFlex, via USBHome external drive - Western Digital Green, via USB
I had been using both home and work drives as Time Machine backups, and things were working fine. I would have to re-designate the appropriate Time Machine backup drive when I changed locations, but everything was working.
The problem:When I attach the work drive and point Time Machine to the drive, it works. When I eject the work drive, the Time Machine prefs panel shows "Time Machine - work" in greyed out text as the target drive, reflecting that the drive is not available.When I attach the home drive and point Time Machine to the drive, it works. But when I eject the home drive, the Time Machine prefs panel shows "Macintosh HD" in normal text as the target drive. Worse, I think it actually attempts to back up to the internal drive, because at the next Time Machine backup interval, I get a "The identity of the backup disk has changed" error from Time Machine.
I've tried a full reset of Time Machine by deleting the prefs file. I've also tried verifying the home external disk.

Should I be concerned about this, and has this happened to anybody else?
