I printed boot camp instructions. I partitioned the disk with no problem, inserted windows 7 and it came up a black screen with blinking cursor. I cannot get out of it and if I restart, it says to insert bootable disk. I cannot get mac os to come up.

I download it from the App Store and install it via the installer.The computer restarts itself and finishes installing, then once it restarts again it boots back into OSX 10.7.4. No errors or problems, just never follows through on install once completed.

I tryed to install windows xp on my mac and my disk was too scratched so the install failed. So i held down the power button on my mac until it turned off. Big mistake. Now whenever it boot up, it says press any button to boot from cd. I tryed installing rEFit, it installs but doesn'ty boot into the boot loader.

I beleive all my data is still on because there is a lot of used disc space. I want to convert it back to HFS without the loss of data, as I have important information on the hard drive that I do not want to lose. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? I ask because SL is truly an "under the hood" update, and until developers take advantage of the improvements, we won't see significant performance improvements. As of right now, plenty of stuff is broken. Cyberduck FTP doesn't work for me. Logitech Control center for my external keyboard/mouse doesn't work. And NTFS-3G is broken because it consumes 30% of CPU unless I eject all NFTS partitions, including the bootcamp partition. I thought I would be fine, I don't have any hacks/customization on my MBP, but those important tools don't work for me yet, so I want to wait a few weeks before I use SL.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an intel mac (macbook) with a fresh (not upgraded) copy of Leo. Apparently this does matter, as Tiger would have been able to mount the disk with no problem so I suspect that ability remains in the computer when upgraded (only a suspicion). I have been trying for 3 days to get my Canon solutions disk (14.3) to mount in Leopard. When I insert it, it just spits back out after spinning up.
Canon support had no idea what to do, and apple wasn't giving me any help since it is a third party app, they simply sent me the direction of canon for a fix.
Thankfully I figured out a solution. This should work for all who have disks that will not mount and spit back out. As a last resort right before I pulled my hair out I decided to try and force the disk to mount by holding the shift key while inserting the Canon Solutions disk. IT WORKED!
Do not let go of that shift key until the disk is mounted completely and the installer icon is on the desktop. Once it is mounted you are good to go and it installs with no problem.
I hope this information can help some of you having this issue.
I want to downgrade back to Leopard and have a question. Does erasing the HD to do an install, also erase the Windoze partition? Or everything but that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am not using Time Machine as Genius Bar at the Apple store told me it was best not to (I was continually having errors and so GeniusBar erased my hard drive and reinstalled Lion). They said to then manually drag over documents onto my hard drive, avoiding the Applications, so no possible errors could be dragged back onto the clean hard drive.
But now I have Mail and none of my folders and previous accounts. Of course I can re-setup my accounts, but then they will just try to redownload all of the millions of emails I had before. None of the very organised folders I previously had, sent messages, etc, etc.

I wanted to play around with GIMP, so I downloaded it and it told me that I must have xQuartz installed. I installed it and it apparently damaged my OpenGL engine. Now when I open Photoshop psd files with 3D effects, I get the following dialog box:Â
I have to assume that it is xQuartz that did the dirty deed.Â
I Googled but could not find a way to delete it ad get back to X11 (and, hopefully, OpenGL). I could always do a restore from an older Time Machine back-up, I know, but I'd lose a lot. And I don't really remember when I installed it - last week sometime.Â

iphoto gave me an error that it didnt work with the current MAC OS (I have 10.6.8). I followed instructions to re-install iphoto from the back up application disk and now it say I can't open iphoto without a software update. I check and all the software is currently up to date.Â

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows with no problem. Now I need to install the drivers, aka the mac disc. There are 2 mac discs I had in my Macbook Pro package. I put in my first one. It was, surprisingly a blank CD. I put in my second one. It did show BOOTCAMP this time, but it only had the options 'Remote Install Mac OS X' and 'DVD or CD sharing'. I couldn't install them. What is wrong with this. I am certain that the package wasn't fake, since I have the Macbook Pro here, but why doesn't the install CDs work?
