Mac Mini :: Extra Memory Definitely Speeds Things Up

Jul 3, 2010

The extra memory just came for my new Mac Min i, and I can definitely say that it speeded things up. When I posted earlier about being disappointed. that was with 2 gb stock memory. I put in a total of 4 gb today. Turns out, now get this, if I had ordered the mini with 4 gb to start, it would only have cost $100 more from Apple. Getting it from OWC cost $120.00. Apple would have been cheaper on memory! Go figure. Anyway, 4 gb seems to be the sweet spot for general use like for me.

MacBook Pro :: VirtualBox Does Not Recognize The Newly Installed Extra Memory

May 4, 2012

I have installed 4GB of extra ram to my MBP 13" (late 2010) to increase the performance of virtual machines. Though the VirtualBox doesn't recognize the 8GB of ram when i try to create a new machine for Windows XP 32-bit or Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't tried it with other operating systems. I have also reinsalled the VirtualBox but it didn't work.

Intel Mac :: Remove Or Install Memory?

Mar 29, 2012

For an iMac 27" 3.06 GHZ (DDR3) late 2009 can I add a pair of 2x4GB RAM to the 2x2GB RAM that I already have installed (for a total of 12GB RAM)? They are matched pairs - I'm just not sure if each card has to be the same amount of RAM - in other words stick with 8GB or move up to 16GB.

Intel Mac :: How Much Will The Genius Bar Charge To Install Additional Memory To It

Apr 17, 2012

I want to upgrade to Lion OS, but I need another gig of memory installed. I have an older iMac with OS 10.6.8, and one memory tray is empty. I'd like to know how much the Apple Store/Genius Bar will charge me to install one of their 1 GB memory cards. So, in aggregate, the cost of the memory + the installation at the Apple Store). Is it cheaper to have an Apple-certified technician do the installation?

Mac Pro :: Will This RAM Work - Install Memory In Pairs

Nov 28, 2009

I wanted to add more RAM to my PowerMac G5 1.8GHz and I found two 256MB sticks lying around my house from my dead Windows XP computer. I looked up on Apples website that I needed DDR 400 RAM for my PowerMac, and the two sticks I found are DDR 333, which according to Apple are only for the 1.6GHz PowerMac G5. Will they still work in my 1.8GHz PowerMac? If they work, I know my system memory will be at 333MHz, which is fine cause I only browse the web and type documents on this old computer now. I just wanted to put the memory to use.

Also, I have a single 512MB DDR 400 RAM Stick I found as well. From what I read, I have to install memory in pairs. Is this true? Will I be able to also utilize this 512MB Stick? (It has no matching pair)

IMac :: Did Install Memory In The Best Slots

Apr 27, 2010

I have a 27" iMac and recently picked up the latest model MacBook. I also picked up a 4Gb (2x2) RAM. I placed the 4Gb in the MacBook and decided to place that 2GB from the MB in my iMac to boost it to 6GB.

Here is my question, did I place the RAM in the best slots, assuming there is such a thing as best slots. I remember from the old day of PC that there was a strict order for placement else I may not get the most out of the additional RAM. It does register as 6GB when I click on 'About This Mac'. Below is a diagram and screen shot to show exactly what I did.

An urban legend says that if a user replaces a 2GB RAM module with a 4GB RAM module in a Mid-2007 15-inch MacBook Pro, that it will result in a total of 6GB of RAM (if the other RAM slot already has a 2GB RAM module).
