I have one of these Macbooks that I want to pass on to the daughter of a friend for use in college. To try and extend its life and usefulness a little I was wondering if I could add more memory. I'm aware that the Apple tech specs state that 2GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 is the maximum supported, but since I have 2 x 2GB of that memory spare I was wondering if anyone here on the forums know different?

An urban legend says that if a user replaces a 2GB RAM module with a 4GB RAM module in a Mid-2007 15-inch MacBook Pro, that it will result in a total of 6GB of RAM (if the other RAM slot already has a 2GB RAM module).

As I wait for my Apple Extreme Base Station, I was wondering if it would make sense to create two different SSID networks. One Mixed b/g for 2.4GHz devices and another one solely for 5GHz. I know my ATV2 supports 802.11n in 5GHz. As I go down my list of devices in my house, I can't tell if my MacBook Pros support the 5GHz. Both MacBook Pros are Mid 2010 models.Â
The reason for creating two different networks is that the AEBS downgrades your network based on the lowest device (i.e. b/g would be forced on a n device if such device connects to your network).
macbook air only connects at 130 M/Bits on a 5Ghz wifi connection, all other devices including pre unibody Macbook connect at 300M/bits ?

At my work place we have a lot of repeaters and some are on 5ghz and some on 2.4ghz, On my pc I can manage the driver settings to only run on 5ghz and the result is a much faster connection with better perfomance than my macbook air.Â

I have a macBook pro, running Yosemite, and cannot connect to 5GHz on my dual band bt home hub. Keeps saying 'invalid password' even though it is correct. I have given the 2GHz and 5GHz separate names and passwords and can now connect to 2GHz without dropping al the time, but am frustrated re 5GHZ. Even when stood next to the router it will not connect or recognise password.

I'm encountering an issue with a new Macbook Air and would grateful for any insights. I have an Airport Extreme (latest model, 5th gen, A1408) based network (all updates applied). I have a new 2012 MacBook Air (11") that I noticed was suffering from VERY slow wifi speeds. After looking into it, I realized that if I used the configuration utility to separately name the 5GHz network and connect to wifi on the 2.4 Ghz network, the speed radically improved.Â
To illustrate, using speedtest.net, I saw download speeds of 35-38 Mb/s using the 2.4 Ghz network. This drops to 2-3 Mb/s when using the 5 Ghz network. The Macbook Air is showing an RSSI value of -56 when connected via 5 GHz and -51 when connected via 2.4 Ghz.Â
Other deivces in the home have normal connection speeds on the 5 GHz network, as does a previous generation, 2011 MacBook Air.A friend's also new, 2012Â 11" MacBook Air exhibits the same symptoms, so the issue is not specific to my unit.Â

I tried reading the manual but im a little confused. Mine came with the standard 2 x 1 gb that is installed on top and bottom card (1gb on top and 1 gb on bottom). I purchased 4 x 2gb cards and want to install it on top of the 2 x 1 gbs I currently have.
On the manual its telling me to install it in pairs but 1 is inserted on top and 1 is inserted on bottom...
i just bought 16gb of ram for my 2008 Mac Pro.
I have the original 2 x 1gb sticks + 4 x 4gb sticks now .
How do i install the memory to get the best result
I wanted to add more RAM to my PowerMac G5 1.8GHz and I found two 256MB sticks lying around my house from my dead Windows XP computer. I looked up on Apples website that I needed DDR 400 RAM for my PowerMac, and the two sticks I found are DDR 333, which according to Apple are only for the 1.6GHz PowerMac G5. Will they still work in my 1.8GHz PowerMac? If they work, I know my system memory will be at 333MHz, which is fine cause I only browse the web and type documents on this old computer now. I just wanted to put the memory to use.
Also, I have a single 512MB DDR 400 RAM Stick I found as well. From what I read, I have to install memory in pairs. Is this true? Will I be able to also utilize this 512MB Stick? (It has no matching pair)
I have a 27" iMac and recently picked up the latest model MacBook. I also picked up a 4Gb (2x2) RAM. I placed the 4Gb in the MacBook and decided to place that 2GB from the MB in my iMac to boost it to 6GB.
Here is my question, did I place the RAM in the best slots, assuming there is such a thing as best slots. I remember from the old day of PC that there was a strict order for placement else I may not get the most out of the additional RAM. It does register as 6GB when I click on 'About This Mac'. Below is a diagram and screen shot to show exactly what I did.
For an iMac 27" 3.06 GHZ (DDR3) late 2009 can I add a pair of 2x4GB RAM to the 2x2GB RAM that I already have installed (for a total of 12GB RAM)? They are matched pairs - I'm just not sure if each card has to be the same amount of RAM - in other words stick with 8GB or move up to 16GB.

I think I have an iMac G5 - flat screen, white covering. Right now I have OS X 10.5.8 & it's running rather slow. The processor is 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, Memory 512 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - tried today but says I don't have enough memory. How do I get more memory & what do I need to do it.
