I've upgraded my iMac 4,1 to a core 2 duo processor in order to install Lion although I still get a message from App Store saying that Lion cant be installed on my computer - I have all the basic system requirments - RAM - free space - latest version of Snow Leopard and processor ...

I have 20" iMac core duo 216GMZ w/ 1GB and want to upgrade memory, how much can I install? Have 2 512MB DIMM. Does the new RAM have to be same memory capacity for both DIMM? I wanted to upgrade from 10.6.8 to Lion and don't have enough memory which prompted the inquiriy. The Lion installer said I need to have min 4GB. How much memory in excess of 4GB is advisable for Lion to be a smooth running OS.

I would like to upgrade the memory on my mac pro to 8gb (4 x 2gb) plus the original 2gb (2 x 1gb) that comes standard for a total of 10gb. I have looked on [URL] and the prices range from $198.99 to $799.99 for 8gb (4 x 2gb) kits. The Omni Technologies Optival is mighty tempting at $198.99 and I see that OWC has 8gb for $269. What do you recommend? Is Optival any good? The reason I an adding 8gb is for multi-tasking video/audio etc.

My one week old iMac 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5. first started problems by not goping to sleep even when I forced it.
I shut it down using the shut off button and unplugging it from power for more than 5 munites.
I turned it back on, it does the usual startup chime and then gray screen. I have restarted twice from the shot off button and still getting the same result.

For an iMac 27" 3.06 GHZ (DDR3) late 2009 can I add a pair of 2x4GB RAM to the 2x2GB RAM that I already have installed (for a total of 12GB RAM)? They are matched pairs - I'm just not sure if each card has to be the same amount of RAM - in other words stick with 8GB or move up to 16GB.

How do I install memory in my mac osx

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I want to upgrade to Lion OS, but I need another gig of memory installed. I have an older iMac with OS 10.6.8, and one memory tray is empty. I'd like to know how much the Apple Store/Genius Bar will charge me to install one of their 1 GB memory cards. So, in aggregate, the cost of the memory + the installation at the Apple Store). Is it cheaper to have an Apple-certified technician do the installation?

The ivy bridge processors are coming out soon (or may already be out). I have heard that macbook pro 13" models might be able to use the new processers due to their lower energy useage. I presume that I will be able to take my mac to an apple store and have it installed. Is this information true?

I noticed on the Apple refurb site that Mac Pros from 2010 have either 4 or 8 memory slots. Is there an easy way to tell how many memory slots a computer will have? From what I have seen it looks like the quad core machines will have 4 slots while the eight core machines have eight slots. How many memory slots are in the hex core machines?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a refurbished Mac Pro (8 core) from the apple store and added 4 Gb (2x2Gb) to the 2 Gb tht came installed. I am having a peculiar problem in seeing all four of the memory modules. The only setup that shows all 6 Gb of the memory is to have the modules in the following format: a) 2Gb modules on Riser A, positions 1 and 3 plus 1 Gb mods on Riser B positions 1 and 3; b) 2 Gb and 1 Gb mods on Riser A positions 1 and 3, respectively, and the same on Riser B.
When I put them in the logically (and aesthetically better) intuitive configuration of paired mods in positions 1 and 2 of each Riser, I can only see the modules that are in position 1 of each riser. Is this something expected in the new MacPros? Is there a disadvantage of keeping this configuration? I note that a memory installation video on line stated that the way memory is installed in the early 2008 Mac Pros has changed. Does this issue result from that change?
my 2.66 ghz Quad Core Mac Pro has 6 gig's of memory. I always have several application's open at the same time. I've got Aperture 2 which is using 632 mb of memory but sometimes it goes over 1gb. Iphoto is using 300 mb, I've got firefox open, the New York Times Reader, Rhapsody's online player, Apple's email client, Itunes, etc. Do you guys think that 6gig's of memory is enough? Is more memory recommended? Would that 2 gig's of memory make a difference?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI plan on buying third party ram for the new Mac Pro. I want to have a minimum of 12GB of ram, possibly up to 24GB. How would you configure it, and is the sweet spot 12, 18, or 24, and not 16?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone try to put more than 4gb of memory on a dual core MacBook? Do you have to have the same amount of memory in each slot? I've only got 2gb and am running Lion, which slows everything down.I got a 2gb and 4 gb from OWC but the folks at the Genius Bar tell me that the MacBook ishould have no more than 4gb and that the memory slots need to be equal.

As you can see in the attachment, the apps I'm running aren't that big of a deal for the most part. This is a 2007 version 8-core Mac Pro, 8 GB RAM. I'm curious what happens to make the apps open bog down the computer like this? Just leaving everything running for days at a time?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout 6 months ago my Core Duo MBP shut off and then rebooted with loud post beeps. Everything is fine since except that it can only run with 1 stick of RAM in the lower slot, with both or just the upper filled it doesn't boot and the optical drive sounds like it cant start. My 1 year warranty is out and missed the 2 year upgrade. Also does anyone know if this model can run 1x 2GB of memory? I used to have 1.5GB (came with 1x 512MB and added 1GB) and now been running with just 1 gig and missing the performance albeit a positive is Snow Leopard is a lot more snappy on 1 gig than Leopard .
View 4 Replies View Relatedfirst, I didnt know if this thread should be here or in Buying Tips, but anyway. My doubt is about the brand new 27 iMacs processor, If I should buy a more GHz one, but with only two cores, or should I buy little bit less GHz one, but with four cores.
It really worth pay $200 more? It really worth the four cores? My main needs are run CS4, some Final Cut, maybe Logic Studio, and switch between different OS's (OS X, Windows, and Linux). I think even a 21.5 model would be more than enough, but I just wonder If Quad Core gonna give me more power (I hope so).
Buying a new iMac next month and was wondering if I can just order it with 4gb ram and add two 8gb sticks from OWC to obtain 12gb total?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy lab wants to get a desktop PC that can run Windows XP 64 bit edition and take advantage of as much RAM and processing power as possible for 3-D modeling. I don't have too much experience with WinXP 64 bit edition, but I am wondering if any mac pro owners out there that have an updated box w/8 cores and lots of RAM do have WinXP 64 bit edition can answer my questions:
1. What is the bootcamp experience like (with regard to drivers, etc)?
2. Can WinXP take advantage of all 8 processors?
3. Can WinXP take advantage of up to 16GB of RAM?
I've got a 1.83 GHz 17" iMac and for all intents and purposes it fits the "Intel Processor" requirement for Snow Leopard but it isn't a true '64 bit' processor(?) like the later Intel chips... anyone installed the new OS on a similar machine and can report any major differences in speed (or not)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an 8 Core Mac Pro running 10.5.6. I have four internal drives and I want to use one of those for windows vista business 64bit. I also have a esata card as well as an atto ul5d scsi card. I followed the bootcamp instructions, created one windows partition one of my empty drives, follow boot camp instructions and put in the windows vista business 64bit disc, then clicked "start installation". After the computer reboots, some type comes up says it's scanning the atto ul5d and can't find the bios driver, then the screen goes black for a few moments, then "not bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key". But I have the windows vista business 64bit disc in the dvd drive and pressing any of the keys do nothing, almost like it doesn't recognize the keyboard? I also tried to do a boot camp partition on one of the drives that has my apple OS, and till same result. Besides the 4 internal drives I also have a third part esata card as well as a sci card, and the dvd drive that is in hear is not the stock dvd drive.
