MacBook Pro :: Remove Or Install Memory?
Jun 18, 2012
An urban legend says that if a user replaces a 2GB RAM module with a 4GB RAM module in a Mid-2007 15-inch MacBook Pro, that it will result in a total of 6GB of RAM (if the other RAM slot already has a 2GB RAM module).

For an iMac 27" 3.06 GHZ (DDR3) late 2009 can I add a pair of 2x4GB RAM to the 2x2GB RAM that I already have installed (for a total of 12GB RAM)? They are matched pairs - I'm just not sure if each card has to be the same amount of RAM - in other words stick with 8GB or move up to 16GB.

My MBP was recently squished in a motorcycle accident and its hard drive and superdrive were destroyed. Is it possible to buy a new hard drive, put it in an external USB 2.0 enclosure, then install OS X on it using the discs that came with my destroyed MBP in a different Mac, then put the hard drive into the squished computer and have it use that hard drive as its startup disk? The motherboard on the squished computer is fine, I just can't install OS X on it because it has a broken superdrive.

I have a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo 20 inch iMac (early 2006). I have purchased additional memory that I want to install but when I try to remove the cross point screws holding the cover plate over the memory compartment they will not budge. I am afraid to squirt them with WD40 since I fear overspray would probably go into the memory compartment. I am also afraid to "bump" the screws by tapping the end of the screwdriver with a hamer since the shock might damage the drives. Have anyone of you had this difficulty? If so how did you solve it.

I removed battery without turning off my mac book pro. Now it will not boot up or remove cd. I tried restarting with eject, spacebar, command e, option, trackpad, and f12 depressed, individually each time to no avail. I installed a 2 gb. ram kit and loaded OSX Snow Leopard after removing battery.

I tried reading the manual but im a little confused. Mine came with the standard 2 x 1 gb that is installed on top and bottom card (1gb on top and 1 gb on bottom). I purchased 4 x 2gb cards and want to install it on top of the 2 x 1 gbs I currently have.
On the manual its telling me to install it in pairs but 1 is inserted on top and 1 is inserted on bottom...

I wanted to add more RAM to my PowerMac G5 1.8GHz and I found two 256MB sticks lying around my house from my dead Windows XP computer. I looked up on Apples website that I needed DDR 400 RAM for my PowerMac, and the two sticks I found are DDR 333, which according to Apple are only for the 1.6GHz PowerMac G5. Will they still work in my 1.8GHz PowerMac? If they work, I know my system memory will be at 333MHz, which is fine cause I only browse the web and type documents on this old computer now. I just wanted to put the memory to use.
Also, I have a single 512MB DDR 400 RAM Stick I found as well. From what I read, I have to install memory in pairs. Is this true? Will I be able to also utilize this 512MB Stick? (It has no matching pair)

I have a 27" iMac and recently picked up the latest model MacBook. I also picked up a 4Gb (2x2) RAM. I placed the 4Gb in the MacBook and decided to place that 2GB from the MB in my iMac to boost it to 6GB.
Here is my question, did I place the RAM in the best slots, assuming there is such a thing as best slots. I remember from the old day of PC that there was a strict order for placement else I may not get the most out of the additional RAM. It does register as 6GB when I click on 'About This Mac'. Below is a diagram and screen shot to show exactly what I did.
