Mac Pro :: Will This RAM Work - Install Memory In Pairs
Nov 28, 2009
I wanted to add more RAM to my PowerMac G5 1.8GHz and I found two 256MB sticks lying around my house from my dead Windows XP computer. I looked up on Apples website that I needed DDR 400 RAM for my PowerMac, and the two sticks I found are DDR 333, which according to Apple are only for the 1.6GHz PowerMac G5. Will they still work in my 1.8GHz PowerMac? If they work, I know my system memory will be at 333MHz, which is fine cause I only browse the web and type documents on this old computer now. I just wanted to put the memory to use.
Also, I have a single 512MB DDR 400 RAM Stick I found as well. From what I read, I have to install memory in pairs. Is this true? Will I be able to also utilize this 512MB Stick? (It has no matching pair)
I just bought the base model Mac Mini yesterday, and I am going to tear it open today to put in a bigger hard drive and more RAM. My question is...since I don't need the entire 4GB of RAM, I am happy with 3GB. The system has one 1GB chip in there already, so can I simply just pop in a second 2GB chip for a total of 3GB? I wasn't sure if they had to be installed in pairs or not. Is there any downside besides obviously the memory not being under Apple's warranty?
I'm looking at the RAM configs on the new 27. I'm getting 8GB,and 4x2GB is alot cheaper. Is this because a) Cheaper individual parts b) not matched pairs?
If there is no performance difference, then I'm happy to get the 4x2GB. I'd only be upgrading to 16GB and thats a long way away.
Also, just being lazy, will any 3.5" HDD fit into the iMac? I was thinking of getting a different HD and replacing it myself. Shame there is no way of having two HDD's in there.
I have had my i7 MacBook Pro for about a day now and last night I went to plug in headphones but the computer never recognized them and continued to play through the external speakers. Called Apple care and they said to bring it to the Apple store so I did and of course it worked properly for the genius. So great it works, brought it home and once again the jack won't recognize the headphones. Tried multiple pairs and neither of them will play.
I tried reading the manual but im a little confused. Mine came with the standard 2 x 1 gb that is installed on top and bottom card (1gb on top and 1 gb on bottom). I purchased 4 x 2gb cards and want to install it on top of the 2 x 1 gbs I currently have.
On the manual its telling me to install it in pairs but 1 is inserted on top and 1 is inserted on bottom...
I got tiger install discs for my emac but I cant get it to run the install. I tried putting the disc in and clicking the restart button on the screen that says "Welcome to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger", but when I click it it just restarts my computer and does nothing. I then tried the alternate install it did the same thing it did nothing but restarted my eMac. I then tried restarting my computer while holding c key nothing once again. Then I tried holding down apple, option, f , and o keys and then typed in cd boot and also tried cdrom boot nether of them worked so i restarted and tried dvd boot/dvdrom boot nothing worked on all the occasion i got a grey screen with a circle with a line through it. What do I need to do to get these install discs to work?
I have a 27" iMac and recently picked up the latest model MacBook. I also picked up a 4Gb (2x2) RAM. I placed the 4Gb in the MacBook and decided to place that 2GB from the MB in my iMac to boost it to 6GB.
Here is my question, did I place the RAM in the best slots, assuming there is such a thing as best slots. I remember from the old day of PC that there was a strict order for placement else I may not get the most out of the additional RAM. It does register as 6GB when I click on 'About This Mac'. Below is a diagram and screen shot to show exactly what I did.
I bought 2 GB memory cards to a total of 4GB to upgrade my current memory cards of 1 GB each.I installed and restarted and it showed that one memory card is in use and recognized and the other one remained empty.I re inserted to make sure it connects and ran it again and again it s empty.

For an iMac 27" 3.06 GHZ (DDR3) late 2009 can I add a pair of 2x4GB RAM to the 2x2GB RAM that I already have installed (for a total of 12GB RAM)? They are matched pairs - I'm just not sure if each card has to be the same amount of RAM - in other words stick with 8GB or move up to 16GB.
I currently have 2gig of memory on my macbook pro laptop. Looking to expand to as much memory as possible for my laptop. From what I can tell the maximum that I can expand to safely is 8 gig.
Just wondering is it possible to upgrade the 27" imac mid 2011 graphics card from 6970 to the 6990? If not is it possible to send it to apple techs to have this done as a paid service?
Is the table for the maximum amount of memory count two of the modules or only one? For example, I have the first MacBook. Can I upgrade to a total of 2 GB of RAM or two 2 GB modules?
An urban legend says that if a user replaces a 2GB RAM module with a 4GB RAM module in a Mid-2007 15-inch MacBook Pro, that it will result in a total of 6GB of RAM (if the other RAM slot already has a 2GB RAM module).

When trying to update FCPX to 10.1.3 a message pops up saying "Not Enough Memory Installed. Atleast 4 GB of memory required" (or something along those lines), how can I 'install' memory to update FCPX?Â
I think I have an iMac G5 - flat screen, white covering. Right now I have OS X 10.5.8 & it's running rather slow. The processor is 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, Memory 512 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - tried today but says I don't have enough memory. How do I get more memory & what do I need to do it.
I have two 512mb 667MHz DDR2 DIMMS from an old first generation Intel iMac. Would one of these DIMMS work in the Aluminum iMac running a single 1GB 800MHz DDR2 DIMM? Common sense tells me "No" and that this combination could cause Kernal Panics, etc with different speeds of RAM installed. However, I thought it was worth asking since I have these two DIMMS sitting here doing nothing and my mate could use the extra memory for free.
I want to upgrade to Lion OS, but I need another gig of memory installed. I have an older iMac with OS 10.6.8, and one memory tray is empty. I'd like to know how much the Apple Store/Genius Bar will charge me to install one of their 1 GB memory cards. So, in aggregate, the cost of the memory + the installation at the Apple Store). Is it cheaper to have an Apple-certified technician do the installation?
I am trying to install Lion and i continue to receive a message in the app store that says, your request could not be completed, lion requires 2 GB of memory. I have more than 50 GB available.
Anyone knows if the install cds shipped with the macbook pro C2D are able to install OSX on a PPC mac. Macbook pro install CD to install tiger on a G4 Powerbook?
