Can i use My Old iMac as a extra monitor. My Old iMac from early 2008 has a broken graphic card nvidia 8800 gs. When I start it up I hear the bong and see the symbol spinning then the screen goes black from right to left the computer is running but I can't use it. I assume it's the graphic card. Can I use this iMac as an extra monitor to my other iMac.?

I currently have one 19" Samsung monitor connected to my iMac via the Mini-DVI. I am looking to get another monitor hooked up, but of course there aren't any more video ports. Are there any alternatives? to have two monitors connected to my iMac? I have heard of the DualHead2Go product, and possibly connecting via USB? Any info on the above and if there are any other methods.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI run a small business off an Early 2008 MacPro (8 core). I mainly do PCB CAD work, and find that it would be useful to have a second monitor. I'm considering a Dell 24" or 27" model. I run a 4870 which has a DVI and a display port. I'm also considering another computer as a back up, as I had a video card failure in the MacPro that left me unable to work for a week until a new card arrived. My question is this: do I buy another old Mac Pro as a back up machine and get the extra monitor too or just buy a 21" or 27" new Imac and use it as the primary system with an extra monitor, leaving the 2008 MacPro as the reserve machine. The software I run is via parallels and will run on a low spec PC. But I do not want a windows machine. What do you think?

He likes photography, so at least moderate color accuracy would be nice (video performance is completely irrelevant), but is secondary, since if he can't see it it doesn't much matter how good the color is. Not ridiculously expensive, also nice.
I can, of course, go sort monitors at Newegg by brightness and pick the highest one, but if some of the online tests are to be believed, the specced brightness isn't necessarily accurate, and that doesn't tell the story if it looks like complete crap otherwise.
On paper the HannsG HG-281DPB is ridiculous in brightness and size, but it's basically a TV (HDMI-only); I like ViewSonic and Samsung, but on paper most of their screens aren't notably bright.
I want to make a contact group email more interesting can I get any extra templates to add to the existing ones ?

As a new Mac user and as the result of my machinations in the iMac Lion OS, I managed to wind up with an extra PC showing in the Shared section of the Finder Sidebar. I show my wife's PC and Time Capsule but I have an extra PC named Gerry581e of which I have no idea. I would like to know how to delete it from the list.

I have an iMac Intel ( 2008 ) and a problem came up so I figured if anybody knew anything about this as we don't have the biggest support in Greece to be honest , to help me.I pushed the power button but it gets stuck on the boot screen after the "bong" sound but it shows a second apple logo next to the 'original' one but it is broken as extra pixels.

I recently bought a new iMac. The old iMac I have is a 2007 version with a Mini DVI port out. I hate to just dicard the old iMac at this point. Is there any way I can use it as an extra monitor? Could i come out of my new one via Thunderbolt to Mini DVI? Even if is available, would the old iMac act like a monitor?

I just bought a LG IPS 226v-PN monitor and am using a mini-dsiplayport to HDMI adapter to connect. The monitor was automatically found and I can see and use it as a dual monitor but I am seen a snow like effect on the screen with pixel randomly activating (looks like snow). The other problem is the screen keeps turning off and on.I have switched it to both NTSC and PAL on the iMac.

How to use the iMac 21,5" (the first one with Thunderbold) as an external monitor for the pc?

At present my computer is an old PPC eMac with OS X 10.4.11. I want to buy an up-to-date 21" iMac. (I can't afford either the cost or the space for a 27" one.) But I have a mass of software and of files (a host of articles, etc., in that old warhorse, AppleWorks, for instance, and the scores of my musical compositions in an old version of Finale) which, for reasons it would be tedious to go into here, I cannot update so that they would work in the iMac.
If I buy the iMac, I want, for reasons of space, to get rid of my present eMac. But I have the offer of an old PPC Mac Mini with the same OS as my present eMac, to which I could transfer the contents of my present eMac hard disk. If I were to do that, I would want to use the new iMac as a monitor for the Mini. On the face of it, this cannot be achieved with the 21" iMac (only with the 27" iMac).
Is there any software or other adaptor-device that would permit this? I have looked at the EyeTV website, and it looks to me as if that is not what I would need.
I have an iMac 27-late 2009 (YD03003M5PE) I'm considering buying a macbook air for business travel, but when I'm home would like to use it through my monitor and keyboard. what's the best way to do that? should i connect it directly as a monitor? / keyboard? (hardware connection) can this be done through the video port? alternatively, should i use a remote screen/monitor access of some sort? (software connection)

I would like to find a non-working 21.5" iMac, and use it as a second monitor to my existing 21.5"er.
Of course, the monitor portion would need to be working.
I would like the second monitor to match the iMac. I can't find a 3rd party mfg'er that makes a monitor that matches close enough.
