I have once filled the addressbook. That was wrong. Want to start over again (with MS Outlook contacts- vcf) but do get duplicates. It seems as the addressbook is not completely empty. How do I get it completely empty.
It's a hassle anyway to get Outlook contacts (2003 version) into the iMac addressbook.

My iMac 24 has been acting just a tiny bit sluggish of late, seeing the pinwheel a few times. All the reading I've gone through suggests two possibilities; overloaded cache or a HDD that's starting to go south. Hmmmm. OK, so exactly how do I get to the so-called "Library Caches" and which folders do I delete. Next, is there a good diagnostic tool that will give me layman's language results that a consumer/user can understand? And lastly, if the HDD is going south and my iMac is long past warranty... can I; (A) replace the HDD myself, and (B) can I upgrade the drive size (currently 500G) to a 1TB drive? My machine currently has 4 Gigs of RAM and I guess that's all it can handle right? Wish I could upgrade that!
I did clear my safari cache and saw a decent pickup in speed.
I would like to clean out my HD and reinstall OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, but I do not have the original install discs. My plan is to buy the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard universal retail disc from an outside dealer (going for $200+) and also buy additional memory (2GB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200)) to help with space.
I am worried about not being able to run QuarkXPress 6.0, Extensis Suitcase X1, Microsoft Office 2008, and Adobe Creative Suite CS3 once I reformat. I do not want to upgrade to Lion because most of these programs do not work or in the case of CS3 very glitchy on Lion.
is this the best route to go? I do not want to buy leopard and the ram, until I know for sure this is the right way of proceeding.

Recently searched the history of my iMac to see just what was loaded into the system. What I found was that there were 3 different WI-FI networks on my iMac and I would like to know just what they belong to? One is called "Orangecat", another is "wildchild" and the last one is also "wildchild-guest". What these accounts are associated with and if they are part of the internal configuration of my iMac?

is attached to word documents. a friend rid it from my husbands resume which he was trying to upload to monster. there doesn't seem to be a program to get rid of it on a mac. so everythng i open just gets infected on my 3 machines. other than taking it to a pc and running the program my friend had, is there a (program) that will allow me to get rid of it? i know it doesn't affect my machine but pcs will not take these docs. I don't work in word, just use it to open client documents and copy into quark.

Here goes. I just bought a new i5 iMac and was wondering if i should buy virus protection software?
I've just ordered my first Mac (ever) 27" i7 8Gb 2Tb. I figured if I'm in... I'm going all the way in, so now I have to wait 10 days (build time I'm told). I have owned a PC since about '78 or '79ish ? when I bought my first TRS80 (for all the old timers out there) and I think I'm pretty good with em, however apples, I haven't a clue .... Anyway my 1st question to the brains trust out there is do I need internet security/antivirus software on my new iMac.
