Intel Mac :: Connecting To Certain HTTPS (Secure) Sites?

May 4, 2012

I can't get into *certain* secure sites.  I first noticed the problem a few weeks ago when I couldn't check out at Amazon, the log-in page would not come up.  Neither would any page on Amazon that is secure, i.e., requiring the entry of my password. The problem has grown.  Most recently I couldn't get into Bank Of America, now I can't get into gmail.  The real kick is I couldn't get in HERE!!  (But I *can* get into my bank account, I *can* get into Chase and I *can* get into Citi, no problems.) The problem is occurring on both Safari and Firefox, so it's apparently not a browser issue. My ISP is Hughesnet, the satellite ISP. Now, how did I get in here and why do I suspect Hughes?  Because I have a back-up dial-up ISP, Juno, and I got in here using Juno and have gotten into all of the other sites I just mentioned using Juno.  Only thing is, Juno takes eons.  I mean EONS. As I said, I suspect Hughes.  But, I thought I'd come here and seek help from you guys, I've received excellent and much appreciated help here in the past.  I'm hoping that I'm wrong, that it's not a Hughes problem, and that someone here can suggest a way I can correct w/e is wrong with my settings (if, in fact, it is my settings).

Safari :: Can Browse Secured Sites (HTTPs) But Not Regular Ones (HTTP)

Apr 24, 2012

It seems I am able to browse secured websites and pick up my email messages using Mail and I can chat using Messages, but I cannot browse to unsecured sites on this network. I have been given a Web Proxy address, but it doesn't seem to be having any effect.

Applications :: Safari Hangs On Secure Sites?

Jun 8, 2010

When I start up Safari and load my home page (google.com/ig) it takes way to long (>30 seconds). After doing some testing I found out that Safari seems to be hanging when I make secure requests. I found that out by removing the Gmail and Google Calendar gadgets from my home page and it loaded right away. But then when I go to gmail.com and log in I have to wait again. Also at that time I can't use any other tabs, they all just sit there and spin like they are loading.

Has anyone else had this issue? I know its a Safari issue because Chrome it just fine. Any ideas?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Safari, Secure Connection To Sites And Parental Control?

Mar 22, 2012

I'm setting up Safari for a child, and have Parental Controls enabled and am customizing the list of sites that can be visited. I'm allowing [URL] and have multiple http and https Netflix URL's allowed. However, when I test accessing this site, Safari gives an error stating that it cannot establish a "secure connection". The same computer, with a different account, can access the same URL without the error. My assumption would be that since I specifically allowed several [URL] URL's, that this would work just fine. By granting specific access, you are bypassing Parental Controls in a controlled way.

Applications :: Accessing Http Sites On Safari And Firefox - Can't Establish Secure Connection?

May 23, 2009

I have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.

It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]

I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]

OS X :: Internet Not Connecting But Can Ping Sites

Dec 1, 2009

My MBP is connecting to what ever internet source I need (i.e. wireless or wired) and is getting assigned a IP address. But when I open up firefox/safari every web site says "unable to connect" and then when I go into my wireless utility I can ping say google in 40 ms with 0% packet loss... I don't get this. I have tried resetting my p ram, I have tried deleting all the internet connections and starting fresh... hard wiring to my internet source.

OS X :: Can't Get To HTTP But Can Get To HTTPS

Sep 30, 2009

I have a client who has a MacBook Pro and yesterday the computer wasn't able to get to http sites. Only https. He has VMWare Fusion installed also and even the windows side in IE does the same thing.

The weird thing is he can ping [URL] and it pings (so we know it's not DNS), he can "[URL] 80" and it connects to the webserver and shows the HTML code (so we know it's not something with port 80). We checked the proxies setting in Network and there is nothing checked. Compared all the settings from another MacBook that is working and all settings are the same.

What if I drag those files to trash and do a SECURE EMPTY TRASH - much quicker as I am not writing 750 GB of zeroes but is it as secure?

OS X :: Loading HTTPS Pages With Safari And Chrome?

Jul 1, 2010

My Safari and Chrome refuse to load https pages, as for example, on Apple servers as [URL]

If I try it using Camino or Firefox, it works, but Safari and Chrome (that is webkit (= safari) based don't.

If I just type [URL] on the URL box, Safari and Chrome tell me that the server cannot be reached. The problem is that this https page is used during checkout, so I am not able to finish any order. I have even tried firefox on Ubuntu, inside VirtualBox and it works on the same machine. The problem is just Safari/Chrome.

The problem is not just with Apple. The same problem occurs with some other stores and sites using https around the web.

Software :: Can No Longer Access Https Websites?

Nov 19, 2008

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to computers so I need some help. As of 11 Nov, I was no longer able to access any secure sites (email, banks etc) on either Safari or Firefox, both of which were the most recent editions. I've not had any problems before. I was a bit lost and I've been looking at all kinds of websites to try and sort out the problem, but to no avail. I was advised to look at disk utility and it said I needed to repair the HD by re-installing using the OS X disk. It's made no difference. I've tried checking the Secure Web Proxy box in System Preferences, but it wont hold.

Intel Mac :: Can't Browse To Certain Web Sites

Jun 27, 2012

I cannot browse by name to certain web sites like google, yahoo. I can browse to others. This is true of both Safari and Firefox. I can, however put the ip address I get by doing a ping on the same machine into the browser and go straight there. By virtue of it being both browsers, I have ruled out the application. By virtue of being able to ping, I have ruled out dns name resolution. It's just the browser that can't get there.

OS X :: Guest Account On Leopard / Unable To Access HTTPS Websites

Jul 21, 2010

I really like the guest account feature that Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) provides.I just got my first Macbook Pro... about a year old running Leopard... part of a client deal (you Mac people just got another application developer interested ).

Anyway.. I'm wondering... I"m getting rid of a few of my other computers on craigslist in the coming weeks and my girlfriend always wants to check her facebook. I'd prefer not to have her accidentally close something important so I setup & configured the guest account. I installed the server admin tools to fully customize the dock/etc.

Two questions however:

1: Thus far the guest account cannot access HTTPS (secure sites) websites. Not in Safari or Google Chrome. Is this an option somewhere? Something I'm missing? I've tried googling for about 30 minutes and have come up blank.

2: Without overwriting the default profile setup (incase I ever want to create new profiles)... is there a way to set a few default things for the Guest user? FOr instance... I know it wipes everything on close... I want it to remember that Google Chrome & Safari have run before (annoying that it asks "do you want this to be the default browser?.. or running the initial safari video).

Feel free to get as technical as you want... as I said I'm a seasoned linux & windows developer getting into the Mac world .

Intel Mac :: Why Is OpenDNS Blocking Sites In Safari

May 11, 2012

I upgraded Safari last night through Software Update.

This morning I tried to go to one of my regular sites and OpenDNS blocks me from it.

I don't use OpenDNS. I did a couple of years ago when I was having speed issues with Safari. It didn't help so I dropped it. Turned out that was a modem problem that couldn't handle DNS prefetching. So why is it back? Why is it blocking me? And how do I stop it?

Intel Mac :: Using A Ftp Server To Publish IWeb Sites

Jul 2, 2012

Now that I can no longer publish my iWeb sites via Mobile Me, I have tried to use the ftp server that I pay for through a site hosting service for my business (sitemason). Unfortunately, there is some "redirect" that I cannot find and it creates an index that makes the iWeb pages become my "Home" page. I don't need to override my existing website, I only want the iWeb pages to open when the links to them are accessed. Is this a simple issue or should i just pay some service to publish my iWeb content and keep it nested within my old site?
