View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an external drive to store all my movies since I have no room on my iMac. I'd also like to watch my movies on other computers and I was wondering if there's a movie player that can be installed on the external drive to watch some movies like (.mkv) and so on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel IMAC, which is now out of warranty as I have had it for 16 months (and I was dumb enough not to get AppleCare). A few days back, my computer would not startup and everytime I hit the power button, I would hear some spinning noise but no chime from the iMAC. Yesterday, I tried it again and this time I heard the chime but the monitor did not start. I was then able to SSH into the MAC and see that it is indeed connected to the network and booted up, but the screen is still dead. Any ideas what I should do before the painful trip to the apple store ?

(hardware connection) can this be done through the video port? alternatively, should i use a remote screen/monitor access of some sort? (software connection)

I have an iMac 5K connected to a second monitor (HP ZR2740W) via mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. In Displays prefs, I can only select resolutions of Best for Display or Scaled-1280x720 (which doesn't change anything.) I'd like to be able to change to a higher resolution.

So My name is Lindsey and I have been an avid apple supporter. However in the last two weeks I've come extremely close to selling everything apple I own and going back to windows. I purchased a refurbished Intel Imac through the apple store about 4 months ago. Awesome computer, everything worked great. Well I recently decided to add an additional monitor so of course I started browsing the forums and did my due diligence. I read that there were some compatibility issues with some of the older imacs and the apple 24 in led display so naturally I called my nearest apple store to find out if I could use this display.
The sales associate listened as I explained that I had a 2008 intel Imac and assured my the display would work without an adapter. Of course you guys know this is totally wrong but I was unaware of this fact at the time. SO I drove a 6 hour round trip to Dallas and paid 970 in cash for my new monitory. Get it home and realize that something is obv wrong. I call the store back and the clerk tells me I need an adapter that can be bought at Best Buy. I drive 45 min to best buy. They are sold out. Next day I drive an hour and a half to the next closest Best Buy. They dont have it either..............................
I have a blurry spot in the middle of my imac screen. It is the shape of a kidney bean.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

Last week i stayed at a hotel in Birmingham (UK) and in each of the rooms they had iMacs.
You could watch TV or use it as a regular Mac.
When you turned it on, there was a choice: TV or Computer.
How can I do this at home?

I was surprised one day to find an inch of white line running from top to bottom on my screen. Then after a week it expanded to two inches white line, then suddenly it turned all black and I can't see two inches of my screen from the right edge. I was reading some forums and found out that I can use a dell monitor as a secondary monitor, but is it possible to use the dell monitor as the primary monitor in case the black line will spread throughout the entire iMac screen? so the iMac would serve as a stand alone processor like a regular desktop?

I'm looking for a good setup on my iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 Ghz, 1 GB memory) to watch live TV. I was thinking of getting a TV for my home office, but I really don't have a lot of room, so I'd like to look at using my Mac. I don't need to have a recorder, but it could come in handy, especially if I were able to transfer them to my iPhone. I haven't done a lot of research.

Can I play a dvd on my iMac to watch on my wifi tv? Can built in Airport send dvd to tv? I actually have an external router connected now, and can stream Netflix on my tv, but not everything is offered streaming. Also, we own some dvds that we'd like to watch. My dvd player is broken and I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to. I also have an old (1st gen) mac mini that's just sitting in a closet- could that be used as a dvd player?
