I recently bought a new iMac. The old iMac I have is a 2007 version with a Mini DVI port out. I hate to just dicard the old iMac at this point. Is there any way I can use it as an extra monitor? Could i come out of my new one via Thunderbolt to Mini DVI? Even if is available, would the old iMac act like a monitor?
2008 iMac, OS 10.6.8. Bought a 2004 Dell monitor, hoping to hook it up to watch internet tv (Hulu) on while I do work on main monitor. Went from on the Dell to the iMac's mini-dv port.Â
I need to know how to calibrate my monitor so that I know what my photographs are going to look like before they get printed. Either that or would it be better to buy a third party calibrator, like X-rite?
I found an adapter the Atlona AT-HD620. They say IT WILL work with thunderbolt iMac but not thunderbolt display. I don't know if it would work as I tried the Belkin av360 and it didn't work.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I just bought a LG IPS 226v-PN monitor and am using a mini-dsiplayport to HDMI adapter to connect. The monitor was automatically found and I can see and use it as a dual monitor but I am seen a snow like effect on the screen with pixel randomly activating (looks like snow). The other problem is the screen keeps turning off and on.I have switched it to both NTSC and PAL on the iMac.
I have a second monitor for my iMac and than i moved the mac so instead of the monitor being on the right it is now on the left and now every time I reboot it thinks that it is on the right not the left.
So I would like to connect my iMac 27" to my pc soon (July 9th)Can I connect it with a HDMI cable by using the MiniDisplayPort "converter" to HDMI?I don't really know what the year is of the iMac but I bought it in 2011 on the Apple online store website.I can see Thunderbolt ports on the back of my iMac, can that give you a hint about the year of the iMac?Â
At present my computer is an old PPC eMac with OS X 10.4.11. I want to buy an up-to-date 21" iMac. (I can't afford either the cost or the space for a 27" one.) But I have a mass of software and of files (a host of articles, etc., in that old warhorse, AppleWorks, for instance, and the scores of my musical compositions in an old version of Finale) which, for reasons it would be tedious to go into here, I cannot update so that they would work in the iMac.Â
If I buy the iMac, I want, for reasons of space, to get rid of my present eMac. But I have the offer of an old PPC Mac Mini with the same OS as my present eMac, to which I could transfer the contents of my present eMac hard disk. If I were to do that, I would want to use the new iMac as a monitor for the Mini. On the face of it, this cannot be achieved with the 21" iMac (only with the 27" iMac).Â
Is there any software or other adaptor-device that would permit this? I have looked at the EyeTV website, and it looks to me as if that is not what I would need.
I have an iMac 27-late 2009 (YD03003M5PE) I'm considering buying a macbook air for business travel, but when I'm home would like to use it through my monitor and keyboard. what's the best way to do that? should i connect it directly as a monitor? / keyboard? (hardware connection) can this be done through the video port? alternatively, should i use a remote screen/monitor access of some sort? (software connection)
I am in the process of burning several home video tapes to DVDs. Sharing a HD video can take up to 5 hours.I can't seem to get my monitor to stay off during that time.Is there a way to do that? If not, can I create a shortcut to the "display" settings so I can quickly turn the brightness down as much as possible?
I have an old PC monitor that I want to connect to my new 27 inch iMac, it's the latest edition, the one that doesn't have any mini display ports. All I have are four USB 2.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports. No mini display port of any kind. So is there an adapter for me? My old monitor can use either VGA or HDMI and I'm not really fussed which one I use. A link would be most helpful, surley that are more people with the same problem.
Lately my iMac monitor keeps shutting off every couple of minutes. It seems like its in sleep mode but if i move the mouse or press a button on the key board it doesn't go back on. I have to press the power button 2 times to get it to turn back on. When the monitor turns on everything is still there right before it shut off.
I have an iMac 5K connected to a second monitor (HP ZR2740W) via mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. In Displays prefs, I can only select resolutions of Best for Display or Scaled-1280x720 (which doesn't change anything.) I'd like to be able to change to a higher resolution.
Info: iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
So My name is Lindsey and I have been an avid apple supporter. However in the last two weeks I've come extremely close to selling everything apple I own and going back to windows. I purchased a refurbished Intel Imac through the apple store about 4 months ago. Awesome computer, everything worked great. Well I recently decided to add an additional monitor so of course I started browsing the forums and did my due diligence. I read that there were some compatibility issues with some of the older imacs and the apple 24 in led display so naturally I called my nearest apple store to find out if I could use this display.
The sales associate listened as I explained that I had a 2008 intel Imac and assured my the display would work without an adapter. Of course you guys know this is totally wrong but I was unaware of this fact at the time. SO I drove a 6 hour round trip to Dallas and paid 970 in cash for my new monitory. Get it home and realize that something is obv wrong. I call the store back and the clerk tells me I need an adapter that can be bought at Best Buy. I drive 45 min to best buy. They are sold out. Next day I drive an hour and a half to the next closest Best Buy. They dont have it either..............................
