Intel Mac :: Can't Seem To Get Monitor To Stay Off During That Time
Jun 22, 2012
I am in the process of burning several home video tapes to DVDs. Sharing a HD video can take up to 5 hours.I can't seem to get my monitor to stay off during that time.Is there a way to do that? If not, can I create a shortcut to the "display" settings so I can quickly turn the brightness down as much as possible?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks. I have Startup Items set to launch Activity Monitor and have the Hide checkbox checked, but the window keeps appear at login.
All of the other apps set in a similar manner work just fine (i.e., they start and their windows say hidden)Â ... Why Hide does not mean "Hide" for this one app?

If you connect say a 13inch macbook to a 19inch monitor using the closed clamshell mode, will the picture quality on the monitor be like a stretched out version of the 13inch screen? I.e. poor, or does the macbook just act like a desktop computer and allow high quality viewing.

My Time Capsule seems to have died. If I unplug it then plug it back in, the yellow light comes on, then shuts off after about a minute... and nothing more happens. Is it truly dead?

I am desperate and really need an answer to this question. I have tried everything and had no luck.Â
I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) running Yosemite. Whenever I close the screen, it will fall asleep like it normally does. However, the external light will only pulse once (instead of continuously), and then I can hear the hard drive begin spinning again. The external light then stays at a constant, but the screen does not light back up.Â
It's like the computer falls asleep, but then only the hard drive wakes up, and stays woken up. This fact causes my Macbook to eventually use up whatever battery power it has and get warm in my backpack. The only thing I can do to preserve battery power is to shut down the whole computer and boot it up every time I need it.Â
Also, on a side note. My computer seems to run much slower than it did on it's native Mavericks.

My iMac desktop will not stay on one program. In other words, I will open a program such as Safari or Pages, and after it loads, the program acts as though I have clicked on some other screen space. So I have to take my mouse and click on the program to begin typing but the process repeats. I think its about every 15 seconds I have to constantly use the mouse to click on the program so I can continue typing. I haven't downloaded anything recently and I have no idea how to fix this, sort of rebooting the whole system.

I just got a lexar 1000x 32 gig compact flash card. When I put it in the card reader it repeatedly connects and disconnects. I bought two cards and they both do it so I don't think it's a bad card. I'm using a lexar professional UDMA compact flash, sd reader (usb 2.0).

Bought a new iMac in January, have a problem with the screen saver not coming on automatically after working okay for maybe three or four days. Have had about six calls and spent many hours with Apple techs. We get things working and then after a few days the hot corners won't hold, the screen saver won't come on automatically and the computer doesn't go to sleep as set up. If I manually put it to sleep it doesn't stay asleep for very long. Shutting down or a safe boot, will make it work right again.

I am considering replacing my G4 Mac mini, which is used primarily as a desktop. It turns out that my computer desk is very close to my Sharp Aquos LC32GA5U TV. With the right adapters, it should be possible to have my monitor and TV connected to the new Mac mini at the same time. The DVI/HDMI cable to my TV should be about 12 ft. I have some questions about a setup like this. Will a video cable of this length cause any issues? My TV will not be turned on all the time. Does Leopard recognize the fact that a display is turned off and prevent apps from putting their windows on it?

So I've had a monitor hooked up to my MBP since I got it. But just recently when I walk away and come back, it won't come back on when I hit the trackpad or keyboard. It has become very annoying because everytime I want to use my computer now, I have to take the MBP off its stand, open it up then unplug my monitor and plug it back in, in order to get it to work. I then can close my MBP and put it back on the stand and continue using it. Â
I have shut off power saver and screen saver, but still no luck at getting it to work. I have no clue as to what else this could be or what caused it.Â

I have a mid 2011 MacBook Air 13 inch with a single Thunderbolt port. I have the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter cable which I am able to use to run a Dell 24 inch monitor - this cable connects to both the DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port and also a USB port on the Air. I want to be able to run this Dell monitor, and also run a Thunderbolt hard drive - one with 2 Thunderbolt ports. Is this possible? Can I connect the DisplayPort part of the cable to the pass-through Thunderbolt port on the hard drive, and then connect the hard drive to the Thunderbolt port on the Air? I would like to buy the Apple Thunderbolt display (which would solve this issue), but I suspect it will may refreshed soon. So I don't intend to get one until then.

I have a 15-inch MBP (2011) 2.3 GHz, Core i7 with 8 GB of memory and a Vertex 3 MAX IOPS SSD. I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4.As you can imagine, this is one quick system. When I first installed Lion (I did a clean install on a brand new SSD when Lion came out), my shutdown time was literally under half a second. Then a few days later, as I installed my usual apps, I noticed that the shutdown time suddenly went to 20 seconds with the usual grey screen and spinning wheel. I figured that one of my programs must be causing this, but could never figure out which. After living with this for months, I decided today to use Activity Monitor to try to quit some processes to see if my shutdown time would go down. After a few tries, I noticed that just starting and quitting Activity Monitor brings my shutdown time back to half a second..
I repeated this over a dozen times. I start my system and immediately shut it down: it takes 20 seconds to shutdown. Then I start it, run Activity Monitor and then immediately quit it, then shutdown: it takes half a second to shutdown.I can obviously live with a 20-second shutdown time. I don't shutdown often anyway and the system is super fast otherwise. But it's still nice to get to the bottom of this.

I recently bought a new iMac. The old iMac I have is a 2007 version with a Mini DVI port out. I hate to just dicard the old iMac at this point. Is there any way I can use it as an extra monitor? Could i come out of my new one via Thunderbolt to Mini DVI? Even if is available, would the old iMac act like a monitor?
