Intel Mac :: How To Add 2d Monitor For Internet Tv
Mar 18, 2012
2008 iMac, OS 10.6.8. Bought a 2004 Dell monitor, hoping to hook it up to watch internet tv (Hulu) on while I do work on main monitor. Went from on the Dell to the iMac's mini-dv port.

I have an external monitor that I am trying to hook up to via the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. When it's not hooked up, the internet works, but as soon as I plug in the monitor, the internet stops working.

I can't stream movies; to slow 0.3-0.4 mbps. My ISP says I have Preferred Service with Powerboost but won't commit to a guaranteed speed. Using cable modem and TC.
What software might be safe to use to do this?

I need an app that will run 24/7 in the background and regularly (perhaps once a minute) check the status of my internet connection, logging all instances when the connection is down (this is to give me some ammunition to use against my ISP). Does anyone know of such a thing for the Mac?

For specific reasons, I needed to connect my Synology DS211 NAS to my iMac directly via its ethernet port. I discovered that if I share my wireless internet connection (coming from my cable modem/wireless router) from wireless to ethernet, then the NAS would get the IP stuff it needed to show up. did that, voila, NAS is acting like a glorified external hard drive. BUT, when I did that, I lost all internet connectivity on my iMac. Still have full wireless signal. preferences pane says I'm fully connected to my network with an IP address, but safari always fails to pull up any webpages, saying I'm not connected to the internet. As soon as turn off the ethernet PORT, it all starts working again. And to make it even crazier, I discovered that if I leave sharing my wireless internet via my ethernet port ON, but turn off the ethernet port (in pref pane), I can STILL access the NAS just like before. That makes no sense - I'm sharing my internet via a port I have turned off, but it works? Anyway, why would Iose my airport wireless internet connection when the ethernet port is on - configured manually?

I recently purchased a 21.5" Samsung monitor that is connected to my late 2009 13" 2.26GHz 8GB RAM MacBook Pro through a VGA connection with the VGA to Mini DisplayPort adaptor. Since I've started using it, my Internet connection has slowed to a crawl. I've researched the issue online and external monitors can apparently created wireless interference. I'm using a 2011 AirPort Extreme 802.11n/b/g. Is there anything I can do to eliminate this interference?

can someone tell me a way to monitor ALL my internet usage per/month or spesific dates. I have looked at some widgets, but none of them do a good job. Please keep in mind that I connect via wireless, USB based 3G modem and ethernet. But I also browse/copy/move files on my local network. So I need true internet usage not including network traffic.

I've been searching for Internet Monitor, or Meter for OSX including the searches on this forum but unfortunately I wasn't able to find it.
The only place I've found is [URL], but only trial version available. I'm only looking for freeware that can be placed on the menubar. Anyone found it?

I recently bought a new iMac. The old iMac I have is a 2007 version with a Mini DVI port out. I hate to just dicard the old iMac at this point. Is there any way I can use it as an extra monitor? Could i come out of my new one via Thunderbolt to Mini DVI? Even if is available, would the old iMac act like a monitor?

I need to know how to calibrate my monitor so that I know what my photographs are going to look like before they get printed. Either that or would it be better to buy a third party calibrator, like X-rite?

I just bought a LG IPS 226v-PN monitor and am using a mini-dsiplayport to HDMI adapter to connect. The monitor was automatically found and I can see and use it as a dual monitor but I am seen a snow like effect on the screen with pixel randomly activating (looks like snow). The other problem is the screen keeps turning off and on.I have switched it to both NTSC and PAL on the iMac.

At present my computer is an old PPC eMac with OS X 10.4.11. I want to buy an up-to-date 21" iMac. (I can't afford either the cost or the space for a 27" one.) But I have a mass of software and of files (a host of articles, etc., in that old warhorse, AppleWorks, for instance, and the scores of my musical compositions in an old version of Finale) which, for reasons it would be tedious to go into here, I cannot update so that they would work in the iMac.
If I buy the iMac, I want, for reasons of space, to get rid of my present eMac. But I have the offer of an old PPC Mac Mini with the same OS as my present eMac, to which I could transfer the contents of my present eMac hard disk. If I were to do that, I would want to use the new iMac as a monitor for the Mini. On the face of it, this cannot be achieved with the 21" iMac (only with the 27" iMac).
Is there any software or other adaptor-device that would permit this? I have looked at the EyeTV website, and it looks to me as if that is not what I would need.

I have an iMac 27-late 2009 (YD03003M5PE) I'm considering buying a macbook air for business travel, but when I'm home would like to use it through my monitor and keyboard. what's the best way to do that? should i connect it directly as a monitor? / keyboard? (hardware connection) can this be done through the video port? alternatively, should i use a remote screen/monitor access of some sort? (software connection)

I would like to find a non-working 21.5" iMac, and use it as a second monitor to my existing 21.5"er.
Of course, the monitor portion would need to be working.
I would like the second monitor to match the iMac. I can't find a 3rd party mfg'er that makes a monitor that matches close enough.

If not, can I create a shortcut to the "display" settings so I can quickly turn the brightness down as much as possible?

I have an old PC monitor that I want to connect to my new 27 inch iMac, it's the latest edition, the one that doesn't have any mini display ports. All I have are four USB 2.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports. No mini display port of any kind. So is there an adapter for me? My old monitor can use either VGA or HDMI and I'm not really fussed which one I use. A link would be most helpful, surley that are more people with the same problem.
