I try to connect my soundcard motu 896 MK3 to the firewire plug and my computer doesn't recognize it. When i check on the apple menu/about this mac/more info/firewire it says that it can't figure out what hardware is connected. If i plugg another device through the same firewire plugg then it works.

I've got an iMac 27" late 2009 with these: Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3Â Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB and I would like to upgrade my "ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB" to something higher with 2 GB. My question is: is it possible? Like taking off the screen and display and replacing the old video card with a new one without any issues?

Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

My switch completed in Christmas of 2005 with a late '05 Power Mac G5 Dual-Core 2.3GHz with 1GB RAM and 250GB HDD. I decided to get another monitor and it is a Sony 19" LCD one. I also didn't get any speakers since I used headphones a lot at the time. I recently decided to start using speakers. So temporarily, I am using the Altec Lansing BX1120 2.0 Stereo speakers from Walmart for only $15. They sound great but I would like 5.1 surround sound to watch my DVDs (and to soon upgrade to BluRay & SACD/DVD-A; but that's for another thread later on). Before I go on, I would like to ask questions and provide facts with what my 'puter has. My specific products I'm looking for is at the bottom of this message.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use a mini display port to HDMI to get the video and i use audio Y cable splitter for the audio.i can get video but not sound. If i disconnect the HDMI cable from the T.V. then i can get sound. If the HDMI cable and the audio cables are connected at the same time i can get video but no sound. I called Sony and according to them there is no setting on the T.V. that would help. My theory is that it's some kind of setting in the imac that prevents it from sending audio and video to the tv at the same time. Unfortunately i have not been able to figure it out.Â

Well I didnt' read the fine print and BAZINGA! I noticed that it comes without a video card.
So For video editing, watching hulu and youtube and netflix What do you guys recommend.

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan someone who's 'up' on imacs give me a steer here.At the beginning of the week, with only a 14 days to go on my 3 year Applecare warranty, I noticed a grey streaky 'misting' on the screen when it was turned off. It was really quite bad. Called Applecare, who got their servicing company to collect it, screen replaced with no problems. Got it back today, new screen, looks great. Â
So far so good. Except that the fan is now whirling around and making an incredible noise after about 10 minutes of the machine being turned on. I'd say it's around 5 times as loud (or hyperactive) as it was before I sent it off for a new screen. One of the things I turned to the imac for was it's quietness, so this is worse for me than a misty screen, to be honest. Sounds like a hairdryer.Â
Put it this way: I often listen to music late at night, very low, but now the fan would drown out the sound of the music. Called Applecare, who are going to get it collected again, but from what I've read in these forums this evening (& I'm no expert) it could be a software related problem (temperature controls and all that...) I'm not sure that the guy I was talking to at Applecare today quite understood what I was trying to explain, and said it was definitely a hardware problem. I want to call Applecare back on Monday before the mac's collected again to just make sure it has to be carted off again, with a bit of back up info from anybody who might help here.Â

How do I reinstall Mac OS X after the hard drive has been replaced? I had an authorized Apple repair facility replace the hard drive on my IMac when the original drive died. I have the Mac OS X Install DVD which says "To start up from Mac OS X, hold down the C key as the computer starts up." I've tried that and all I get is a folder icon with a question mark on it. I'm guessing that's because I don't have the the OS installed to start from. How do I get the OS X installed?

It looks like in many cases there's two versions, and the mac version costs about 10x as much on ebay and in stores. Is that accurate, or is one of these models mac and pc compatable, and therefore the laws of supply and demand work in my favour?
(fyi: I just want the cheapest one, I don't do heavy GPU work)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had an issue with the 9600m GT Graphics card a few weeks ago where the graphics card wouldn't display anything when plugged into an external monitor. The apple store checked it out and said the logic board was faulty and that it would need to be replaced under warranty. (Late 2008 15" macbook pro).
When I received the laptop back, they not only replaced the logic board, but they also replaced the SSD with a 250gb 5400rpm hard drive. I called in and, after being upgraded to the top level supervisor, he said that all of the hard drives being replaced were sent to be refurbished or recycled and that my hard drive had a fault in it so they replaced it. He says that they restore it to the apple original condition and originally they sold it with a 250gb hard drive in it so that's what they replaced it with. Their policy is that only if they replace aftermarket ram with apple ram will they return the aftermarket parts back to you. This repair was conducted yesterday, the 15th of January by apple Tech ID #612525.
I don't expect to get my data back, but if anyone has any idea on how I can get my hard drive back, I'd be willing to reward $100. A new Intel SSD X25-M G2 would be around 250 so I wouldn't want to do that.
I've been on the phone all day with the apple support so I am very frustrated right now.
I'm using X-Fi card for music/gaming in my PC and really enjoy it. I'm looking for a soundcard for my Mac (going to purchase in the next month). I didn't find a card that suits me. I'm not a pro and don't do recording or such stuff. I just need a good sound card for music like X-Fi. Also I need 5.1 channel sound.
The card should be able to offer similar features that X-Fi offers that really makes music enjoyable (Remember I'm a consumer don't care about accuracy so much, just should be pleasant to hear). The reason I'm getting Mac Pro over iMac is for this. I don't need cheap external cards. The quality and features should be comparable to X-Fi or Asus Xonar. Also I don't want cards that require additional components like amplifier and such things.
I have 2x 2.1 speakers, and I want to use them all at once in my Mac Pro. Can I insert a sound card and how will it work?

i use my MBP as my main computer here in college. i saw a good deal on these speakers and my friend has the exact same speakers that he uses with his pc so i know the sound quality is good. the thing is that is 5.1 surround sound and he needed to buy a sound card 'cause you cant just plug it into the headphone/speaker outlet on the computer. i want these speakers, but since since i cant hook up a sound card ( or possibly just not know that i can) am i better off just lookin for another set of speakers.

I was previously using an older home-built PC with a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 PCI sound card. Would I be able to swap this sound card into my Mac Pro? I'm not looking to improve the sound quality so much; rather I'd just like to use all of my 5.1 speakers.
