View 2 Replies View RelatedMost of the time when I turn on the Mac I get the white screen and question mark appear. Sometimes it will turn on and work. But often the coloured spinning wheel starts up especially after trying to use iphoto it freezes and a couple of times the screen has then gone black. The computer seemed pretty warm yesterday when this happened.Â

So i updated to 10.5.7 the other day and it took a few restarts to get it going, but all is well now.
i was just tooling around on my computer with several programs open as i usually do (safari looking at gmail, ical, mail, itunes, ichat, weatherdock, TM error logger), then all of a sudden a grey dim starts at the top of the screen and swipes all the way to the bottom then the following message appears: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."
Anyone else have this issue with 10.5.7? what did it mean if you had it in the past?
I'm running a mid 2007 MBP 2.4 SR, with stock 2GB RAM, stock 160GB hard drive, 2 Western Digital external hard drives, one USB for Times Machine and a FW800 for iTunes media.
When i start the computer and the grey screen comes up with the apple logo etc., a grey "loading" bar has started appearing in the bottom of the screen. Takes a few minutes for it to go away. In the meantime the computer gets very hot and the fans are up to 6000 rpm. Then the os starts up, and I cannot download anything, due to the fact that it thinks my harddrive is full, though i have more than 100 gb of free space.I cant even download the 10.6.2 now due to the harddrive appears to be full
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Mac Mini with a 24 inch Philips display. When I connected the display and started up the computer, it booted up and showed the grey apple screen, but it never made it past that. On the screen it reads "cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1920x1080@60Hz." As you might have realized, I can't get onto the computer to do so because I cannot see what I am doing. This is extremely frustrating because I had my Mini hooked into my friend's tv and it worked perfectly right away and now I can't even get it to connect. Does anybody know any hotkeys/solutions to this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI hear the computer physically turn on, but a blank screen remains. I recently purchased a new battery for the computer for the battery status read replace soon about a week ago. I sense that maybe there is a shortage in the wiring that connects what shows on the screen to the computer, but I'm not completely sure.

Computer starts (keyboard lit, music plays, caps lock light on), but no screen. I need to open and close 2 - 30 times before the screen will turn on. Once on, the computer works perfectly. I've tried PRAM and safemode reset.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop was dead then I restarted it. I hear the fan going and the the CAPS LOCK light comes on. But the screen is black. About a minute later the screen turns on and has a message that asks me to pick a language. then asks me what type of problem I am having with using my password. (Which I am not having). So I reset my password then it says itll restart. Only to do it again. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 15inch.

When i turn on my computer it goes to the regular white screen with the apple with the pinwheel. Then i goes to a blue screen and it changes to a different shade of blue and the pin wheel shows up. The two blue screens just alternate untill i hit the power button the shut it off.

I came home to find my IMAC stuck at the grey apple screen with a circle of dots spinning...I've been trying to piece together the events that led up to this:
1) The night before I ran some updates including the osx 10.7.4 update and then selected restart and went to bed
2) THe next day my son says that they tried to put a DVD in and it was still on the grey screen...they inserted the DVD anyway
3) I tried unplugging etc and then rebooting but same grey screen
4) I rebooted with the track pad held down and it managed to eject the DVD
5) Now when rebooting i get 3 bleeps repeated, I've retried this a few times and its the same
6) I have rebooted using CMD R and see that the Macintosh HD is listed showing 466 GB free which I hope means that the other 534GB is still on there...not sure if I should repair itÂ
I've had this IMAC since January and am ashamed ot say that I DONT THINK I HAVE A BACK UP yet...I was ust about to buy an external HD big enough to back it up so VERY CONCERNED about losing my recently uploaded entire family home movie collection as I speak my wife is holding back the tears..

I have an imac from late 2008 with snow leopard. Late saturday evening 24 Mar I had powered down my imac then later turned it on. Now only a grey screen appears, nothing more. If I leave the imac on a folder with a question mark appears and blinks.I have tried the following to fix the problem and ALL HAVE FAILED:they are:
1. resetting the pram. it doesnt work.
2. booting from the installation cd. The imac doesn't even READ the cd, the screen remains grey and doesn't read the cd at all.
3. booting in the safe mode. nothing happens, the screen remains grey.
4. booting in apple hardware test mode: nothing happens screen remains grey.
5. boot with option key pressed, so as to choose mac HD or my windows partition. nothing happens, the screen remains grey.
When I power on my imac I heard the chord, a slight spin of the HHD I'm sure that's what it is,and then nothing.grey screen.I have tried unpluggling the power cord for 15 seconds, reconnecting it, waiting five secondsand then powering up the imac. it doesn't do any good.do you think it is a hard drive error or failure? why doesn't it read or boot from the instillation CD?? and yes I am using the correct disk.Â

everytime I try to boot my iMac it gets stuck at the first grey screen. No logo, no loader, nothing but a grey screen. I have tried everything here > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 > with no results. The grey screen remains there, with no changes. The only thing that seems to work, but only for a seconds, is holding the option (alt) key at startup. After a few seconds, the pointer of the mouse appears.

I was trying to download the free version of a game, and immediately after i clicked download, i started to see the computer slow down a bit. However, I just thought that it was a lag and it would fix itself when the game completely dowloaded. Afterwards, it said that there were a few errors that occured during the download, and asked me if I wanted to continue to play. I clicked yes, because I didn't think it would be much of a problem. Afterwards, the mouse was stuck on the middle of the screen, and no matter how much I wanted to click out of the window, quit Safari, or even restart my computer, the mouse would continue to go back to the one spot. I have absolutely no idea what to do to restart the computer, or quit Safari. All I have done is just sleep the computer, but that hasn't helped it at all.

I have a mid-2007 model and I replaced the x2 stock 1GB sticks with x2 2GB sticks. I followed the correct procedures, (I think), and when I powered it on the fan came back on but the screen was black. I unplugged the unit and replaced put the old RAM back in and now when I power it up the screen just goes grey and beeps when I turn it on.
