Turn on computer gets to login in screen. Put in password. Stuck on white screen. Upon logging in. It says we need to delete files. We can't delete files because stuck on white screen.

I have a unibody macbook and today it was working fine, then tonight i opened it up it was frozen so after a minute of trying to get it to work with no sucess I held the power button until it turned off. when I tried turning on again the screen stayed white and would not turn on. So i turned it off and held option and the scary part is the osx partition is gone but my window partition is still there Im posting this from the window partition. How could it just randomly dissappear I didnt even use the windows part for the past month.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

I have a colleague who is still running 10.2 (yea I know, time to upgrade, but they haven't felt the need for it yet I guess). Anyway, someone changed and forgot, or someone did it to be a jerk, either way they are unable to update any software or even log in. Just wondering how to rest the password. The computer is stuck on the log in screen currently and they can't access anything.

But often the coloured spinning wheel starts up especially after trying to use iphoto it freezes and a couple of times the screen has then gone black. The computer seemed pretty warm yesterday when this happened.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, last night there was an update for OSx Lion. I installed the 3 items, it said I needed to restart, which I did. When it restarted there was another box, which was checking the updates or something. After that finished, it logged into my home screen, and I shut it off. Today, I tried turning it on and it was stuck. After 10 minutes, I held the power button to shut it off and try again. I did this twice, and on the third time a loading bar showed up at the bottom of the screen, went for a while and almost reached halfway, then it dissappeared. I waited, but nothing happened. What's wrong and how to I fix it? I think its 10.7.3, but it might be 10.7.2 I'm not sure what the difference is.

i tried to install snow leopard on my computer, but then found out it was only a one user disk and had already been used, so i started it back up on the hardrive and now it wont go past the white loading screen with the apple logo and then just shuts down. ive tried restarting in safe mode but thats about all i know how to do.

My MacBook Pro won't boot past the white startup screen with the Apple logo. After doing some trouble shooting my best guess is that the issue is either an issue with the logic board or the hard drive, but I am no expert so I may not be right. Here is what I have tried so far. I have done all these steps multiple times and the results have varied, but here are my most recent results:
1) First off, there are no peripherals connected so that is already ruled out as the cause.
2) When I try starting up in safe mode (holding shift while starting), the Apple logo, spinning wheel and progress bar appear. The progress bar fills about a third of the way then stops. I have left it for quite a long time and it still stays at a third of the way.
3) When running a safe boot (holding shift+command+v at startup) it gives me a " SATA WARNING: Enable auto-activate failed" message, and then eventually times out. Here is the full message:
4) Resetting the PRAM (holding option+command+p+r at startup) does the second chime but only results in the flashing folder icon with the question mark.
5) I tried booting up the computer in single user mode (holding command+s at startup) and running fsck -fy, it again gives me a "SATA WARNING: Enable auto-activate failed", then eventually times out. Here is the full message:
6) I tried booting in recovery mode (holding option while starting). When I do this I do not get the OSX utilities screen. Instead I get a white screen, sometimes my hard drive shows up on the screen, sometimes it does not.
If i boot in recovery mode with my osx install disc inserted the disc appears. If I select the hard drive we are just back to the apple logo and spinning wheel. If I select the install disc it goes to the apple logo/spinning wheel again, sometimes it allows me to start running the install, but then when it gets to the step where you select the hard drive to run the install on, no hard drives appear.
So that's where I'm at. I do not care about losing any data because luckily I backed up this machine right before this started happening.
I installed Mavericks and it restarted and now it is stuck on the apple screen. I've tried to reinstall and it gets to the same point. I should've have back up my Hd but did not do this. Is there any way to access my drive and save the files?

Hi! Im new to the forums but i really need help with something and i was hoping someone here could help me out. So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking

upon rebooting from the update, it froze at the grey Apple loading screen, and of course I thought nothing of it and gave it a little restart. Since then I cannot get it past the grey screen or the login window. it seems as though I cannot type in my password or click 'sleep' or any option the window gives me. I've been working on this issue all day, and I've tried countless things from the apple support community, with no avail.
I've tried clearing the cache, I've tried safe mode, I've tried the command+option+control+enter trick on the login page, I'm even trying to boot from the install disc my friend gave me...and it's just refusing to move past the grey screen.

I have a 13" macbook pro, i was using it one night and was runnung ok until i come back to it the next morning.I opened the lid but the backlight didnt come on but could just see the screen so i re-started it by holding down the power button and then thats where it never worked again for me. I have followed some of the tips from some forums but i have no luck.i used another hdd for my mac to use on as its bigger GB than the original,ive been using that for 5 months with no problems, now my mac wont show any of the hdd's even the orginal one that wasnt formatted. Ive managed to format the original one but its not showing that one niether.the second hdd ive left with the snow lepard on it. Now with the other mac ive plugged them both in externally and shows up on desktop but still no luck on the mac thats down. Ive even tried with the installation cd that shows up on startup management but nothing eles.

I hear the computer physically turn on, but a blank screen remains. I recently purchased a new battery for the computer for the battery status read replace soon about a week ago. View 3 Replies View RelatedI ran software update and got (iPhoto, itunes, Security patch) so I ran it and downloaded everything except the Intel Security Patch. So I restarted and decided to try again. Restart didn't work as it got stuck and I had to reach around and restart by holding down the power button. When it came back up, I got the white screen with the grey apple logo and the spinning clock like icon..... spinning and that is where I am stuck, left it off all night and tried it in the morning, same thing.

-resetting pram (nothing happened)

I would try to start up from the OSX disk except I have a DVD in the machine. I am thinking it was that security update that didn't download fully that is doing this but how do I get the imac, "unstuck"? or how do I manually eject that DVD to put in a OSX start up disk?
Computer starts (keyboard lit, music plays, caps lock light on), but no screen. I need to open and close 2 - 30 times before the screen will turn on. Once on, the computer works perfectly. I've tried PRAM and safemode reset.

However just yesterday it became unbearable to use. 10 min to start up, once it was on took forever to open up any files etc. So I did some research online and I decided my best option was to reinstall the OS with my startup disk. I did that and erased all my harddrive (nothing important on it.) After doing that it ran great like brand new. Today I turn it on, it continues to work great for a few hours then it freezes in me. I held down the power button to restart. Turned back on and it was stuck on the white apple startup screen. After 15 min I decided to power it off and let it rest a while. After resting it still won't start up.
