Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.3 - Export Audio As Separate Files From Multicam Clip
Aug 27, 2014
I've been trying to to export my Audio from FCPX 10.1.3 as Separate Files (per Roles) from a Multicam clip but it stops and freezes after exporting the first Audio track listed in the export setting. Example:
I have a Multicam clip with 3 Audio Roles (Bob, John and Marc, all assigned to their Audio Roles). When i export Audio as Roles (separate files), i then select all the Roles i want to export: Marc + John + Bob. It will export up to 35% or so and freeze. Then i look in the Finder location of the export to see the audio of Marc only.
If i put John + Marc + Bob, i will see the Audio for John only and so on.If (i have to at this point) i cancel the export, the audio file gets deleted and i get nothing out of FCP. Is there a way to export Audio as Separate Roles file from a Multicam clip or do i need to add all the Audio clip separately from the Multicam on the Timeline?
I'm adding the audio in the Multicam clip so that, if i want to remove a chunk of video from the timeline, The audio attached to it will also be removed and everything stays sync'ed after the cut i made.Â
I tried Detaching the Audio from the Main Timeline. I then get the Audio but still in a "multi cam" bundle. When i select that and look in the Inspector, i see all the Roles but i can't Export like i want to.Â

I am able to create a multicam clip, and when I double click it it drops to the timeline & appears in my Angles viewer. However, when I hover my mouse over the 3 different angles it doesn't change to the blade, nor does clicking the clips themselves seem to make any cuts. In short, I have a multicam clip that I can set up but cannot edit. Have the Pro Manuals & watched many how to videos but I cannot tell what I'm doing differently.

I'm fully up-to-date with all the software.Â
I am recording a day-and-a-half worth of presentations. The video will total out to be about 12 hours or more. I am recording presentations by various professors on different subjects. 12-hour-video is worthless to a normal sane person. I want to cut the video into sections and then export to Vimeo. Ultimately I would like to slice-up everything into 15-20 minute sections.Â
Is there an easy way, say "chapters", that I can setup in FCPX and then click "Export" and export out 40-or-so videos? I'd like to call a section "Greg-1" and "Greg-2" and have FCPX generate Greg-1.mp4 and Greg-2.mp4, etc...Â

I did a shoot with audio on a green screen stage. I have some video clips of my actors shot on a RED Scarlett in 4K 29.97.I have audio clips recorded on a Zoom H4 with a boom mic at 16 bit 44.1 khz.Â
I take the 2 clips in FCP X and I create a synchronized clip. The video clip doesn't have an audio channel so I have to manually sync using the slate. I have the correct audio clip and the correct video clip, but the audio clip is longer than the video clip. It's just running a tad slower than the video clip. I tried creating a project in 44.1khz instead of 48khz and FCP X didn't treat it any differently.

Doing a sound mix. Lots of tracks.Â
Talking about wild audio tracks not directly related to video clips.Â
I find I want to attach a particular audio clip to a different video clip (given that without tracks it has to be attached to SOMETHING). Is there a way to move an audio clips affiliation to an alternate video clip? Especially without having to drag it out of place to do so?Â
Which leads to another question: is there any way to freeze an audio clip in place? Â

When I sync one audio file with one video file the video file is always placed in the primary storyline and the audio file is always placed under it. And the new syncronised clip is named afte the video file.Â
when I sync multiple audio files to one video file. It seems to be random what file endsup in the primary storyline of the new compound clip, most of the time is seems to be one of the audio files. This is troublesom as the syncing acuracy is then limited to the frame as the smallest incrament of adgustment. Also, it menas I have to manualy change the names of my now syncronised clips as the names are not consistant making sorting dificult. (This all results in a lot of time spent fixing this behavoir and realy dampens the advantages of the sync feature.)Â
the video should not be the primary track in a new syncrosnised compound clip and I can't find any link between my behavoir and the resulting choise of which tile is the primary sortyline track.

I have Final Cut Express 4 running on an iMac with Leopard 10.3.5. The problem I have is I cannot hear a music track & the sound track on the film clip at the same time when I run the clip. I only hear the clip sound track until it finishes then the music track plays. If I drag the scrubber bar along the time line I can hear both the music & the Clip sound track together. This only happens when I logon to the Mac as an Administrator. (I have never managed to hear both sound tracks together whilst logged on as Administrator.)
In desperation I created a user account on my iMac. If I logon as a user Final Cut Express 4 works ok ? I hear both sound tracks together when I play the clip. Any ideas how I can make the Administrator account work as the User account does? As the iMac is only used by myself I don?t need any user accounts.

I’ve got the locked edit in FCPX. 90+ min, 8000 clips.Timeline is set at 23.98, clips on the timeline are some 23.98, but mostly the BMCC 24p. No prob for FCPX. It plays with whatever you throw at it. The problem comes in when I’m trying to export OUT, because the other programs don’t like it. Like I’ve got to get my audio post engineer this AAF for ProTools out with X2Pro. X2Pro doesn’t support this "retiming" that FCPX does and spits out warnings for non-conformance. What to do? Change all the clips to 23.98 or change all the clips to 24p, or is there some other better/easier way to get that audio (with syncing video) out to ProTools?

I edited a multicam project that had three AVCHD clips as the source. The footage was optimized (although I never chose to do it –Final Cut did it on its own). The project is done now I want to send the Library overseas. I'd like to just put it on a thumb drive rather than have to buy and ship a hard drive. What happens if I delete the optimized media? Is there a way to switch it so FCPX plays back the original media, not the transcoded, and I'll let the next editor decide whether she wants to optimize? Â

I have a multicam clip and when I open it in the Angle Editor, I can't move any of the clips. They just snap back to where they were. For whatever reason, FCP X really fudged up the "auto" syncing of these clips and I have to move them around and sync manually.Â
What's the secret? I can press , and . to nudge left and right but grabbing them and dragging them down the timeline isn't working.

After transferring my projects, and then events (separately) to my external hard drive, everything worked after relinking media except for all of my compound clips and multicam clips. Â
I do not know where to locate them in Finder, nor how to get them back. When I tried transferring my events and projects back to my internal hard drive, they still were not there.Â
Everything was fine before with Final Cut Pro X (Version 10.0.8) but now it is seriously hindering my work.Â

A friend is cutting a film 3,000 miles away. She's just received a stack of video files, AVCHD I think, along with .wav audio files recorded simultaneously on a Zoom. Whoever shot the footage didn't think to number the Zoom files to match the video files. So my friend will have twenty video files with matching Zoom recorded audio files - but no clue as to which goes with which.Â
I'm wondering how the sync mechanism in FCP X might be employed to solve her problem? I've often linked a single known video file with its single known audio file - made a synced clip. Easy peasy. I'm wondering, does my friend have to highlight a video clip and then each of the audio clips in turn until she finds the two that will sync up properly? I'm also wondering if FCP X will artificially (inadvertently) sync whichever two (video & audio) you highlight even if they don't match -- making one messed up synced clip.Â

In compositing, I sometimes need to use snippets from previous episodes, e.g an audio grab from an older program, or a 5 sec preview. Â
Is there a fast, direct way to regenerate that grab within my new movie so I don't need to save the entire source movie along with the back up of my new movie?

Using FCP X 10.1.2.
After I create Compound Clip, I open the Inspector Window to see the location of where this clip is residing. But it just states (in the Inspector Window) under Location is (Multiple Files).Â
Is the CC just acting as a pointer to the files that I created the CC with ... or am I just not looking at the correct location / information?Â

I am running Final Cut Pro 7 and I have a clip that already has RGB Balance filter and Key filter on it. I am adding Brightness Contrast or any of the other Gamma Correction type filters to the clip, It lets me adjust the filter but when I render it this filter is not included in the render. I have done some experimenting and it seems that the RGB balance is what is stopping this filter from being applied.
I have tried with all the possible filters that will let me adjust the levels on the image, I have tried taking the clip with the first two filters and nesting it then applying the new filter to the nested clip but nothing seems to work. This clip is too dark...

I have a Library containing 22 Events which are numbered instead of named. Each event contains Green Screen clips whose thumbnails all look the same. I found the set of (Piece to Camera) clips I want, using a keyword search of the Library - but now I want to create a Compound Clip in the relevant Event so that I can do a rough edit (discard unsuitable and duplicated narrative etc).Â
Next, I want to copy the remaining good clips from this Compound to a new Project - in a different Library. I don't want to copy the unwanted clips. My problem is, finding the Event these clips originated from. I can use the disclosure triangle on each Event in turn, but surely there's a better way to find the parent Event of a clip in the browser?

I changed my mind on my workflow and want to link to external media rather than copying them to my libraries. That said...Is there a way to change the clip references?I went into the "Original Media" folder of the library, deleted the clip.
Then when I went back into the library, and went to "relink" the missing media. I navigated to the clip on the external source. However, it automatically created a copy again. I didn't see anywhere where I can opt to relink it as an external link rather than copy to library.Â

I have several clips in the Timeline that I want to change the duration. I just want one frame taken away from each clip. So I click on the clip in the Timeline, then Control+D to show duration in the Dashboard. I type in the new duration I want, which is one frame less. It takes one frame off the Back of the clip. How do I get it to take the frame off the Front of the clip?

I'm doing a quick promo. I recorded a rough script VO, organised my clips and music.Â
I then had the professional voiceover artist record a revised script.Â
However, I can't simply replace my original script as we have added a couple of things. What I would have done under 7 is lock the background music and video clips in place, remove the VO timeline, and then replace each bit separately. However, I can't do that because the video clips have connected themselves to each other.Â
I also have shuffled a couple of things around so need to keep the video the same, but move the audio to a different part. I can move the video without moving the audio, but I can't move the audio without moving or deleting the video.Â
