FaceTime :: Loses INCOMING Audio After About Five Minutes

Apr 4, 2012

I'm running the latest version of OS X Lion on a MacBook Pro purchased in late 2011. It has all of the current updates from Apple. I can start or receive FaceTime calls with no problem. I have tried calls with three different friends, incoming and initiating. These friends have used a variety of devices on their end: Another MacBook Pro, iPhone 4s running iOS5, and iPads running iOS5. In all cases, about five minutes or so into the conversation, I can no longer hear them but they can still hear me. Video continues smoothly in all cases. I can disconnect that call and re-establish a call to that same user's device with my iPhone 4 or my iPad (both running iOS5) and run FaceTime without dropping the audio in either direction no matter how long we talk. Due to the variety of devices tested, the problem seems to be narrowed down to the incoming audio in my FaceTime on my MacBook Pro dropping off after five minutes. DVD movies play without a problem, as does Netflix streaming shows. No loss of incoming audio there. Also, when the FaceTime incoming audio drops off, other sounds such as system sounds continue to work normally.

There are a variety of messages on the internet about someone losing their outgoing audio after five minutes but still able to hear the other party. However, I could find nothing on the net about losing the incoming audio only.

Applications :: Using IChat / Any Way To Mute Incoming Video Audio?

Oct 26, 2009

Is there anyway to mute incoming audio when using iChat video?

I'd rather not mute the entire system as I would just like to mute incoming audio when I'm on webcam with my girlfriend. When I was on my PC and used AIM for webcam, there was that option.

Audio On My Macbook Pro Cuts Out After A Few Minutes

Jun 3, 2012

The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes. It sounds like all the low end is removed. I still hear audio but it is MUCH lower and sounds filtered. I can barely hear it maxed out. Nothing attached (no external drives, no speakers, etc) and it's only a few days old.

MacBook Pro :: Downloaded Latest OS X Update - No Audio Output For FaceTime / Skype

May 16, 2012

I recently downloaded the lastest OS update (Lion X 10.7.4) on my MBP that I purchased in November of 2011, and since downloading it my MBP has been making a constant "humming" noise from the right speaker/disc drive area. I also don't have any audio output for FaceTime or Skype. I attempted to use Photo Booth to record a video and it doesn't record any audio. I attempted to reset SMC and reinstall Lion with no resolution of the problems.

May 7, 2012

My facetime was working fine until recently it asked for a login and this time when I did login with my Apple id, it prompted for email verification. However it is not able to complete the verification and keeps giving the following error message : Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again.

I have checked the support forums and they all point towards preferences. Problem is that the preferences option for face time is grayed out and I am not able to use them.

FaceTime :: Accessing FaceTime On Multiple Devices

I wonder if with regards to accessing FaceTime on multiple devices. We have a number of Mac products (iPad, iPhones and Mac Book Pro) at our house, all connected to one wireless network. Some of these devices can log into FaceTime but others cannot (notably the MacBook pro), using the same Apple ID details. The error message I get is that I should check my network connection. Is this normal or should I be meeting with a nerd?

MacBook Air :: Loses All Computer Settings?

Nov 20, 2010

I just got my 13" (4/128) MacBook Air yesterday, and I decided to use Migration Assistant instead of Setup Assistant - because I didn't want all of my applications to be put on the new Air.

Well, Migration Assistant screwed everything up. I ended having to reinstall iWork (it wouldn't recognize it), had to reset defaults, had to pull off a few files directly from Time Machine, etc.

Well I've got almost everything back to normal - except my Safari bookmarks!

Prior to all of this, I thought I could restore to factory settings using the little Apple stick - but even that was a hassle. It would only reinstall my OS, but it wouldn't erase and install the drive. I could get into Disk Utility, but the "Erase" button was "grayed" out...

Frustrated... if I could just get the Safari bookmarks somehow OR if someone could properly show me how to restore to factory settings (main issue is not being able to Erase and Install)...

IMac :: How To Fix Hinge Loses On 2010 I7?

Aug 11, 2010

I searched the forums but can't seem to find a definitive answer in regards to having a loose hinge on the i7.

I picked mine up yesterday and it seems a little too lose for my liking. It stays in place when it is not touched, but if you push with one finger on the bottom it will switch quite easily.

Is this how they make the hinges now or is mine too loose and should be exhanged? I don't seem to have any problems with dead pixels/yellow screen/noise and would hate to exchange it.

Hardware :: Time Capsule Repeatedly Loses WAN IP?

Jan 4, 2011

Problem with Time Capsule acting as a router for home Internet connection. It would lose it's WAN IP address after 5-10 minutes, sometimes longer. Rebooting the Time Capsule would fix it temporarily. Also, renewing the DHCP lease for the Time Capsule using the Airport Utility would bring it back instantly. It's a 500 GB Time Capsule and has 7.4.2 firmware. An update check says that that's the latest. I tried a factory settings reset. At first I thought it helped because it lasted more than 20 minutes afterward. But then did the same thing again.

Some background: Time Capsule faithfully did it's duty at another home for extended period of time without any known issues. At old home it was connected to a different cable modem - an RCA I believe. At the new home it's connected to an Arris modem that provides data and voice. For the first three or four hours it worked without issue, then it started losing it's connection (right about the time I was leaving )

The cable company tech had me believing that I had a glitchy Time Capsule. Now I think I have either a:
- incompatibility between the Time Capsule and the new Arris Telephony cable modem
- network conflict on the cable company's side of things. The Time Capsule was running connected to a different modem at a different address (and account, I believe).
- final choice is a glitchy Time Capsule.

(I first wrote this post on 9/30/10, at that time firmware 7.4.2 was current, now 7.5.2 is latest. I'm attempting to recreate the problem now. This happened at a client's home with their setup - I'm now hooking it up as my main router and using the same Arris Telephony modem. It's been running with my Arris Telephony modem on my Internet connection for over twelve hours without issue).

Applications :: Keynote 3 (iWork 06) Loses Transitions?

Jan 17, 2006

I just installed iWork 06 but it seems although I have gained a bunch of new transitions I have lost several, and some of them I used often!

Why is this? And is there a way to add the old removed ones from Keynote 2 into keynote 3?

It appears to be:
Burn
One of the Mosaic Flips
Drop
Falling tiles
Grid
Motion Dissolve

Those were good transitions!

And some of the text transitions are lost too. One odd thing I noticed is that if i bring in one of the old Keynote files with the old transitions it adds that old transition to the list!

Below is an attachment of Keynote 2 and 3 transition lists

OS X :: Shut Down UMPB But The Battery Still Loses Charge?

Sep 29, 2009

I thought when you shut down a mbp, that means you power it off completely and no drainage should occur.

Every time I turn off my mbp late at night around 1am and turn it back on in the morning around 10, I seem to lose about 1% charge. I'll have 100% go down to 99% or I'll start off at 99% and in the morning, wake up to see its at 98%.

Also, I recently downloaded the Deep Sleep widget and tried it out. Going into Deep Sleep actually preserved my battery charge at where it was.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mouse Often Loses Connection On IMac

Feb 18, 2012

I use my iMac for business. So even if the mouse loses connection once a day, that it 1 time too many. Some days it loses connection 2 to 3 times a day. When it does this, I go into system prefs/mouse and it says no mouse found. Sometimes it will find my mouse, then it after searching for a minute or 2, goes back to no mouse found and searching.

Sometimes it finds the mouse and sometimes it does not. Right now, I am using a hard wired mouse. Its been about 5 minutes and its still not finding my apple mouse. In fact, this all started after I replaced the original batteries. The mouse was working flawlessly up until that point. Its a brand new 27" IMac I got Christmas 2011, so its running Lion.

MacBook Pro :: Loses Wireless Connection When Asleep

Apr 15, 2012

My 2011 Macbook pro i7 has a chronic problem: as soon as it goes to sleep, the wireless connection is lost, and has to be manually coerced back to the computer by turning the wireless off, waiting several seconds, turning it back on again, and waiting for it to find the router again. It finds the router in a few more seconds, then everything is OK until it goes to sleep again.

A real pain in the butt, and shouldn't be a problem on a supposedly high end computer.

OS X Mavericks :: MacBook Pro Loses And Finds Printer?

Jun 4, 2014

I first installed Mavericks a couple weeks ago, onto a refurbed MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, then used Migration Assistant to move data from and old MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. The first couple of days, things printed normally. Then suddenly, while the laptop 'saw' the printer, it wouldn't print to it, and said I needed to install printing software. I uninstalled and reinstalled printer driversfor over an hour, finally gave up, and did the print job from another Mac.

A few days later, I printed something from the new Mac, just like normal. Things were fine, until today. Again, it won't send data to the printer and says I need to install the software. Well I don't, obviously.

Besides the laptop running Mavericks, the printer in question is a Canon MP560, which still communicates fine with 2 Macs running Snow Leopard, and Windows 7 running in Parallels. It is networked into my wifi running off an Airport Extreme.

On the side, I also have the unsolvable Mav issue with the Wi-Fi disconnecting everytime it wakes from sleep unless I shutt off Bluetooth, not sure if that has anything to do with  this issue or not.

OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
