View 4 Replies View RelatedI have accidentally deleted Utilities/Terminal application By searching I have found that it may be possible to restore Terminal using Pacifist app. But there is a problem, because I don't have my CD/DVD now. I would appreciate if someone could place Terminal on the web that I could download it, or send me it in email. My OSX version is 10.5.8 (but I think it doesn't matter when considering Terminal app).
EDIT: Unfortunately it probably depends on OS version. Terminal from 10.6.2 doesn't work on 10.5.8. If someone has 10.5 MacOS version
-Import files one at a time into 3rd party application using Automator. Challenge: -The application has no way to program a key command for edit > insert > file (that I could find)Failed tries with Automator:Recorded a "watch me do" sequence using the mouse. Sometimes it works and sometimes it glitches badly; the cursor moves very slowly in places I never recorded and the script runs for several minutes until I press the restart button. I believe that nothing changes on the machine between attempts - very peculiar.Recorded a "watch me do" sequence using 'control' + 'function' + 'f2' to highlight the apple in the menu bar at the top of the screen then navigated to edit > insert > file using the arrow keys. Unfortunately it doesn't work when run. In the workflow,"'control' + 'function' + 'f2'" is shown as"'control' + '(a symbol I don't know - see attached screenshot line 1 of the workflow)'"The arrow keys pressed are then not recognized at all. (Line 2 in the workflow is from pressing return.)A seemingly simple task is really perplexing me. I'm sure there's a simple solution though.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought myself a Macbook Pro 13-inch model and I've been loving it so far. One thing that really bugs me is how bad the menu navigation is in OS X. I just read this on Macrumors and the only way to access menu from keyboard is by using ctrl+F2 key for which I have to press ctrl+fn+f2 key since F2 is a secondary function. Also, there is no way of going directly to the middle of the menu by keyboard shortcuts, right? If that is true, Mac OS X is still not polished enough for laptops. is there are a better way to control the menu items?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAnybody see this before? I opened up Terminal.app and the window is completely blank. There is nothing in it whatsoever. Looks as if bash never started. The title bar simply says "Terminal — login — 80x24". I can type whatever I want in the Terminal window like it's a text document and nothing happens. If I restart the computer, this seems to fix the problem, but it seems to only be a temporary fix as the issue happens again soon after.

I remember seeing keyboard shortcuts such as Cmd-F2 that would allow access of the Application Menu. However, this does not work for me.
I have set the fn key to not be needed for function key access. That is, if I press f10, it acts as f10 rather than "mute."
How do I access the Application menu from the keyboard?
how do i access the boot menu on a non-intel mac? i thought it was option and D but that doesn't seem to work.
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to create a bootable backup of my Macintosh HD on a LaCie 500GB USB external HDD which is 2-3 years old. I formatted the drive with a GUID partition table scheme, with the volume formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which I believe is the correct setup.
However, when I try to boot from the external HDD by holding down Option key during startup, I do not get the boot menu, instead the computer freezes at a blank grey screen and doesn't boot anything. If I remove the USB drive and do the same, the boot menu appears with Macintosh HD as the only choice (as would be expected).

I recently downloaded Quicksilver. Fantastic program! I'm looking for one similar that offers a quick-launch function and a wide option of search capabilities. For example, I would activate the program by hotkey (like Quicksilver), then search a word/phrase (like "biology," "Africa," "bill of rights," etc.) The program would then give a definition, synonyms, wikipedia entries, about.com entries, etc. based on that term. I know there are widgets that do similar tasks, but not one that is collective/expansive, nor one as quick as an application like Quicksilver.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony HDR-HC&. When I download the movie to IMovie speed of horses looks normal (as in the same as real life) I then edit the imported video and export the final version. When I play that video the horses look like they have been speeded up. I need to be able to have them moving at the same speed as when the movie was recorded. Anyone know what is happening and how I prevent the tempo from increasing by exporting the movie so other people can see it? This does not happen if I export to full version however that version is useless for sending to other people and will not even fit on a DVD to send in the mail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a multitasker, like many others out there. When I surf I like having many tabs open in my browser. My browser of choice is Firefox due to one single reason: Firefox allows quick switching between tabs using CMD + # (nr.). If I want to jump to the fifth tab in Firefox I simply press CMD + 5.
In Safari this key combination opens the fifth bookmark in my bookmark bar.
Question:
Is there a way to "quick switch" between tabs in Safari other than CMD + SHIFT + ARROW LEFT/RIGHT (which gets stuck in text field etc.)?
Safari is otherwise quicker than Firefox on my Mac, so the decision to only run Safari would be obvious if it wasn't for this small thing.
Does anyone have a good solution out there?
So I used to love to go to the iTunes store, click the Top Charts Singles & then sort by music genre and download all the new rock songs. Is there any way to sort the top 200 songs by genre anymore?
View 2 Replies View RelatedBack in the days I used a PC, I used to be able to assign custom quick phrases (like "Sincerely, Emily") as a keyboard shortcut. For instance I'd assign my phrase to F3 or something...and then voila!!! I could insert commonly typed phrases into my emails or word processing. SO NICE! And I miss that. Anyone seen this feature in Mac Mail?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Symantec Backup Agent on our mac osx server. I start the agent in the terminal (./agent.be). It returns a notification that it started the service, however, it doesn't return to the prompt. Closing the terminal gives a warning that the process will be closed if the terminal is closed. Closing it does kill the process. Ctrl+c to return to the prompt also kills the process. So it's as if once the process is started in the terminal, nothing can be altered.
I am not much of a mac guy so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Anyone have any advice on how to handle this so the process is ALWAYS running?
I'm on a standard user account and I would really like to install icalbuddy which is a terminal app. When I install apps normally I simply have to provide a admin name and pw, but this doesn't work when it is a terminal app because it requires that the 'su' command be run.
So I thought that I could run terminal as admin through 'su - admin' and then install. But of course the admin account doesn't have access to the user folder where the installer is located. I just can't win.
