I'm trying to do something in terminal, and it asks for my password. I press a letter on my keyboard, and nothing appears. I am in the right window and everything, terminal just doesn't react to my typing. However, when I click enter, it says 'Sorry,try again'. So it does react to the enter key.
I need to change the local hosts and I'm using the sudo command. However, I'm unable to type my password when I'm asked to do so. I start typing and nothing comes out on the screen.Â
*ADDITIONAL INFO - I'm using Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) on MacBook Pro.
When i am supposed to type my password in the terminal, so i can uninstall an addons, i can't write... I can press enter, and it jump down a line, but when i write there, it pop up: Sorry wrong password Try again. What shall i do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAnybody see this before? I opened up Terminal.app and the window is completely blank. There is nothing in it whatsoever. Looks as if bash never started. The title bar simply says "Terminal — login — 80x24". I can type whatever I want in the Terminal window like it's a text document and nothing happens. If I restart the computer, this seems to fix the problem, but it seems to only be a temporary fix as the issue happens again soon after.

If I just leave it blank like at login, it says the password is incorrect. I have to do is set up a password use it in Terminal then I remove it afterwards. This is very annoying. Is there any way that I can do this without having to set the password every time?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm on a standard user account and I would really like to install icalbuddy which is a terminal app. When I install apps normally I simply have to provide a admin name and pw, but this doesn't work when it is a terminal app because it requires that the 'su' command be run.
So I thought that I could run terminal as admin through 'su - admin' and then install. But of course the admin account doesn't have access to the user folder where the installer is located. I just can't win.
I am trying to uninstall Virex 7.5. I have got the Terminal uninstall command which opens Terminal. So far, so good. However, Terminal is asking me for my admin password but it's not allowing me to enter it. The cursor is not blinking it's just a solid black oblong - just bl**dy sitting there! Absolutely no response to any key except the enter key - then terminal helpfully says, 'Sorry, try again' What's going on? I just wanna get rid of Virex!!!

Well I do not actually have a password set so usually I just hit enter with it blank but when I do that in Terminal it says sorry wrong password or something until I hit the 3rd try and it boots me.

I get prompted for a password. I need to add this to a Perl script that I'm writing for myself and need to know if there is anyway i can accomplish shutting down the Mac without having to provide my Password.
I'm running Symantec Backup Agent on our mac osx server. I start the agent in the terminal (./agent.be). It returns a notification that it started the service, however, it doesn't return to the prompt. Closing the terminal gives a warning that the process will be closed if the terminal is closed. Closing it does kill the process. Ctrl+c to return to the prompt also kills the process. So it's as if once the process is started in the terminal, nothing can be altered.
I am not much of a mac guy so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Anyone have any advice on how to handle this so the process is ALWAYS running?
I was using Terminal in my MacBook Pro to check if it was infected with the flashback Trojan but all results were negative. After confirming that I was not infected I typed the word "clear" and then the word "exit" before quitting terminal. Is this the appropriate procedure to close the terminal in OSX? Or it is an overkill? Will these commands affect the functionality of the command line in the future?

I'm wanting to permanently silence the startup chime. After entering the requisite command line, the administrator's password is requested. I don't have a pw on the computer so the response is "try again." Do I create a pw just for chits-0and-giggles?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI inherited a G5 from a colleague who left the department however I was not given a firmware password. So now I cannot re-install the OS OR work in terminal. I have tried the remove RAM and then reset PRAM. I have tried booting off disk but that is locked. I have tried replacing HD with new one but cannot boot off disk to install onto it. What is left for me to try to get this working and now the person is not available to just tell me what password is, they left months ago.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi am newbie and a migrant to OSX from windows. Previously i used putty.exe. It is straight forward process, all i have to do is type 192.168.72.137 port 22 on putty.exe to freebsd ssh server.
How can i do it with OSX terminal? I have used angry IP scanner on osx and that ip isnt there (possible osx firewall). Also all my other computers failed to get ping response from osx.
When I press the up or down arrows, I get this in the terminal:
Up arrow: ^[[D
Down arrow: ^[[C
Anybody know what to do so that I can use those keys to scroll in history?

View 17 Replies View RelatedMy macbook 2006 recently would not boot properly. By that i mean it takes about a good 5 minutes to boot to a messed up looking desktop.
Before i restore the system i need to get some files off of the machine. (The gui side freezes when i try to drag and drop).
I can boot into single use mode and use terminal but i do not know how to do the command mv /documents...etc but i don't know what drive my usb stick is or that it is mounted.
I am trying to do research on how to fix my current problem of not being able to open my terminal window. When attempting to do so I get the following error message:Â

I looked at some previous posts and some people said download iterm2 and put the following command: sudo chsh -s /bin/bash my_username. After this enter password and it should be fixed. However when doing that I get the following response: SC is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.Â
Couple of things, firstly SC (which is me) is the administrator to this computer (this is my computer and there are no other users on it).Â

While messing around with iPhoto and Time Machine, I ended up in the following situation. When trying to open Pictures on the sidebar of Finder, a Terminal shell pops up on the screen. Similarly, if I try to open Pictures on a Time Machine screen, I get the message "Open with Terminal" Now, I don't know how to use Terminal. How can I come back to the anterior situation where I could open Picture jut by a click?

I just installed microsoft word....it is a little slow...i.e. the typing shows up a split second after i type, instead of instantaneous...I think because of the spelling/grammar checking. anyone else witness this?

Why is it mentioning "lizzie-pc" in the window? That is the computer name assigned to my mum's laptop, which is hibernating in the next room. 'tejaykay' is my Mac's short name.
