I have accidentally deleted Utilities/Terminal application By searching I have found that it may be possible to restore Terminal using Pacifist app. But there is a problem, because I don't have my CD/DVD now. I would appreciate if someone could place Terminal on the web that I could download it, or send me it in email. My OSX version is 10.5.8 (but I think it doesn't matter when considering Terminal app).
EDIT: Unfortunately it probably depends on OS version. Terminal from 10.6.2 doesn't work on 10.5.8. If someone has 10.5 MacOS version
I have an external HD, from an old 15" PB, connected via USB to my G5 (2.3). How can I access it thru the terminal? When I issue an ls command for items on the desktop, the HD doesn't appear, although it does appear as an icon on the desktop. I'd like to retrieve some files on there that are .Trash.
I was using Terminal to install a 'Minecraft Mod' and soon as the code was typed in, my desktop flashed and all the files from there was deleted. I went to Application Support to check something straight after and the whole directory of there had been deleted also. None of my music or pictures were deleted, I'm confused. How to retrieve all my files back again, I had some really important work on the Desktop.
I think my 20" G5 iMac ( the model before the integrated iSight) may have what amounts to a terminal graphic card problem. It was working perfectly until suddenly an odd red pattern made up of what looks oddly like thousands of tiny i-ching symbols overlayed over the actual desktop. I have tried rebooting from the CD which suggests it isn't a software issue, and since I understand the graphics card is part of the logic board, it's probably not worth replacing it financially.
I don't know when started to happen, but when I open a window of Finder, and click in the left sidebar to see what is in Desktop, it didn't show in the right panel, it open a Terminal window. If I click Applications, or Music, it works good, but not with Desktop. I already installed Lion again 3 times, but when restoring from Time Machine, it starts to doing that.
I have just downloaded skype for the first time. I do not make many downloads. The problem is the application icon, appears in the side bar under places. I do not want it to be there. I'd rather it showed in applications or on my doc. How do i move it? Everytime I try to highlight it to drag it, it just opens up!!
I have two old files in my finder sidebar that I can't delete . I am running in Lion. when I restart in 10.6.8 they are gone. but when I go back to Lion, they are still there and I cannot move them to trash. I get error code 8058 when I try to move to trash. i have tried holding the command button, and I cannot find any list in the library that says com.apple.finder.plist.
My mail icon on the sidebar has a red circle with #'s in it even though I have read all of the mail. How do I get rid of it so it only turns up red when I have new mail?
-a Mac Pro with 3 screens, from which I use 6 "Spaces" with various projects on each one...
-a 13" macbook pro
From within my local wireless network, I would like to be able to access individual space's screens from my laptop. Or at the very least, be able to easily work on a certain app/window on my desktop from my laptop.
I have a Mac Pro desktop quad core and a macbook pro 17". I don't like having two computers. I had to buy a laptop because I have to travel back and forth between two places. I love my desktop but there is no way that I can carry it with me daily. I am probably gonna sell my mac pro. The problem is, I have two secondary drives inside. a 500gb and a 1.5tb drive. I need access to these and I really dont want to put them in external enclosures cause it would be really slow. I was thinking about making a server? Would that be the solution?
I have a strange problem, which I don't seem to be able to properly troubleshoot, even with searching the 6U with and without our beloved Free Porn.
Btw, I solved the problem in between writing this post, but if anyone wants to share some light onto the situation, I invite you to read the following, as I am still flabbergasted by it and want to know, why I can't do what I want to do as laid out in the section below.
I'm running a macbook pro with tiger OSX. I wanted to transfer a folder of pictures into another one (around 3000 pictures, I'm not very organized and want to start) so I selected all the pictures and went to drag them into a new folder. I missed at put them to the desktop...
My desktop started rapidly filling up with pictures and even when I clicked the X to stop the transfer it kept going. My computer froze up and I powered it down. Once I turned it back on my desktop stayed blank. No Mac harddrive, no pictures, it's running really slowly and I cannot click anything from the top bar (finder, file, folder etc...)
I clicked the shortcut to go to change the desktop background and when I highlight the folder "desktop" all of my pictures show up in a massive list and I can change my desktop background to any one of them! So my question here is is there any way I can restore my computer to a day ago (like on a pc) so I can go back and try again?
Or, since I am seeing them in this folder and its showing they are on my desktop (even though I can't see them) is there a shortcut I can press to open up my harddrive so I can see all of the files apparently on the desktop and then just transfer them into a folder?
All I can do at this point is run applications from my dock and I can't access anything!
OS 10.5 and she suddenly lost the desktop. All blue. Classic comes up but can't be opened. She can access the web. But nothing else. She is most concerned about losing her files, not all of which were backed up.
My boss is going on a two week long tour, starting tomorrow, with her MacBook Air and I wanted to be able to assist her should she need any technical help on the go.
The only options I know for Remote Desktop Access are ChickenVNC and Remote Desktop from Apple, but both are a bit complicated depending on the connection you are using. Also, she wouldn't understand how to find her specific IP address, when on a hotel Wifi connection.
I was wondering if any of you have a suggestion for software that is extremely simple to use and would allow me to assist her through screen control, by having her simply opening and/or logging into the program.
I want to know if I can access/control my Mac Mini (2011)from my iPad2. Is this something that I can do with with software that was supplied or do I need a app?
Anybody see this before? I opened up Terminal.app and the window is completely blank. There is nothing in it whatsoever. Looks as if bash never started. The title bar simply says "Terminal — login — 80x24". I can type whatever I want in the Terminal window like it's a text document and nothing happens. If I restart the computer, this seems to fix the problem, but it seems to only be a temporary fix as the issue happens again soon after.
I'm trying to do something in terminal, and it asks for my password. I press a letter on my keyboard, and nothing appears. I am in the right window and everything, terminal just doesn't react to my typing. However, when I click enter, it says 'Sorry, try again'. So it does react to the enter key.
i just got a mac and am trying to figure out how to access a remote desktop connection for my work. on a pc, i went to the start menu, communication, and there was an option called 'remote desktop connection.'
when i clicked on that, microsoft outlook opened and there was a box for the ip address at my work. i filled in the ip and then i logged in with my work username and password.
How do I add iphoto to my desk top for easier access? I'm 28 and this is my first computer I'm sure it's the easiest thing to do. I just cant figure it out.
I'm running Symantec Backup Agent on our mac osx server. I start the agent in the terminal (./agent.be). It returns a notification that it started the service, however, it doesn't return to the prompt. Closing the terminal gives a warning that the process will be closed if the terminal is closed. Closing it does kill the process. Ctrl+c to return to the prompt also kills the process. So it's as if once the process is started in the terminal, nothing can be altered.
I am not much of a mac guy so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Anyone have any advice on how to handle this so the process is ALWAYS running?
I was looking for a remote desktop solution that would allow me to access my OS X iMac from my PC laptop that can run either Windows 7 or Ubuntu. I would prefer the solution to be free but I am open to every software idea and I have no preference between accessing OS X from Windows 7 or Ubuntu.
So I just received my Nehalem Mac Pro today, and I successfully installed three new hard drives in it, and I can access all four of my drives in Finder, but NONE of them (including the Boot Drive that came with the computer) are showing up on the desktop! I can't figure out why so I thought I'd ask here.
Oddly enough, my Firewire 800 Drive shows up on the desktop. Anyone have any ideas why this would happen? And how to fix it?
For some reason the Mac terminal utility has suddenly started to pop up every time I attempt to down load a program. This has never happened before and I am not sure how to make the changes so this does not happen.
The download desktop icon went up in smoke and I can't get it back...before when I downloaded a file from email I could go on my tool bar and access the downloads...now I can only get them in finder. How can I get the download file icon back?
