Applications :: IChat Automatically Opens On Startup / Logged In At 2 Different Locations?
May 7, 2009
My iChat is automatically opening up on startup when I turn on my computer. I do not have the "Open at Login" optiona checked so I know it isn't that. Every time I turn on my computer, iChat opens and logs on and says I'm logged in at 2 different locations even though I know that I am not. I hit 1 to log off the other locations anyways.
Every time I open a document in word, the elements gallery automatically opens. I don't use this feature. Anyone know how to turn it off? I tried finding a way in preferences but didn't see anything.
is there a way to switch network settings automatically because of whether or not I am connected to a certain (non-WiFi) LAN? I have to manually set the IP address and such when I am at work, but would like to have DHCP at all other times. The Location Managers I found can do this only on the basis on whether or not certain WiFi networks are found. However, there is no WiFi at work - so I am looking for a program that detects this specific LAN as soon as I plug in the ethernet cable and then sets a specific location. And vice versa: if I unplug the cable, I want to return to the other location...
I know there is something simple Im overlooking, but I cant figure out what it is. There is a website (subscription) that my wife likes to go to watch streaming movies and TV. When she logs into our iMac, goes to the website, and clicks on a movie to watch, the movie opens in the websites own movie player. When Im logged into our iMac under my user name, go to the same website and click on the same movie, QuickTime launches and plays the video in a separate QT player. The QT and Safari preferences are set the same when either of us are logged in, so why when I log in do movies play in QT, and when my wife log in they play in the websites movie player? Is there something other than preferences that may be set different? What other settings should I be comparing? BTW, my account is the Administrator account.
So every time I finish watching a movie or TV show on computer and begin using my mouse/keyboard, I get an iChat alert asking if it wants to change my status back to "Available". How come iChat is automatically setting my status as Away and how do I make it so it doesn't do this anymore.
I have been using Hotspot Shield for a few years now, but the most recent update is for some reason causing it to automatically launch at startup (it has the Hotspot Shield logo in the menu bar).
I have tried looking at the the Startup Items list in System Preferences and looking at the preferences within the application itself. I cannot seem to figure out how to prevent it from launching automatically.
Everytime I pop in my USB drive, iPhoto opens.. (of course, because it wants to import pictures. Which might not be what I want to do)Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
Suddenly everytime I open Safari, it opens along with a new desktop. So I can't put an application on top of it since the app would appear on the first desktop, get what I mean? So I can't chat with iChat while watching youtube, for example. How to open Safari on the first desktop instead?
This just started in the last week or two, but my itunes will be completely closed, and suddenly it opens and play a certain mp3 file, then the next then one more. This isn't any particular playlist or anything. The files are probably all in my download folder and it just goes in order. This happens many times per day. Often times my computer was actually asleep and it wakes it to play these files.
Looking at my console log, I get the following two things right when it happens. 2/3/12 8:48:09.366 AM [0x0-0x1f11f1].com.apple.iTunes: Returning 0x0. Advertising wake service for libraryIdentifier "EA6D19640E6DBDE0". 2/3/12 8:48:20.346 AM [0x0-0x1f11f1].com.apple.iTunes: Version from driver for Certificates 1
So I'm assuming whatever is happening has to do with these log items. How to stop this? It's very bothersome when I'm in the middle of a business call, etc. I need to keep my MBP volume up as well because I have various alerts I need to hear.
This is probably simple since it just started happening one day. When I turn my computer on, the powerpoint opens up. I can't find where to stop this, and I don't know what started it.
Can't get TERMINAL to stop opening on startup. Nothing shows in startupitems for this user.I've closed (unchecked open at re-login) and it keeps coming back.
I've just discovered something in my Library, and I don't know whether I have a problem, or if I should care . . . ;^)
I have 16 songs showing in iTunes 10.0.1 from a 2-disk release called "Cafe del Mar Vol 13" - all songs play fine, and I have song and CD numbers for all songs, and each song has the box "Part of a compilation" checked.
In my main file system (same level as "Applications") is a folder called "iTunes Music", and in that is "Compilations" - further down inside that is "Cafe del Mar Vol 13" but it only has 11 of the 16 songs.[/iTunes Music/Compilations/Cafe del Mar Vol 13]
At the same level as "Compilations" is "iTunes Song Files" and in that is "Music" and inside that is another "Compilations" folder, and another "Cafe del Mar Vol 13" folder. This only has 13 of the 16 songs, and one is a duplicate. [/iTunes Music/iTunes Song Files/Music/Compilations/Cafe del Mar Vol 13]
Which of these is the "correct" Compilations folder? If I compare the files in each folder, I have all 16 songs that are displayed in iTunes, just not all in one folder. Should I be worried?
And should I bother with trying to "fix" either of these folders so they have the correct collection of 16 songs? If I move files around, will iTunes get confused?
Other possibly useful bits of info: 1) I have almost 10,000 songs; 2) I use the iVolume app to set the same playback volume level; and 3) all songs have been synching fine with my iPod Touch.
I have downloaded and saved several garage ban lessons onto my macbook pro... which I use mainly at work. I would like to copy the lessons onto my Mac Mini which I use at home...
I cannot seem to find the locations of the lesson files? any ideas how I can acheive this?
I've got a 500gb internal drive for my iMac (250gb to XP and OSX), but my iTunes library takes up 300gb. 50gb of that is music. What I'd like to do is have my music on my internal drive and keep my videos on the external, which would be powered off (it's rather noisy and doesn't have an auto-power down like my other, smaller HDD's).
so here's the deal. I have an 80GB drive in my MacBook, which is currently where my iTunes lib resides.
I also have a 250GB external drive. What I want to do is keep my music on my laptop, but store movies and TV shows on my external drive, yet still be able to access them along with my music... know what I'm saying?
Starting a few days ago when I double click a folder on the desktop it no longer opens. Instead, I am taken to a new desktop window that shows the folder clicked plus all other items on the desktop. How do I restore the double click to open the folder? I have tried resetting the double click speed with no results.Â
I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, been running Lion since December. Until last week had no problems. There have been no changes made to the computer, no software added or removed. All of a sudden, when I turn the computer on, audio automatically goes to the speakers on my 24" Cinema Display. When I go into System Preferences I can easily switch it back to my speakers, but it defaults my speakers to full volume, and just to turn the volume down fills the entire house with the 'Apple volume change' sound, until I get it to a reasonable level. So while I have this backwards fix for it, I kind of resent that I have to do all that before I can even get to work on the computer. I tried deleting the plists in Macintosh HD < Library < Preferences < Audio, but when I restart they're back where they were and the audio's going straight to the display again.
Info: Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Early 2008, 8 core, 32gbs RAM
I am running Snow Leopard on a new Power Mac which is part of a windows network. On the Windows server, there are a couple of shares that I would like the mac to use. I can manually connect to them and browse ok, but what I would really like to do is have them automatically load on startup and display on the desktop. I have tried connecting to the them and then dragging them into the login items, but on restart, they don't appear on the desktop.
My iChat refuses to open. Every time I click on it to open it it will not open at all and a window will come up saying "The application iChat quit unexpectedly". How can i get my iChat to open and is someone or something hacking into my computer?
I have recently bought a MacBook Pro. I installed Pages '09 and it was working well in the beginning. Soon, though, it began to give me trouble. Whenever I try to save a file and open it later, the file is opened as a blank document. This occurs with both pages and .doc files. Sometimes I can save the text in the file by using command+A and dragging the text over into text edit. But this does not always work.Recently, when I open the application, the template chooser appears but is blank.
