Nov 9, 2009My iChat refuses to open. Every time I click on it to open it it will not open at all and a window will come up saying "The application iChat quit unexpectedly". How can i get my iChat to open and is someone or something hacking into my computer?

Nov 27, 2009I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

Mar 3, 2008I am using ichat with my AIM account and it has worked fine. But yesterday it stopped logging me in. When I select available for my status I get a message saying "An unidentified AIM socket error has occurred". How do I fix this problem? I tried logging in using AIM on Windows Vista and it works fine so there is nothing wrong with my account. Also, I have deleted my aim account from ichat and re-addng it and I still get the same error.

Mar 19, 2009I am in the process of setting up iChat on my spousal unit's iMac. I've already created a Jabber account, using her gmail address. That seems to work fine. Now I'd like to add an AIM account. When I click on "Get an iChat Account..." in the Account Setup window,It was my understanding that this signup gets you an AIM account, but it from the first line on the page, it seems to assume that you're using .Mac (even more oddly, since .Mac doesn't actually exist any longer).What am I missing here? Aren't AIM, MobileMe and .Mac accounts the same for purposes of iChat?

Applications :: IChat Can Not Use Webcam?
May 14, 2009I have a MacBook with built in webcam, external webcam, and iChat. Next to everyone who has a Mac on iChat is the green box, but there is a phone icon rather than a video icon.
Video chats used to work, but suddenly they stopped. Clicking the green icon next to my name on top opens a box that days "My Build-in iSight" and I can see myself in that webcam, but can not make video chats. How can I fix this?

Apr 2, 2010I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2 and I think that was working in the past: I used to be able to chat with my MSN contacts. Now I get this error. iChat can't communicate with the jabber account "@hotmail". The operation couldn't be completed. Operation timed out. I checked my password, and it is correct. I can check my Hotmail emails using those credentials. I didn't change the server settings as well.

Oct 20, 2010my girlfriend and I live in different cities and our main way of communication is using iChats Video Chat. Before I moved I was on Comcast cable internet and used a Microsoft base station as my wifi router. We never had a problem with connecting to our video chats. She is on Optimum optonline cable internet with a netgear router. Now I have moved in to another place with a friend and we just got Embarq DSL, I am using their 660R router into an older linksys router my roommate had. Now we can never connect to video chat. We alway get the communication error when we try. I even tried hooking my base station up but for some reason I see the wifi but the internet never works for me then. If anyone has any insight on what I can maybe do would be great. I have tried apples test AIM names appleu3test01, 02 and 03. They work for me and I get mac's commercial streaming to me.

Nov 16, 2010Since 2 days ICQ doesn't work together with iChat anymore. All I get is the prompt for entering the password. Password is correct and ICQ still works with Adium or ICQ2GO. iChat probably stopped working after I installed the latest security patch for MacOS Leopard.
Deleting the ICQ account in iChat and adding it again doesn't work. Neither does deleting the AIM.plist or changing the server to [URL] like it was suggested at the Apple discussion board.

Apr 24, 2007Alright, this iChat mulitperson videoconferencing has me stumped. The first time I tried it out, I had the video conference running with one person and I just double clicked the video camera icon of another buddy online. The video window changed to both people with my video feed between and below them. I closed the conference, but now when I try it again I just get a message saying one of my buddies can't do multiperson conferencing. What's going on? I would think it was firewall settings or something, but I HAD IT WORKING! I didn't change anything either.

Oct 24, 2007Ive been calling comcast over and over telling them that they have been throttling my internet's upload speed to the mid 40kbps range and they tell me no they havent. Finally they have been exposed in the past week, but they claim it is only to bit torrent traffic. This is not the case. I cant video chat for more than a minute or two before my internet gets throttled and the other person cant see me. The same goes for file transfers to a remote server for my graphic design stuff. Does anyone know a work around for this? Maybe changing the outgoing ports for iChat?
