Every time I open a document in word, the elements gallery automatically opens. I don't use this feature. Anyone know how to turn it off? I tried finding a way in preferences but didn't see anything.

Spotlight opens Microsoft Word document underneath an already open document

I am using Word for Mac on my Macbook Pro with Lion. Everytime I open a particular document in Word, the view shows Markups, which is really distracting. I can go to View, and get rid of the markup view, but then it shows up again each time I open the document.Â
Also, each time I open Word, every document I have worked on in the last few months opens, too. I close each document individually, using File - Close, which I thought would take care of it. But it doesn't, and all these documents open, instead of just the one document I want open.Â

Every time that i receive a word document that has inside a powerpoint presentation and i double click it i get the message: word can not edit the microsoft powerpoint 97-2003 presentation. Also i have a CD that has some adobe and word documents attached to a powerpoint presentation and when i click on them i get a message that the path/object could not be found. But poth these document and CD when i put them in a PC they open without any problems.

What I'm noticing now is that when I open a document in Preview, it also opens the last doc I viewed at the same time..If I wanted to see the old doc I would've double clicked it.I use Preview all the time.There is no Preference to disable this strange behavoir.

I'm running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I was instructed to go to the "Preferences" folder and delete com.Microsoft.Word.plist. When I delete that file, MS Word starts working again for about a couple minutes and then goes back to not working again. How can I fix this? This has been happening on and off for ages, from half a year to a year. I have been trying to open a document for 4 hours now, it opens it and then freezes, i then have to force quit it and start over again. Some times i have left it for a while others i quit it after it stops responding. It is getting ridiculous now, i have also searched for ages on the internet, some problems are unrelated some seem related but the fixes don't work, I need to get word to stop doing this.Â
I thought maybe it was because it keeps opening all my previous documents that I had open, i unchecked the box so it doesn't reopen windows and it still freezes but on this document instead. I do not have a clue what to do and I urgently need access to these documents, the documents aren't damaged, i was working on them before, and had this problem with many other documents that also weren't damaged. What should I do?

Every time I try to open an existing document or save a new one Microsoft word crashes. I am able to start a new document but if I try to save it all of the action/editing buttons fade/unhighlight (save, print, quit, copy paste, etc) and I am ubable to do anything. However, most of the buttons in view, history, bookmarks, tools, window & help still work.Then I have to force quit because the option to quit is no longer available.

My iChat is automatically opening up on startup when I turn on my computer. I do not have the "Open at Login" optiona checked so I know it isn't that. Every time I turn on my computer, iChat opens and logs on and says I'm logged in at 2 different locations even though I know that I am not. I hit 1 to log off the other locations anyways.

The only way I have to do it 'till now is to manually copy paste each link from word pages to safari tabs. Is there any way to automate this repetitive task? Either by selecting all links of word and somehow opening them, or using osx automator? I 've not used automator before, I do not know if this task can be automated. View 2 Replies View Relatedi just basically screwed it up. When i started writing it i first saved in .odt and later i saved it in .txt and unicode format. I thought everything's gonna be fine so i deleted the .odt files and had cleared the trash bin but that's where the nightmare began.
I went to the printing shop to get the essays to be printed but their windows computer couldn't "read" the chinese characters and it all turns out as "?" sign. I thought it was only a windows problem but when i went back to open it in my MBP, it's all "?" too. So i quickly installed a data recover program and i am just praying that i can recover the .odt files I would be dead if my essays are totally lost. Anyway, the question is: What extension is best to save a Chinese word document? AND, I just deleted the .odt files yesterday, do you think there's still a chance for it to be recovered?
My mother is working on an important document with Word 2004, and it's fairly big at ~100 pages. The problem, is that people have sent through their own sections from their PC versions of Word, and their sections have [Type text] in the footer area. We cannot find a way to remove this text, and it doesn't actually show up when we reveal the footer. It prints this on every page, so we really need to find a way to get rid of it!
