When I log in using iChat I have my non-Google email in the username field and location set as iChat. But I immediately get the message below. Ideas? I would like to not sign up for a Gmail account just to get access to GTalk.

Mar 8, 2009I am studying for a year in South Africa and using internet behind a college proxy. Beyond the annoyances of only having 300 MB/month of internet, I am especially frustrated because I can't use skype, ichat, or google talk to stay in touch with people back home. I've tried everything; With skype, i downloaded authoxy, which corrects for the fact that skype takes its proxy settings from the network settings (I'm not a computer expert so I may have that wrong, but regardless, I followed the directions and tinkered with it some more and it failed). Then I downloaded the beta version of the latest skype, per customer support directions, and still no luck--i can't even sign on.
The same goes for iChat. Even google talk, which operates within the browser, will only allow text chat. When I try voice or video, it fails. None of this happens to students with a pc.

Apr 13, 2007I had a Sony Ericsson W550i till today and I was immensely impressed by the fact that I could use it as an external drive or a modem and could synchronise my contact list and calendar to it without using any external software. However, the phone did not have EDGE, so I bought a Nokia 6300 today. But to my disappointment, it seems that it is impossible to either synchronise the phone with my Mac or use it as a modem. iSync, even in its latest version, does not support my phone and I just cannot connect to the Internet using it.

Mar 12, 2010We have a small ethernet network and need to bring files from projects done on older macs running OS9 into new macs running OSX. All machines can "see" the printers, and other machines running same OS, but we haven't been able to get them to talk to computers that are on different OS. The older machines are different laptops running the latest software they are capable of running - OS9.The newer machines are laptops and desktops running Tiger and Leopard.
Is there any way to get them to talk to one another? Saving to floppies or zipdrives and then burning to cds would be very tedious.

MacBook Air :: How To Persuade To Talk HDMI To Sharp Aquos TV
Mar 19, 2012I have a 2011-model 60-inch Sharp Aquos TV and I'm trying to connect my MacBook Air to it via HDMI. The two devices seem to be aware of each other because the MacBook Air resets its display when I plug in the cable; however, there is no picture on the TV. It's just black. I know that it's some kind of incomatibility problem rather than somethign broken because (a) it doess exatly the same thing with two different MacBooks, different adapters, different cables; and (b) it works fine with other computers (Windows). I've tried jiggling all posible settings through System Preferences (there aren't many though).
So here's the thing: is there some under-the-hood way I can jiggle with the settings of the signal the MacBook is sending out to the TV, to try to give it a signal it recognizes? I mean, simple-mindedly, maybe it's sending a refresh rate that the TV doesn't like or somethign like that - but System Preferences doesn't give me a way of changing that.

I have more than one email account set up on Mail and the strangest thing happens and I can't find out how to stop it.
Here is the problem:
- I have 2 accounts, 'Account A' is for my partner & 'Account B' is for me.
- Someone sends an email to 'Account A' (my partner) and CCs 'Account B' (me) into the same eMail.
- If I click reply from 'Account B' it sends the eMail from 'Account A' which is my partner, when it should be from me.
I have worked out that this is because 'Account A' was originally sent the eMail in The 'To' field as opposed to the 'CC' field in composing the reply eMail. I know that I can manually change the 'From' field every time when replying to an eMail but it becomes an nuisance. I forget to do it when quickly replying as I consider Mail to reply from the account that I'm reading the email from.
I have gone to the compose section in the preferences and there is an option for changing this when composing a new email but nothing when replying.

Feb 7, 2005I'm a switcher so sorry if this is a dumb Q (and yes I searched first) but Entourage keeps getting the same emails from my POP account. I have it set to leave messages on the server for a few days (3 I think) before deleting b/c my Blackberry pings the account for emails and if I leave for a weekend I want the BB to find the emails.
But whether I sort the emails into folders, delete them from Entourage, or leave them in the inbox, Entourage retrieves them - again. And I then have to delete them all.
ALso somewhat strangely, it doesn't retrieve them every time it checks the POP account (which it does every minute), only every once in a while.

Jan 16, 2009I just have a question about moving iTunes music to a new computer.
Okay, I'm planning on getting a new iMac in September (It will be my first Mac) and I want to bring over some, but not all, of my iTunes library on my old PC to the Mac. I want to know if, after I move all the music I want to to my new computer, can I continue using the same iTunes account I did on my PC (It's my whole families account), but also get any songs anyone buys on the old computer to the Mac by just logging in? Also, is it possible to send all of the music I buy on the Mac to the PC by using the same account? The reason I want to share music is because my brother and I like a lot of the same music and I don't want to have to keep burning the songs he buys on a disc so I can put them on my Mac.
So my question is, can I use the same account I use on my PC on my Mac? And will any songs that are bought on the PC using the same account as the Mac automatically be on the Mac? I'm sorry if I'm not very clear, I just can't think of any way to explain this better.

Feb 19, 2009My daughter has just moved out and so now has her own internet and email address. Yesterday she was setting up all her new email addresses. Because she was having problems with setting up one of them, she deleted the old account even though it will still be active for another week or so and then recreated it. Now she cannot access any of her old emails from that account. The message she receives "This message from _____ has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." There are no emails left on the server and they are not on her online account either. She has some rather important emails in there. Is there anyway she can access them?

Apr 9, 2009on Monday, I received 2 email receipts from iTunes. Both were for a $50 iTunes gift card. I checked my bank account, and sure enough, I had 2 $50 drafts from my account.
I was out of town when it happened, but when I got home, I signed onto iTunes and checked my purchases...there they were. The thing is, no one was at home when it happened and my password is needed whenever I purchase anything. I have no idea how it happened!
I changed my password and emailed iTunes support. I chatted with them on Tuesday when they opened and they really didn't do anything but told me to call my credit card company. I called my bank and they sent me some fraud stuff so I can get my money back.
I did go back and check the cards and there's an email address on one of them...I guess to where the person was sending the cards to. Should I contact them? Apple finally sent me an email telling me to pretty much leave everything alone in case the police need to do an investigation.
I still don't know how this can happen. I'm very careful with what I do with my passwords.
