View 7 Repliesiphone has find my iphone and mobile me, but what about macbooks? are there any similar anti-theft apps(preferably free) that tracks macbook's wifi location and help track down the laptop?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWondering what kind of anti-theft software people are using since there is no way to use a physical cable lock on the MBA.
Also - anyone with software installed - can you post any experience with having to actually use it to get your mac back or the software companies support.
I was wondering if there are any certain types of anti-theft locks for the iMac which I can securely lock onto furniture out there?

I tried it out, pretty impressed with it so far.
Registered my laptop as 'stolen' and it snapped my picture, tracerouted my network, located me on google maps, and I also made it sound an alarm. Pretty good for free
The lack of a security slot to cable down the airbook is drving me nuts. I like to putter around in my local coffee house and leave my mb pro cabled to the table when I go to the head or wander off in a fog. I'm thinking of inventing my own security system -- or maybe having a machine shop drill a hole. or calling Steve and asking him why he created this problem in the first place.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile my eMac is in the shop (another long story I've told elsewhere here), I am using my work PC. I was working on a short story I had not yet saved in Microsoft Works Word Processor when it said it became unresponsive and had to close. I have been searching all over the computer for traces of this unsaved file.
Under C:/Windows/Prefetch there are files from around the time I lost the document and they are "PF" files. There is even one called WKSWP.EXE-25E36596 , which gives me hope it might be related to the file I was working on. When I open it in Notepad I get gobbly goop.
I attempted to change the username of my Tiger 10.4.11
However I forgot the consequences..
Amongst the essential missing files include:
* iTunes library
* Pictures
The main problem is, the memory indicates the files are still on the computer somewhere; instead of 298 GB I still have 240 GB.
with my G5 I need to get a new hard drive since the old one died. to format the new hard drive do I need a start up disk or a recovery disk.
Information:

Dual Core 2.0 2x 256 Ram
I'm on a 2008 model Mac Pro 8-core system for work. For whatever reason it doesn't have a recovery partition. I read that if I don't have a recovery partition, I can't make a recovery USB bootable drive....so how do I make one? And no, I cannot reinstall the OS on here, that would be beyond detrimental to what's going on here. (too many details to get into)
Alternatively, can I make one with my 10.8.5 MacbookPro at home and run it here on my Lion system?
I have a 13" 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo current gen. Macbook Pro. I was wondering if I can run Grand theft auto on my macbook pro (i do not care about quality/rendering, I just what to know if it will run). By the way, I have bootcamp running windows 7.

I have just made the mistake of replying to an email request from what I thought was my online bank - and stupidly gave out my log on information. I contacted my bank who confirmed this was a fraudulant email. Thankfully they have blocked my accounts. But I was told the fraudsters could have infected my computer with a virus - enabling them to get files from my hard drive when online.
I have an Intel core duo iMac with Leopard OS. Is there a way to check if anyone is accessing my files or block access when online?
I downloaded GTA San Andreas from the App Store. The game works fine. Only thing is I cannot seem to get the resolution to go higher than 800 x 600 x 32. Is there a reason for this? I am using a fairly new Macbook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.3. with a 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 processor. 8 GB ram. I am also using the higher resolution screen 1680 x 1050. However, when I go to the advanced game settings I cannot seem to make any changes to the resolution?

I have 205 files that were accidentally deleted from my computers hard drive. The files are visible in PodSalvage. Can any Macintosh genius, hackers etc. direct me to a freeware application or method to recover the files?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy boss accidentally deleted all the pics off of her digital camera's SD card and she's offering me $100 if I can retrieve them. There was an app I used a few years ago that was free to look at what pics it could recover, and then you paid to recover them but I can't remember what it was called.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just deleted one folder size of almost 5gb. Was full of personal videos. So they are not like small size of 10k pics. There were like 40 videos in total. What is the chance to recover them in good condition? And with which app. would happen best? I just downloaded 2 apps, stellarphoenix and Mac File Recovery. I started stellar and it is taking forever to search the hard drive. I tried the MFR for like 10 minutes it seemed a little faster but the videos and most of the files weren't in good shape.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently discovered this old OLD software that was supposedly leaps beyond it's competitors called spinrite. [URL]
It's probably old news for anyone who did any research on finding this type of software but this is my first time researching the matter and coming across this.
The problem is that this software is PC only it seems. I was wondering if there is an equivalent software that could do just the same for my Mac.
Or can this software already run on Mac considering that Mac is now intel based and can run Windows in bootcamp?
The website says that I could remove my HD and place it into a PC system, but I don't have a PC system so that's not an option for me.
There have been a number of laptop thefts at gun/knife point in my neighborhood recently. I'm backing up all my data frequently, but wouldn't want a thief to have access to my personal information like bank statements, personal pictures, etc, stored on my laptop. If I set "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver" in Security of System Preferences, does this really mean there's no way for somebody else to gain control apart from re-formatting the drive?
