MacBook Pro :: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas V 1.0.1 - Cannot Seem To Get The Resolution To Go Higher Than 800 X 600 X 32

Apr 25, 2012

I downloaded GTA San Andreas from the App Store. The game works fine. Only thing is I cannot seem to get the resolution to go higher than 800 x 600 x 32. Is there a reason for this? I am using a fairly new Macbook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.3. with a 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 processor. 8 GB ram. I am also using the higher resolution screen 1680 x 1050. However, when I go to the advanced game settings I cannot seem to make any changes to the resolution?

MacBook :: Setting Wallpaper With Higher Resolution

Oct 21, 2009

I have an aluminum Macbook Unibody 13" that I just picked up off craigslist and was wondering if anyone new what I can expand the memory to. It has 2 GB Ram in it right now, and it is the 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 250 GB Hard Drive. Also I am trying to download apple wallpapers for it, but when I set it as my wallpaper it doesn't look as clear on my background as it does in the preview, even when I copy and set the one with higher resolution. I must be doing something wrong, if you don't mind could someone take me through the steps of how to properly download and apply wallpapers, as your background?

MacBook Pro :: Higher Resolution Screen Matters?

Feb 3, 2010

Given that the computer scales images to fit the resolution of the screen. Why does having a higher resolution screen matter? I mean I can play 1080p video on a 13 inch MBP and it still looks good. Why do people complain so much about how intolerable the low screen resolution is on the MBPs. Apple must have some kind of magic because images and video look great to me. Take a 13 inch MBP, would the same 1440x900 sized picture look that much better if the native resolution was 1440x900? If the quality loss is so noticeable how has Apple been able to get away with shipping the product?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Getting Graphics In 10.7.3 Higher Resolution?

Feb 3, 2012

I just installed the 10.7.3? My "old" MacBook is a late 2008, 2.4Mhz, 8GbRAM. After instaling the new Lion, my 2nd monitor stopped working, so, before rushing after hardware problems, I connected it to my new MB (Pro 15" early 2011, 2.2Mhz, 16GbRAM) and it worked normally. So, back to the old one, I tried many drivers, etcs... after some time, I noted that the external monitor flicked many times with the "normal" image and turned black... I changed the 2nd monitor's resolution and it worked stable, so, now I can only use 1280X1024 instead of 1680X1050...

Windows On Mac :: Can't Get Higher Resolution Than 640 X 480 Running Xp Pro Via Bootcamp?

Apr 23, 2009

After booting to windows xp pro(sp2) via bootcamp the resolution setting slide bar on Nvidia control panel lets me adjust to a higher rez, but does not change the resolution physically at all. I do get the windows "keep this setting" pop up..I choose yes to humor it, but nothing changed in the first place.Other than this glitch, windows works fine. I can set the resolution to 1900 x 1200 for gaming inside the game's application but this huge 640 x 480 is hard to deal with on my 2.93GHz 17" unibody macbook pro display.

Applications :: Grand Central With Snow Leopard?

Applications :: Using Grand Central Dispatch And OpenCL?

Jul 4, 2010

When Snow Leopard came out last year, Apple made marketing out of the fact of having no new features. Arstechnica wrote a splendid review praising the potential of the two new core technologies it brought, and the perspective performance improvements coming from them.

The "radically new development paradigm" was promising for a slower deployment, but I though it would have been compensated by the advantages in speed and code maintainability.

So I've been periodically sampling the Internet for news on either technology. I expected lists of applications employing them, or some visibility on existing apps directories (like "GCD" or "OCL" tags). In lack of these I then resorted to expecting some random block posts from developers, but even of this I find very little.

The most material you find from Robert Watson, concerning applications at the FreeBSD project!

So what happened to these technologies under the Mac? Did they pass ignored by Mac Developers? If so, why? If not, why do they not reflect publicly the same excitement that the competent Ars masters showed?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Use Custom Resolution For Tv / Best Resolution For An LCD HDTV?

Aug 17, 2010

So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.

I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).

OS X :: FreeBSD Adds Support For Snow Leopard's Grand Central Dispatch

Oct 16, 2009

Apple's Grand Central Dispatch technology, which debuted in Snow Leopard as a mechanism for optimizing parallelism across multiple cores and processors, has now been ported to FreeBSD. Apple publicly announced plans to release its GCD technology as open source last month; the FreeBSD team demonstrated its early port of the new feature at EuroBSDCon 2009 in Cambridge, UK just days after Apple's announcement. Out of the box support for GCD is scheduled to appear with the release of FreeBSD 8.1. The work required to port Apple's GCD event and concurrency framework to other operating systems is more complex than many other higher-level open source packages because GCD requires integration into the kernel (the core component of the operating system which manages processes, memory, and other hardware).

Most Unix-based software is highly portable between Mac OS X, Linux, and BSD, but significant kernel differences between these systems makes porting low-level, kernel-integrated technologies like GCD more work. In particular, Mac OS X uses a unique kernel design based on a hybrid of Mach and BSD. Porting GCD to FreeBSD required adaptations to account for a more conventional kernel environment without a Mach layer, such as using POSIX semaphores instead of Mach semaphores. FreeBSD's porting efforts should help to make GCD easier to port to other operating systems with conventional Unix or Unix-like kernels, including OpenBSD, NetBSD, Linux, and Solaris..........................
