Also - anyone with software installed - can you post any experience with having to actually use it to get your mac back or the software companies support.
I was wondering if there are any certain types of anti-theft locks for the iMac which I can securely lock onto furniture out there?

I tried it out, pretty impressed with it so far.
Registered my laptop as 'stolen' and it snapped my picture, tracerouted my network, located me on google maps, and I also made it sound an alarm. Pretty good for free
I need to create a timeline for a project, it needs to show a list of releases of different products, I also need to be able to create one that shows how these items can run parallel to each other. Is there anything that would be suited to the task? (a free solution is best, I only need to use it this one time).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright so I was making this video that was really really really difficult to do and I got to like 3:00 of it today and I've been saving, then it just freezes and refuses to do anything. I then realise my external drive somehow turned off for a random reason, so I plugged it back in and it started working again, but then I reopened my project and I get this error

I click on ignore all and it's all in the trash, and what really pisses me off about this is that it took me weeks and weeks and weeks of time to do, there's no way I can redo this all over again. What can I do to get rid of the skipped message and make it all work again
I am in the process of buying a new powerbook (my first one ) and I am looking for a substitute of Microsoft Project 2004.
Eventually I will ever need a PC for my job but I want to try to switch completely for my personal stuff.
I am looking for a professional and comple suite but I don't know any.
I'm looking for recommendations for some project time-tracking software. I have given Studiometry a go, and it looks quite fully-featured (I like the integrated invoice generation and timers), but would like to solicit opinions on other options. Studiometry seems to include everything I need, plus a bunch of stuff I don't. Also, stability questions arise -- this app looks huge and complicated (from a code standpoint), and seems to have a few stability issues. In addition, the interface isn't very "Mac-like," which is something important to me (hey, an ugly and counter-intuitive application is horrid to use, even if the code is rock-solid!).
For those freelancers/project managers out there, what time-tracking and project management software do you use, and what are your likes and dislikes? I'm looking for recommendations for software that can maintain a list of clients with a number of projects under each client as well as individual timers for each project. Studiometry allows multi-user situations, which is a boon, but not required, since I have more than myself working on any project at a given time. I can search versiontracker.com myself, but before I go downloading and trying 10 applications, I'd like to hear some opinions from real-world usage.
I'm looking into purchasing some of this. Which is the best to buy? Undercover 4?

I've been working on avery complicated project all day with multiple layered clips with key frame animations, colour effects etc. All was fine until I opened a new project in the same event which I was going to use to create some effects sequences for the main project. When I went back to the original project it was empty. Tried the Undo function in case I had done anything stupid but it was greyed out. Went to the FCPX backups and the last file was almost 2 hours old but did not have any sign of this project. The only thing I have left is all the imported media.
Using FCPX 10.1.3. This is really annoying as all I have left is an h264 file of the almost complete project and it will be almost impossible to start from scratch.

Anti-Glare vs Glossy with an anti-glare film. Opinions? Advice? I want to retain the pretty black bezel and the film would serve a double purpose: anti-glare and scratch protection.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a Windows user, recently forced to use the Mac because of work. I bought a Mac mini.
Anywhoo, very basic question - do Mac users generally use anti-virus software?
I used Mac through most of the 90s (again, because of my job) and my workplace didn't use it then. I've also been using Linux for the past 10 years and have never used anti-virus software on it either, and never had any problems.
On Windows I use K7 Antivirus.
I have reason to believe there's spyware on my mac.
Can anyone recommend a good anti-spyware-tool? Preferably freeware?
I have Garageband '09 and I am wondering why I can't get all of the loops in my project. In the picture below 50% of the categories are greyed out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs a Project Manager, I live by MS Project. It is the standard at work.
I have successfully replaced all my Windows apps with Mac equivalents or better with the equivalent of MS Project.
Is there a professional project management application out there? Possibly sharing (via export) files with MS Project?
When I work from home, I am on my Mac, but need to have the Windows laptop on, so that I can switch/refer to MS Project.
I'm graduating college and I want to pass on an iWeb project I've maintained to a member of my group who will still be at school next year. What's the best way to do this? Is there one specific file I can give my friend that he can use in his version of iWeb?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is any good apps out there for managing an entire project, across multiple files, sort of a bulletin board, just a single file, that contains a sort of desktop for that entire project, you could drag things into it, files, pictures, notes of somekind, anyone know of anything like this?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI have a 2GB m4v file that I wanted to use iDVD to create a movie for. But even taking it off of Best Performance and instead using High Quality, the movie is too large to be burned. It's showing it as a 4.81 GB project.
I'll admit my ignorance here...what gives? How does a 2GB file grow that large when being encoded as a DVD?
I was using Entourage and loved the Project part of the software. For individual projects it keeps scheduled events, contacts, emails and files all associated together. However, my university's IT asked me to stop using Entourage due to some networking issue so I've started with iCal and Address Book and I'm looking for something to replace Entourage's Project.
I've looked at Bento, and Soho Notes, but they don't seem to have a scheduling side to them and I don't think one can just drop different sorts of files into the relevant project. Other pieces software I've heard of are Yojimbo, DevonThink, Soho Organizer and some Omni softwares, but I'm not sure if they will be any better and the learning curve on a couple of these makes this a hard endeavor on my own.
Is there a project managemente application that runs natively on Mac OS X? I'm thinking about something that supports Microsoft Project 2000 and the likes.
I'm somewhat surprised that Microsoft hasn't ported Project 2000 yet. Any one has heard any plans regarding this by Microsoft?
I just finished an iDVD project and saved it with the default file extension of .dvdproj.
I want to send this to someone with a Windows PC for them to view, but I do not want to burn it onto a disc because I need to send it overseas and it would take a considerably long time.
Is there any way I can convert the iDVD project to another file extension so I can email it to this person? Or, if I go back into the project is there a way to just save it under a more common file extension?
My wife's been working with Entourage for the past several months as she likes having all of her PIM data integrated in one place. In particular she likes the project view as this lets her see all of the relevant files, emails, notes, tasks and calendar appointments for a specific class (she's in grad school) in one place. Unfortunately she also wants to sync that information to her phone (a Nokia N82), and Entourage does not play nice with sync services. Every time we've tried setting up Entourage to sync with iCal so she can then sync with her phone we've run into a host of problems, including losing all of her calendar appointments and getting a massive number of duplicates.
As such I'm looking for an alternative to Entourage that duplicates the Project view features. The most important items for my wife are email, notes, files and calendar, she wants to be able to go to one place and look at all those items for individual classes. I've looked at Contactizer and Daylight, but both are a bit pricey, complicated and don't cover everything she wants, in particular they seem to lack the ability to look into the contents of a defined folder and track the files in there as Entourage can.
