View 1 Replies View RelatedWhatever your situation is, if you need to test your RAM, Memtest OS X is the best tool for the job for your Mac. Yes, there's Memtest86+ - I always use that for all the PCs I own. However, there's a bug in Memtest86+ where it could give false positives on EFI machines (which all Intel Macs are).
Memtest, by the way, is open source. So why, then, do you have to pay to download it? You have to pay to download both the binary and the source. I believe this violates the GPL, which Memtest OS X, and Memtest before it, are released under.
So I'm attaching Memtest right here in this thread. Now you can download it for free, without having to pay. Unfortunately, I don't have the source .
I want to migrate my Parallels VM to VirtualBox. However, VB doesn't read Parallels VMs. I wanted to use the VMware converter, but the EULA says that it is only for use in migrating VMs for use in VMware software.
So, besides VMware converter, are there any other free tools that will let me convert my Parallels machine for use in VirtualBox? I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Is there a tool in pages similar to the show/hide tool in Microsoft office?
The tool that shows each space, indent, break, etc.
I need to use a powerfull Find and Replace tool for text files. Something more powerfull than what we have in TextEdit, and lets you find generic words, and other options.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a RAR archiver (don't ask why... because I used it a lot on my Windows machine) in order to create split RAR-archives. But there is no good RAR programme for the Macs! Yesterday I found RARMe and it has been working very well... Today it doesn't want to create archives anymore. I switched to Rarify, which is a very simple programme but it does what it has to do. The problem is that it is too simple and I still need some options... Could you tell me how YOU solve this problem of not having a good RAR-tool on OSX? Which programme is the best?

It does not matter what license it has. If it's a good app, I don't mind shelling out some $$$ for it.
I've currently got an Amazon S3 account. I'm interested in having something run automagically which will back up my iPhotos and a bunch of other folders to it.

There was an app I used a few years ago that was free to look at what pics it could recover, and then you paid to recover them but I can't remember what it was called.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a website authoring/publishing tool for Mac OS. I am by no means a web designer, I have created sites before using front page and they worked great and stuff. I also created a site using iWeb but that will not work for what I need to do. I was tasked with redesigning our intranet page so basically I just need a recommendation of a software that would help me do so. Nothing super advanced just something that would make a nice user friendly site.

How can I add the command key in the input field for "custom keyboard shortcut"? I am looking for some trackpad gesture that does not include use of the keyboard (just the trackpad) that I could use to quit an app easily.

I've always backed up the DVDs I've purchased for when the originals get scratched. On a PC I had a decent workflow that involved a decrypter, a compressor, and Roxio burning ROM. Now on a Mac I'm a bit lost. I've used handbrake to rip DVDs to be playable in iTunes and have Burn installed, but there seems to be something missing, namely a compression tool and the ability to keep the original DVDs menu structure, etc. I know about Mactheripper but am lost after that. Shed some light on this for me?

I am on a Unibody with 10.5.6. and I would need to change the font sizes for my gf as they are causing her a terrible eyestrain.
I just discovered Tinker Tool and wanted to test the font size functions, but everytime i change them and I want to preview the size, it is saying that I would need to relaunch it in order to be able to preview - I do that, nothing happens - fonts change back to default.
I did some searches in google as well as this forum and it looks like there are quite a few options out there for users interested having a program automatically grab missing album artwork from places like amazon if you are running iTunes on Windows.
Users have also reported that some of these tools are great at screwing up the existing album artwork in your iTunes library.
I am looking for a batch tool since I have missing artwork on 1000s of songs (note that this album artwork is not present in itunes store). Does anyone know of a good, reliable program or script that can import missing album artwork on iTunes 8 in OS X 10.5?
I am looking for an application simular to adobe flash CS4 that can bone - tool i want the app to be for free.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just used the ical calibration tool to sync ical up with my google calendar and it works like a charm. I love how i can just click on dates in Mail and add them to my iCal which then pushes i to google calendar for my wife to see...that way i can sneak tennis or a round of golf in and she can't say she didn't know
At any rate-i would like to know if there's a way to pull her cal stuff to my ical. I can see all of her stuff on my google calendar, but i dont have the "right" to add her account to ical. I assume i could just have her enter in her login info - but i would like to know if that's the best way.
I recently went through my Applications folder and uninstalled some applications. Now and then, I'll find a file or a folder or a bunch of files and folders from an uninstalled application. Does anyone know of an application that can delete these files that I no longer need?

Mac OSX has a very handy tool by which you can connect 2 Macs and migrate all the information and settings from one to the other.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've just used my time machine to migrate my old macbook's contents to my brand new macbook air. While I was watching it restore 803,678 files to the new machine, I was wondering how many of them are unused applications. I've stupidly never set up separate user accounts before this, and I'm sure there are any number of applications that were placed on my old machine by my kids, my husband, and various visitors to our house. Since I'm using time machine instead of starting fresh, I know those have been transferred to the new machine. I've never worried too much about this situation before now, as about every three years I've bought a new machine, migrated the files I need to the new machine, wiped the old one clean, and handed it down to one or the other of my kids.
But now I'm realizing that with time machine, everything on my computer is now forever...everything anyone has ever put on it has been transferred to time machine and now to my new machine. I don't want to be operating with years-old versions of kid's games and apps on every machine I set up from now on for the rest of my life. Is there anything out there that specifically looks for stuff that hasn't been used for a specified number of years and asks something like, "Barney & Friends was installed 1/16/2003 and was last used 10/18/2005. Delete Barney & Friends and all associated files, yes or no?"
I'm looking for an advanced notepad for editing HTML/CSS. I'm also wondering whether there's a notepad that has good note-taking functionality as I'm going to use my MBP at University next year.
I also need a cleaner (CCleaner) type program that will keep my Mac in-tune. I'm wondering whether I actually need to keep it in-tune seeing as it's running probably the best operating system in the world which doesn't have all the crap entailed with it.
I'm going to maybe invest in Photoshop in the distant future but is there something that really has the power of PS in a nutshell? I really can't afford the prices they are charging so I'm wondering whether I can just nudge my way round it all and get another decent editor.
I've had a Mac Pro for 2.5 years. I've never run diagnostics or de-fragged the HD like I did with my old G4. I called AppleCare to ask if I should do this periodically (I have the Tech Tool "light" disk that came w/Apple Care, and I often hear ads for $99 Tech Tool Pro).
