However, there's a bug in Memtest86+ where it could give false positives on EFI machines (which all Intel Macs are).
Memtest, by the way, is open source. So why, then, do you have to pay to download it? You have to pay to download both the binary and the source. I believe this violates the GPL, which Memtest OS X, and Memtest before it, are released under.
So I'm attaching Memtest right here in this thread. Now you can download it for free, without having to pay. Unfortunately, I don't have the source .

Sep 20, 2009I want to migrate my Parallels VM to VirtualBox. However, VB doesn't read Parallels VMs. I wanted to use the VMware converter, but the EULA says that it is only for use in migrating VMs for use in VMware software.
So, besides VMware converter, are there any other free tools that will let me convert my Parallels machine for use in VirtualBox? I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8.

May 15, 2010I made a mockup of what the MBP 13" would be like if Apple ditched the superdrive, used a bigger battery, and added a dedicated GPU:
(actual) 2010 MBP 13"
(mockup) 2011 MBP 13"
I figure the larger battery would add another 5 hours to the current 10 hour battery life, totaling about 15 hours, although that could change with the addition of the more powerful GPU.

Yesterday I found RARMe and it has been working very well... Today it doesn't want to create archives anymore. I switched to Rarify, which is a very simple programme but it does what it has to do. The problem is that it is too simple and I still need some options... Could you tell me how YOU solve this problem of not having a good RAR-tool on OSX? Which programme is the best?

Jun 21, 2010I've always backed up the DVDs I've purchased for when the originals get scratched. On a PC I had a decent workflow that involved a decrypter, a compressor, and Roxio burning ROM. Now on a Mac I'm a bit lost. I've used handbrake to rip DVDs to be playable in iTunes and have Burn installed, but there seems to be something missing, namely a compression tool and the ability to keep the original DVDs menu structure, etc. I know about Mactheripper but am lost after that. Shed some light on this for me?

I just discovered Tinker Tool and wanted to test the font size functions, but everytime i change them and I want to preview the size, it is saying that I would need to relaunch it in order to be able to preview - I do that, nothing happens - fonts change back to default.

Sep 3, 2009I've got another ongoing thread (2006 Mac Pro Elevated CPU Temps) where I've been attempting to determine why my 2006 Mac Pro was running so much warmer than I recall at time of purchase By sheer luck, I seem to have stumbled on the cause... when I first noticed it, I was running 10.5.7 with the CPUs idling around 130F or so... as noted in that thread, I tried all sorts of things such as cleaning the dust out, reapplying the thermal paste, etc... all of which had no impact... for an unrelated issue, I decided to re-install OS X 10.5 base version and I was shocked to discover my CPU temps back down in the mid-90s F

Apr 17, 2012I have a Mac Pro with 4 monitors; I've been using it for a couple of years now, with no problem. Over the last few months, I've noticed that after a while, screen redraws (like after I move a window) get completely messed up. Remarkably, this is visible to screengrab, so you can see what it looks like here: url...it's worst on one of the monitors, but does happen on one of the others.Usually going to Dashboard and back clears it up, but not always.Also, a weird thing affects Firefox - the window contents go completely black sometimes. Sometimes moving it to a different monitor makes it show up again, and sometimes not.I've had one of the video cards replaced (the one running the monitors where this happens most often) but it's still happening. And it's not consistent enough so that if I taker the machine to Apple, they'd have to work on it for weeks maybe to see this behavior. [code]
