I have searched on google but haven't found anything. Are there any mac apps for keeping up to date on forum posts? Forums that dont have RSS feeds. I'd love an app that could keep track of forums all in one place. Online tools?

I'm running osx 10.6.4 and Adobe Reader is giving me fits. It doesn't play well. How do I change the default PDF reader from Adobe to Preview or iArchiver? Adobe Reader just grabs hold of the download and won't let go.
I was looking for a Safari Reader-like add-on for Firefox and finally stumbled on Firefox Reader, which seems to have more customizations, and options. Has anyone else tried it? What are your impressions?

Is there any application to read a forum in the desktop? I mean, outside a browser.
I think that a desktop app could offer some advantages that online read doesn't offer.
For example, you could skip ads or you could save useful threads regarding the forum type.
This kind of app would very useful if it syncs with a iphone one
I just tried NetNewsWire, and Vienna, NNW is nice but Google Reader has a great feature that these both are without.
In GReader, when I mouse over or scroll down it marks that one article as read. No pushing buttons, clicking next, nothing. Just read.
I want to be able to pre-download all of my current unread items, AND the pictures. Gears for GReader does NOT download the pictures. I have a lot of picture only feeds, like lolcats, that I would like to let build up for a week and then on my long plane ride home, check out.
In NNW I can smash the space bar and get this accomplished, but I'd rather just scroll through, or at least have the option to.
I don't really like the look of Vienna, it's too unpolished, NNW is a tad better and has better options for like the prefs.
It would also be interesting to be able to give specific instructions, or adjust certain settings on a per-feed basis. Such as filter out cartain keywords (Without using a service such as feedrinse).
I hat vienna because once I click on a feed, it marks everything as read. That's bad for me as I sometimes just open a mega feed and read one or two items. I have maby 20 or 30 feeds, but usually get 2-300 new items a day. Most are junk like Joystick, but I like to sit down and go through the important ones while im taking a break or eating lol.
I know you can't but it'd be interesting to allow some feeds to auto queue an embedded movie, let me view it offline (or off my VPN.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just noticed when I went to log in to the Apple Support Forum to post for the first time that the login page does not display the lock for it's security credentials in the upper right corner of Safari. Is this potentially an issue given that it asks for your AppleID that is used for iTunes? The webpage url starts with "https://" but it does not display the lock.

I searched but couldn't find any topics on this, but I can't for the life of me get safari to properly open forum topics from real gm. It will work 1 out of 7 times perfectly, the others not until I refresh and refresh (and even still it doesn't load all the page).

I was trying to add a Glims custom search engine for MacRumors forums. However, the search URL doesn't actually have the search terms in it, it comes up as [URL:...] with a string of numbers at the end. As a result, the standard Glims method of making new engines doesn't work. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

Is this normal, and is there any way around this? So that I can pick and choose which applications exist on the 2nd account?
So I downloaded a music album from itunes and it was added to my library. This was done on a PC running win 7. How do I keep that library in sync with my MBA running OS X? Thought I could actually just download the album again on the MBA for free when logged into the same itunes account, but it appears that I can't.

Is there anyway to be able to use/transfer the programs if one has registered them online? Or does a new computer require a new installation disc and serial? Anyway I can install w/o original discs -My installation discs are at my parents home on the east coast, I recently moved to the west coast and don't have them with me. I can have them send them to me, but if my older computer is registered, can I register a new one?

I have pretty much discovered that it is impossible to do from the OS its self. I have also downloaded insomniax but everytime i enable it my system crashes and i gotta restart. But there is no good RAR programme for the Macs! Yesterday I found RARMe and it has been working very well... Today it doesn't want to create archives anymore. I switched to Rarify, which is a very simple programme but it does what it has to do. The problem is that it is too simple and I still need some options... Nothing fancy, I just want a visually pleasing application where I can import important files like birth certificate, SSN, tax documents and etc., and be able to organize/color code etc. Of course, it needs to be able to encrypt databases. I'm basically looking for an alternative to what my bank Wells Fargo provides online for secure doc backups. (I already have a backup solution for my entire computer)
I found a program called Records Master, but it's a little too basic and doesn't prove to be much more helpful over creating an encrypted mountable drive (which is pretty much what I do now). I'm simply looking to streamline some of my paperwork like taxes and stuff, and it's a pain looking through mounds of unorganized half chewed paper that's all over the place taking up too much space.
I have a customer who owns a Mac and when she attempted to download an unzipped embroidery file (jef extension) she was greeted with the message this was not possible, that it had to have a .dmf extension and she was given the option to use both (nameoffile.jef.dmf)This did not work at all.
How do you download an embroidery file while keeping the extension intact?She transfers her file to a jump drive and then to her machine. We tried downloading directly to the jump drive - same message.She is going to try to use her Windows parallel and see if that will work.
I have tried everything and can't seem to get it to run any command. seen screenshots of geek tool and would love to run terminal stuff in the background like that rather than in a terminal window.

Before I switched to Mac, on Windows, when I wanted to revisit songs I most recently added to the folder, I would sort the songs by the Date Modified and it would order the files I placed in the folder by date.
In OSX, however, there must be a slightly different meaning to "Date Modified," as it does not quite sort my songs by the order they were added. It gets some of it right, but there's plenty of files that are out of order--tune "x", which I know was placed in the folder a week ago is actually listed further down the list with songs placed in the folder months ago.
Is there a way to have OSX sort files in order of the date it was placed in a folder? Neither "Date Modified" nor "Date Created" works 100% as I thought it would. Or is the OSX definition of Date Modified/Created slightly different than Windows?
I've noticed recently that when in Finder, all folders/files have a Modified Date of somewhere in January 2009 or January 2008, regardless of when it was actually modified/created. My clock at the top left-hand corner says Oct 20 though. Any thoughts?
