View 4 RepliesI have Mail checking my [URL] address. I want to use Mail to also check my Gmail account. No problem in setting that up... done already. Here's the issue: I have more than 1.1GB of mail in my Gmail account, including file backups on Gspace. I don't want Mail to download all those messages... only the past week or so, then move forward with Mail downloading new Gmail messages only. Is there a way to tell Mail NOT to download my entire Gmail history?

From the Apple Mail app, I can not see messages that were sent while in the web version of Gmail. To me, if I have it configured via IMAP, anything I do on my phone, I should see on my mac. Anything I do on my mac, I should see anywhere from the web app. Am I doing something wrong? Can YOU see messages you sent through the web portal, on your Apple Mail app?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a hotmail account and about a month ago apple mail deleted all my messages from the hotmail account, therefore I am unable to access any of them from anywhere else except my mac.
I learned that that was due to me leaving the box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message." Now I fixed that and moved to gmail, as I was able to upload all hotmail messages to my gmail account through tuhunderbird.
Since I am not a big fan of Thunderbird as it is giving me some password issues, today I set up the gmail imap (I think) accunt on my apple mail, but there is no box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" for gmail in prefrences, just for hotmail.
Now I am scared, will apple mail delete all my messages from the gmail server, and if it will, how do I prevent it from doing so?
I read almost a year ago that I could archive my mobileme mail to Gmail so I could delete it from my mobileme and not loose it. I need the space on mobileme mail and my hard drive but I really dont want to loose these emails.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Mail to access 4 different email accounts, two of which are Gmail accounts. About a week ago Mail stopped retrieving the messages of one of the accounts. It looks like it is trying to download them in that the little status wheel spins, but nothing happens on that account. I can send mail from it, however it is extremely slow to send. I installed Snow Leopard about two months ago and have had no other problems. Now all of a sudden Mail won't download any of my messages from this Gmail account. I haven't changed any settings, and I can access my mail at [URL] using the net interface and also on my iPhone and there are plenty of new messages there. I don't know what to do.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI went to send a message from my apple mail (gmail account) and it won't send. Says smtp.gmail.com is offline. I didn't change any settings but when I went in to check them, they were all gone. I added back smtp.gmail.com under description and my complete email address under server name. I then went to advanced settings and made sure the Use default ports (25, 465, 587) was checked and also Use Secure Sockets Layer was checked. I chose Password for authentication and added my complete email address for user name with my password. It still says I'm offline and won't sent a message.

I've got a bunch of client folders and subfolders (labels on gmail). I'm trying to switch to mac in the office and set up an imap account. In the last hour searching the archives here, the subfolders in the account have appeared, disappeared, back and forth. Right now they're gone. They have never had any of the messages in them on the mac. There is no little triangle to turn.
Here's what I have done so far:
- set the folders to show in IMAP
- verified the folders/labels and their contents are on the server, my pc, my iphone
- completely deleted and recreated the account in Mail and System Preferences 3 times
- they also don't show in the [Gmail] folder down below
- let it completely sync overnight last night (problem existed yesterday too)

I have a quick question...I really don't like the feature of gmail where it saves your sent messages into the inbox. Instead, I would like them restricted to the "Sent Mail" folder so I don't have to sift through my own messages I sent. Does anyone know how I can do this?

View 15 Replies View RelatedOn my Mac, ALL of my emails have been marked as "read." However, while my AOL account syncs fine, my Gmail account's messages must be "read" individually on both ends.
View 4 Replies View RelatedToday, I changed the password of my Gmail account on a PC computer in a public library. Afterwards, I was/am unable to log into my Gmail account to check the messages via SL 10.6.4's Mail client. I have an April 2010 13" MBP. Similarly, I was/am unable to log into my Gmail account via the Mail client on my 16 GB, 3G iPad, or the 32 GB, 3rd Gen iPod Touch. I keep getting the error message that either the user name or the password is wrong! I checked and re-checked, but I did NOT see anything wrong? The funny thing is that I could log into my Gmail account via Safari on ALL three devices, but NOT via the Mail client on the three device!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running mac os X version 10.5.8 and I find that mail will download not all my mail and will not send from any of my mailboxes.
I have set up mail with my googlemail account my mobileme account and my yahoo accounts. all are set up as stp and I have set them up according to all the online help lines. I have had mail set up for many months now, and have been trying to fix this problem for a long time now off and on.
One thing that I have tried is changing the outgoing port number from the default to 587, but still no joy.
I use gmail as my main email account. I have it synched to my iphone (IMAP) and mail.app (IMAP). This was all running smoothly until about a week ago when I turned on my mac and opened mail. It started downloading hundreds of emails.
I looked over them and it seems that all the mails that I have moved to sub folders have been copied to my inbox again and marked as unread.
I have not knowingly changed any settings on my iphone, mac or web based gmail.
I have decided to start using gmail and keeping my email online instead of stored locally in the Mail program.
I have all my old mail and sent mail downloaded locally in the Mail program.
Is there an easy way to export all of that into gmail? I see I can import mail into gmail from other mail accounts, but here I am talking about importing mail that is now stored locally.
Don't know if this was addressed yet, but "Spam" mail from my gmail (spam folder - duh!) keeps popping up in my "Sent Mail" folder in Mac mail. I found this post online, but am not tech savvy enough to know what they're talking about.
Quote:
Okay. I know what's going on there. You are correct this is spam that does not originate from you. The issue is that it is not your gmail address that is being forged, but your other address that forwards to gmail. You have also configured your forwarding server as a valid mail originator for your address in SPF. So the mail looks completely legitimate to gmail: it arrives at gmail from a server that you have configured as a valid server to send from your email address, therefore gmail thinks it really is from your email address.
If you control your own domain and you use gmail's smtp server for outgoing mail, you should remove the SPF entry that marks the forwarding server (URL) as a valid originator for your domain. Then gmail will be able to figure out that this is forged. This will likely cause gmail to put this stuff properly in Spam and to avoid showing you the images.(URL)
I use an IMAP email account (provided by AOL) and every time I send an email it then comes in to my AOL sent items folder and displays an unread count on mail.app. It's infuriating.
I think imap stores the sent mail on it's server and I think I'm subscribed to all these folders so when it receives my sent mail, it sends a copy back to me.
I have tried creating a rule that mark all messages from me as read, but to no avail, it still does it anyway.
In an effort to make Mail more gmail-like, I selected the "View>Organize by thread" option. However, this only seems to group messages in my inbox and doesn't include my sent messages within the same conversation.
Is this how threaded messages are supposed to work? Just one side of a conversation? Or is there a setting to get my sent messages to show up in the threaded conversation?
I am using Mac Mail to check my gmail acct via IMAP. I am using the settings specified by google. I have selected the appropriate folders and mapped them using the "Use this folder for..." menu item. My sent messages are both in the Sent folder (for a while, then they disappear) and below in my Gmail>Sent Mail folder (always current). I have the option selected to store them on the server.
I am having problems with my mac mail and gmail. It was consistent across my iphone, imac and macbook. Only with one gmail account, the other is fine. It tells me there is a username or password error. I know this isnt the case because I have tested it by logging into the web version of gmail. I have tried deleting and recreating the account - still the same problem. On my iphone the problem was fixed by using exchange.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i first set up my gmail account with the standard email that comes on the Mac i didnt have any problems, as of this morning everything was working fine, now i am not receiving any emails. I have to physically go to gmail.com to get my email. I have tried to take me account offline and then put it online again, i just dont know how to fix it.
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account "Gmail" or try again.
I had a question. Is there a way to use Gmail's IMAP with Apple Mail and configure it so that when the message is deleted on Gmail, It is not deleted in Apple Mail. I have wanted to convert to IMAP for a while but was always concerned with the possibility of Gmail servers accidentally deleting all of my emails and then would in turn delete all of them on my computer and I would have no backup copies of my emails anymore. I like to archive my emails but I like the performance of receiving emails thru IMAP over POP.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using Mail.app for my gmail accounts for quite a while now - but it seems that Mail just isn't designed for gmail. For example - when I search for a message, each message will appear two or more times (located in Inbox & All Mail, not inc. any labels), archiving messages isn't exactly easy, and deleting messages doesn't quite.. delete messages.
Is there a way to make Mail.app more friendlier towards Gmail accounts or is there a better client for Mac for Gmail accounts?
The outgoing server for gmail on mail.app isn't working for me.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI cant seem to log into [URL] and smtp.gmail.com. I followed every direction via [URL] to setup an account on Mail 3.5. I enabled IMAP in my account settings on [URL]. I just cant seem to get it working it so weird.
View 5 Replies View Related Is there anybody that has experience with gmail but accessing it through your mail app. I've read everywhere on google that imap has to be enabled and you have to set up the account correctly on my MBP. I've done all that and half the time I try to delete some e-mails they will look like they get deleted but in about 2-3 mins they come back up on my computer as it downloaded it again.. It never deleted it from gmail... I would rather use imap because it's easier to use with my iphone... Plus I want to have access like I have on my phone but on my computer.. What settings do I need and how did you guys get it to work?
I have a laptop an desktop both set to IMAP Gmail through Mail.app. However, my e-mails don't sync as read across the computers. For example, when I use the laptop all day to read e-mails and then come home to my desktop, everything is still shown as unread in my inbox.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWith the addition of exchange activesync to Gmail for iPhone push e-mail, is it possible to similarly setup Gmail as an exchange in Mail.app?
I am not an Exchange guru, but it would seem logical that you could use the same server settings for Mail.app. I'm not sure how to manually add an exchange server instead of using the auto-discover though.
I was wondering if there is a way to configure Gmail IMAP for Mac Mail in such a way that I only get the new message (don't download whatever I have already), and when I press archive, it deletes them from my computer but saves them in Gmail?
Basically, my Gmail account is already around 6GB and I don't really want to have all of that on my hard drive
k... so I have been an avid Gmail user and fan since in was released. I have only been a Mac user for a little over a year now, and love it! I have only just recently tried to make the switch to using 'Mail'. Until now I've just used Gmail, but I wanted to try Mail because it syncs seamlessly with everything, auto-suggests calendar entries and to-dos etc. However, my questions are these: How much HD space do the emails take up? Are the still stored on Google's server (through Gmail), or do they take up my HD space?
