I bought a new 500GB hard drive and I already have a 320GB in my 13" MBP. I'd like to swap the two but get all the data onto my 500GB HDD so everything is exactly the same when I turn it on. Of course I can use Time Machine for this without any major trouble, but the problem is I don't have a drive to put my backup onto and then load it onto my new 500GB drive.

A very helpful member of another forum suggested I use the Disk Utility "Restore" utility, restoring my TimeMachine data from the old disk to a new disk. For some reason this will not work for me.

I'm trying to find what is making iMovie look for these files so I can clear out the reference. I tried searching for the file name and nothing comes up. I'm looking for a FREE data recovery app for os x to recover data from a NTFS hard drive. The hard has lost it's volume and will not mount and I've tried some other programs and I can see the files but I can't get them off because every program I've tried isn't free and won't let me copy them off. I've tried looking for one but I can't seem to find a good one. I just want to copy off the files and then I'll wipe the drive and fix the parition.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am in need of a data recovery app that can recover data off a Fat32 drive and save the recovered data to a NTFS drive (I use NTFS-3G). I have PhotoRec but can't seem to navigate to my NTFS external to save the data (the only drive big enough to save the data too is my girlfriend's 500GB external and it is NTFS).
Any tips to getting photorec to navigate to the drive (I am pulling from one external to another). Photorec sees the one I want to save too I just can't get it to select it. Also if there are any other programs yall recommend, I will give them a shot.
My slot leading super drive has just quit ejecting the cd inside. I tried 5 different ways to eject it but none work.

Just recently my Mac Pro has started to give me trouble reading DVDs. The DVDs are fine as they read perfectly on my MacBook, but on the Mac Pro, they just spin up a bit in there and never load. Every once in a while, a DVD will load just fine, but for the most part I can't get DVDs to play. I think I've noticed a pattern. CDs and single-layer DVDs load without a problem. It's the newer Dual-layer DVDs that just sit in there and fail to load. I remember hearing about a similar issue in Nintendo Wiis and that it was because the drive was probably dirty. Any tips on how to clean the drives and test that out?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am new to mac. When I insert a cd/dvd into the slot loading drive, I have to push the cd in rather far before it actually catches it and pulls it in. Is this normal or is it supposed to only be pushed in about half way. When it ejects it seems that it pushes the disc out much further. Is there something you must do before inserting a cd, or do you just push it in?

It was something I stumbled across, but I can't find any reviews, or nail down anybody who's used it.

Basically I have a 750GB hard drive in my Macbook Pro and over 300GB is taken up with 'BackUp' data. This is more than the total of everything I have on the drive other than that. Time Machine has always been setup on an external drive and when searching all files on the Macbook there is nothing for backup files so don't know where it is coming from.

I have an '05 mac mini (pre-intel chip) with OS X 10.4 that while trying to transfer a file to an external hard drive gave me a blue screen (that wouldn't go away). After a hard shut down, I get to the apple and spinning wheel but nothing else happens.
My goal is to get to my files on the mini and put them on an external drive (specifically my itunes folder)
Is there some other way to repair this? I have 17 GB left on the main hard drive. Could I partition it and create a new bootable drive without wiping out the data in the original drive?
This is not related to the other bluray thread on here. I am looking for a slot loading Blu Ray drive (I do not want write capability) for my iMac Aluminum. I know fastmac sell a Bluray drive for $999, but that has the unnecessary write capability which jacks up the price. So, does anyone know where to get a slot loading BD-ROM for the iMac?

My attempts with using Boot Camp Assistant have led to a black screen with a blinking cursor.Assuming that Windows cannot load from the now external drive, is there another solution?

I have a g4 slot loading drive and I am fulling aware the outside casing would be wrong... but that isn't much of an issue, I can replace the panel/casing section with a new panel to take care of that... i just want to know if it is possible as far as hookups etc are concerned.

He burns around 5 cd's/DVD's a day, a stack of 100 cd's does not last long with him. He does a lot of movie burning to watch it on his tv and wonders if after a year of tons of burning will the slot loading drive die out. He does not want to buy an external DVD burner as well which is what i use.

I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe problem i'm having is that, itunes keeps loading on its own. i don't have an ipod plugged in, no 3rd party widgets or anything running, and it will just suddenly load itself and start playing without me doing anything. i do have the last.fm app, but its only set to load once itunes does. even after quitting itunes, it still reopens on its own every 15 mins or so.

Today I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.
Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes...I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before.
Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer.
I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps.I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.
I have a weird problem with Safari that has been bugging me. At seemingly random times it doesn't load a page. Usually it is the second page of a website I visit. This means that the homepage [URL] for example) loads fine. But when I click on a link on the page (to go to sports or politics), it starts loading and then does nothing. Like this:
The New York Times often doesn't load at all. I have no problems at all with some other sites, like wikipedia or Macrumors. Firefox and Camino do not have these problems.
The problem started when I was still running Tiger and Safari 2 on my MacBook. I since started using a MacBook Pro and moved all my data and settings with the Migration Assistant. The MacBook Pro runs Leopard, but Safari 3.0 has exactly the same problem as Safari 2 had on my Macbook. I tried the following:
- repair permissions
- removed all cookies and set my preferences to accept all cookies
- cleared cache
- manually removed the .plist-files for Safari from the Library
All to no avail. When I log in using the built-in Guest Account on my MacBook Pro, Safari runs fine.
If I load safari it come to crash.. I cant see window.. but if I uninstal it then its going good. Do you think it can crashing it some program? Do have anyone same problem?
