OS X :: Need To Push CD / DVD Into Slot Loading Drive?
Dec 28, 2009I am new to mac. When I insert a cd/dvd into the slot loading drive, I have to push the cd in rather far before it actually catches it and pulls it in. Is this normal or is it supposed to only be pushed in about half way. When it ejects it seems that it pushes the disc out much further. Is there something you must do before inserting a cd, or do you just push it in?

May 20, 2009This is not related to the other bluray thread on here. I am looking for a slot loading Blu Ray drive (I do not want write capability) for my iMac Aluminum. I know fastmac sell a Bluray drive for $999, but that has the unnecessary write capability which jacks up the price. So, does anyone know where to get a slot loading BD-ROM for the iMac?

Nov 12, 2007I have a g4 slot loading drive and I am fulling aware the outside casing would be wrong... but that isn't much of an issue, I can replace the panel/casing section with a new panel to take care of that... i just want to know if it is possible as far as hookups etc are concerned.

Jun 24, 2009My friend was thinking of getting a new iMac, the only thing he does not like about them is the slot loading drive. He burns around 5 cd's/DVD's a day, a stack of 100 cd's does not last long with him. He does a lot of movie burning to watch it on his tv and wonders if after a year of tons of burning will the slot loading drive die out. He does not want to buy an external DVD burner as well which is what i use.

Jun 3, 2007Until yesterday, my iMac G3 slot is working fine, but today, I can't power it up. When I press the power button, the light just flash and then went off. I've opened it up to check the PRAM batt and also checked if there are any shorts on the logic board. All looked ok to me. The HDD is working fine and I supposed the power supply unit is fine too.

Aug 11, 2009The screen/crt of the imac that I have been using since about '98 went black - this actually happened a couple times previously but I was able to get back in (no idea - one of those things where out of frustration you just start pushing everything at once and it suddenly pops back on). I have tried everything - the internal battery, that little button on the motherboard (not sure if that is what it is called) that resets everything, the connection of the main power button on the front, etc. I am fairly sure it is stuck in sleep-mode or something (no beeps, hard drive doesn't make the usual booting-up sounds but you can tell that it is receiving power) but after months of wasted effort I finally gave up. I bought another slot-loading G3 and would like to swap hard-drives between the two - I have taken my old G3 completely apart so many times that I am totally comfortable with that aspect but have hesitated because if I somehow blow this one I will be left with nothing.

Oct 9, 2005I have a 12" PB and latelly became a nightmare with the stuck CDs. Usually it does not want to eject CDs/DVDs from companies but it handles fine virging cds/dvds. ?? Probably there is some formating in the industrial kind of CDs outside, who knows.just want to open this thread for people with the same problem.If the drive tries to eject but can't and end up mounting the CD again. Just take another CD and when you press eject again push that CD into the slot but just one third and you will see the stuck CD coming out with no problem as well.It seems there is a sensor or something that obviously does not work well. I inserted a virgin CD and the drive worked just fine and ejected later on, but a CD as the installer for my Linksys get stuck and some other softwares too.

Feb 16, 2007I have a charcoal iMac DV SE 500 which won't complete a proper start. The machine chimes and begins to start, and then clicks off again before anything can show on the screen. It won't start in Target Disk mode, and zapping the PRAM (starting with alt/apple/P/R, right?) has no effect. Does this sound like a dead PRAM battery, a dead 'Power/Analog' board, or a dead hard drive? Can anyone give me an idea of how much it would cost to fix, and recommend good, reliable, cheap UK repairers It's not worth much, but I have a friend who'd love it if it can be restored to life, and I'd like to get some of the files off it if it's not the drive.

Apr 6, 2012i can't connect to the internet via my ethernet cable, but this is a weird case. What's weird about it is that all my settings are O.K. (appletalk on and set to ethernet, tcp/ip set to ethernet, dhcp) and my iMac is recieving a 192 address, but it still can't connect to the internet. The dhcp settings are correct, because they are the same settings used on all my other devices (at least those that use internet anyway), and they all connect to the internet just fine. Whether via an ethernet cable, or Wi-Fi.

IMac PPC :: G3 Slot Loading Makes Noise When Plugged In - Won't Turn On
Jun 3, 2012When I plug it in, the computer makes a horrrible noise, and then when I press the power button, it flashes, and the noise becomes much louder. It origionally turned on to the hd selection screen when I first got it, and I accidentally left it on all day. When I got home, it was making the noise. I know it is not the hard drive, because it dieson't have one, and Imacs don't have fans.

Apr 8, 2012I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 17" computer. I bought a 750gb Hitachi drive in an upgrade kit from OWC. I have formatted it and now using Carbon Copy Cloner am making a copy of the internal 500gb drive. I am not very familiar with Mac OS X drive partitions. When Carbon Copy Cloner copies the 500gb partition from my Pro, will it leave the other 250gb or will I need to use Disk Utility or somethng else to format the remaining space? I would like to put the 750gb in the Pro moving the current 500gb into the external housing if possible.

Jan 23, 2009I recently bought a MBA with the 128GB SSD. When at the store I launched Word on the SSD version as well as the SATA version and there was a noticeable difference so I decided to pay the extra $700 and go with the 1.86GHz with SSD model. I use this machine for development and my builds carry out file intensive operations that delete and generate a few thousand files (when I generate javadocs). My old Dell desktop from 5 years ago completed this operation in 90 seconds but my MBA takes 400 - 700 seconds. I did some reading and all indicators seem to point to the SSD being fast for reads but slow for writes. Is this correct? I'm not sure I can deal with this slowdown for much longer and I'm thinking a having my SSD replaced with the SATA drive. Will the mac store do this? or is there any less expensive option?

Jan 25, 2010The one in the G5 at the minute has not been working for some time, though it accepts the Install discs and Retail DVDs, but there you go.Will it install in the G5 and work? Doesn't seem to say anything about compatibility on the product page so I'm hoping someone here will know If not, any advice on what a good replacement drive would be? Not looking for anything special really just one that will accept discs!

1. clean install Lion on the new SSD (120 GB)
2. restore apps from my backup on the SSD
3. keep only data on the existing HDD
My questions:
What is the best way to make it?
Can I just keep the existing system on my non-SSD HDD, and after having Lion on SSD keep just data and delete the system libraries? Or is it better to format the whole disk and restore data from time machine backup (so it is not fragmented..

May 16, 2012I am going to be replacing the hard drive on a macbook pro that went crackle and fgave me the spinnign wheel of death before it totally went dead on me but i dont have the discs to reinstall the OS (and to be honest I forget what version it is) on this laptop but have the discs for my imac. Can I use these discs or do I need something else? I got this from a former roommate who upgraded to a newer macbook and was going to toss this so there are no discs for this macbook. Totally at a loss here....not sure if the data is recoverable from the hard drive so need to know what my options are before I take it in for repair tomorrow....
