I recently decided to sync my entire iTunes Library to my iPod instead of managing it all manually. I use the option "Convert higher bit rate songs to 256 kbps AAC", since most of my library consists of CD rips. At the end of each sync, I receive the following message:
"iTunes could not copy "Stage Start" to the iPod because the file could not be converted"
I took a look at the tracks in question, and couldn't find any good reason that they would not convert. They are ALAC files that I ripped from CD, and there are other tracks on the same album that converted with no problems. As a test, I changed the Import Settings to AAC@256kbps, right-clicked on the file and chose "Create AAC version", but received this message.
I'm not sure why it would say the file format is not valid, when it is lossless like all the rest and plays fine. I checked the file(s) in Finder and it has the .m4a extension like all the rest. The only thing different I noticed is that the album art thumbnail doesn't show up for these particular tracks.
I need to convert some lossless .flac files to .MP3 for use in iTunes. The .flac files are of lossless quality obviously and well over 1,000 kbps.
I've searched around and read that XLD is the best app for this. Great!
But, when I use it, the output file is a .wav (I want .MP3, how do I do this) and still encoded at well over 1,000 kbps. How do I make it like 256 kbps and .MP3?
I currently purchase TV shows for the kids and rent movies (Apple TV) but until the Apple iTunes store offers the choice of lossless files (like other online music stores).. I'll continue to purchase CDs.
Chris Jacob is correct the "LP" series should be ALAC - Apple Lossless.
Its an interesting article, published last year;[URL]
If Apple really wants to recreate that "feel" of buying a record, I have to feel like I'm buying something that isn't just higher quality, but also permanent. If I buy a lossy AAC file from the iTunes store today, not only do I know that it's inferior to the same $15 CD, but also that I'll have to chuck it once AAC is put out to pasture.
I have an ALAC music library that I would like to convert to iTunes Plus. The "Advanced" tab does not offer that option. The iPod/iPhone option is grayed out and will not allow selection. The only option available is Apple Lossless.

I have this Talking Heads Box Set that has all the albums redone in DVD 5.1 Audio that I would love to rip to ALAC. What is the best program to do this? I have heard of everyone saying DVD-Audio Extractor beta 3, but I am not having any luck tracking this down.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI also have a $10,000+ stereo system, using a Linn Digital Streamer. My entire music collection is in FLAC, much of it in 24-bit, 192khz. I'd love to buy the new MacBook Pro and use iTunes to manage this collection (as FLAC is the accepted standard for downloadable hi-res music). Unfortunately there STILL isn't FLAC support in iTunes. Looks like I'll have to purchase a Dell XPS instead.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have fluke to convert flac files to play in itunes. But since the new itunes updates I haven't been able to get them to play like audio tracks. For whatever reason, as soon as I click one to play it pulls up the video player although the video screen remains blank. Fluke worked on older itunes versions, is there a new issue I don't know? Anyway to fix?

I had a quick question. I have a DVD audio disk that was "imaged", a .iso file. When I open it in OSX, it mounts the image as a drive and I can access the files inside. Using VLC I can play the .VOB audio files.I would like to convert the files to either FLAC or MP3 so I can archive them on my computer and also burn them to CD-R as I can't play the DVD-A outside my computer. So I was curious were there are programs/freeware to convert these files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've a ipod shuffle 2gb and just wondering if converting songs to AAC could help me pour in more songs in this tiny things..
Most of my songs are either 192 or 256 kbps MP3 format with some even at 320kbps..While syncing we get an option to convert selection to 128kbps AAC.I never tried that option because I was scared as this might effect my original file.Does it convert the actual file and then syncs it to ur ipod or does it retains the original file and sends converted file directly to ipod without effecting my original file...

View 8 Replies View RelatedPretty much my entire music library is stored in FLAC format, this is something that itunes does not support, so does anybody know of a program like itunes that will file and move around my FLAC files for me.At the moment I am playing them through VLC, but that isn't too practical.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to move my library off of my Mac, and onto a PC without using iTunes, and am trying to use a more "open" file format.
View 13 Replies View Relatedhaving spend days reading various iTunes HowTo's and guides, I still do not know how to accomplish this: My family's CD collection comprises about 700 discs. All of them are in my Mac's 240GB iTunes library as Apple Lossless files. My dad uses a PC (urgh) and wants to have all of the songs on his hard drive, too, to be able to sync them with his iPod. His iPod, however, only has a capacity of 120GB and he has got a 160GB external hard drive for the music files, which is why I cannot simply copy my Lossless library to his PC.
So the callenge is not move the entire library, there are tons of guides to do this. Instead, I want to convert the music to AAC on my Mac first and then only move these files to his PC's external drive via network. As I have put a lot of effort into my Lossless library, I do not want to take any risks (however, I do have a time machine backup).
My thoughts:....................
well i recently converted everything to 128 aac and if i convert those to 256 is there any quality gain?

Is there a way to convert all my tracks in iTunes to 128Kbps without having the original tracks imported into iTunes aswell.
I'm picking up a 128GB SSD (going from 640GB HDD) and wanted to put a majority of the compressed/converted tracks onto the library on the drive itself. (similar to how I do it with my iPad).
Is there a way to drag and drop the tracks into iTunes and auto-convert them on the fly without having a huge lossless file and the 128kbps file?
I regularly receive songs in WAV format. In the past, I have always converted them to AIFF to overcome tagging limitations with WAV. Up until recently, I converted songs from WAV to AIFF by right-clicking them in iTunes, then choosing "make AIFF file" (that's not the exact wording, but similar). Just tried to do so today and found that this option is now missing! Was this removed in the latest version of iTunes [I'm running 9.1.1 (12)]? Could it perhaps be restored by some command-line entry in Terminal?
