having spend days reading various iTunes HowTo's and guides, I still do not know how to accomplish this: My family's CD collection comprises about 700 discs. All of them are in my Mac's 240GB iTunes library as Apple Lossless files. My dad uses a PC (urgh) and wants to have all of the songs on his hard drive, too, to be able to sync them with his iPod. His iPod, however, only has a capacity of 120GB and he has got a 160GB external hard drive for the music files, which is why I cannot simply copy my Lossless library to his PC.
So the callenge is not move the entire library, there are tons of guides to do this. Instead, I want to convert the music to AAC on my Mac first and then only move these files to his PC's external drive via network. As I have put a lot of effort into my Lossless library, I do not want to take any risks (however, I do have a time machine backup).
My thoughts:....................

I have a large music library (over 500GB) and from what I've read it is not clear whether there is any way to use the iCloud match service for music libraries that large. The limit seems to be 50GB. Is there a way to use iCloud Match for really large libraries?

I'm running out of space on my 200GB HD, so i was looking for stuff i could remove to free up some space. When i used 'Disk Inventory X' it told me that iTunes was taking up 132GB when it says on my iTunes that the library has 78GB worth of music in it? So i was wondering what could be taking up the extra 50GB, its not duplicates within iTunes or that iTunes is making duplicates of each file opened into it as i regularly delete the contents of my Downloads folder (the place where itunes duplicates the music from)?
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

One possible way I can think of is to open up the iPhoto package, copy all the files to a new location (e.g. external hard drive). Uncheck Copy Items to iPhoto, create a new iPhoto library, and import the images from the new location. However, I am afraid that all of the metadata (keywords, location), events, faces, etc will not get transferred to the new library.

I have an AOL iTunes account and would like to convert it into a regular iTunes account. I know how to do this but I used my AIM screen name and I don't have a credit card so I can't use the method from Apple Knowledge Base. Is there any other way to do this?

I've a ipod shuffle 2gb and just wondering if converting songs to AAC could help me pour in more songs in this tiny things..
Most of my songs are either 192 or 256 kbps MP3 format with some even at 320kbps..While syncing we get an option to convert selection to 128kbps AAC.I never tried that option because I was scared as this might effect my original file.Does it convert the actual file and then syncs it to ur ipod or does it retains the original file and sends converted file directly to ipod without effecting my original file...

Hopefully someone will have the answer as I have searched high and low on this one. I have moved ALL my iTunes content (music, videos etc) to the Shared Music folder on my new WD MyBook World Edition 2 (just in case that's relevant info) and everytime my Mac attempts to load iTunes I have to repeatedly direct it to the library.xml file in the Shared Music folder.Surely there's a proper solution for this? Anyone else out there had this experience and has figured it out.I've noticed that it does this only the first time I open iTunes up, any subsequent bootup within a session is fine, but any restart of my Macbook Pro and I have to repeat this.

Is there a way to convert all my tracks in iTunes to 128Kbps without having the original tracks imported into iTunes aswell.
I'm picking up a 128GB SSD (going from 640GB HDD) and wanted to put a majority of the compressed/converted tracks onto the library on the drive itself. (similar to how I do it with my iPad).
Is there a way to drag and drop the tracks into iTunes and auto-convert them on the fly without having a huge lossless file and the 128kbps file?

I regularly receive songs in WAV format. In the past, I have always converted them to AIFF to overcome tagging limitations with WAV. Up until recently, I converted songs from WAV to AIFF by right-clicking them in iTunes, then choosing "make AIFF file" (that's not the exact wording, but similar). Just tried to do so today and found that this option is now missing! Was this removed in the latest version of iTunes [I'm running 9.1.1 (12)]? Could it perhaps be restored by some command-line entry in Terminal?

I loved the Genius Recommendation Panel on iTunes 9 and found lots of new songs and artists when using itI cannot believe Apple removed it from iTunes 10 and replaced it with a social networking site with the awful title "Ping"
So I replaced iTunes 9 last night, only to find that it wouldn't accept my iTunes library. I managed to reload the songs, but I have lost all my playlists, star ratings, play counts, etc. Its all gone.

My iTunes library has apparently filled my entire iMac (according to the computer I have over 97 days' worth of music). I would like to know 1) how to properly save my iTunes library to an external hard drive and 2) how to use iTunes so that it uses the library on the external drive.

basically all my iTunes music is stored on my Mac Mini, I want to be able to access it all on my iBook so that it is still playing through my Mac Mini but I control it with the iBook. I am using Chicken of the VNC so far and would prefer something that doesn't use a VNC (Such as ARD, etc) and also something that doesnt use a browser window. I have tried netTunes, but really thats all that does as well, gives you a VNC view of iTunes. Also I have tried TuneConnect (Which is really what I'm looking for, but that crashes when I try to access the Mac Mini Library) Does anyone know a better way or doing it, or basically something like TuneConnect that I can try?

I don't know whether this can actually do any harm, but it's strange anyway. In my iTunes library, some music files are listed by iTunes as AAC files while others are listed as MPEG files. When I go to home/music/itunes/itunes music, and look at the files there, the same files that are AAC's in iTunes are listed listed as being m4a and the MPEG's are mp3's. Now, I guess that the difference is that iTunes just shows the container format, so that might be normal (?), but why do I have both mp3 and m4a in my library. Around half of my albums are one type, half the other, and all songs in one album are the same type.

This afternoon I installed a few updates in addition to the the Fusion 3 trial.
HP Printer Driver Update iPhoto and Safari 4.0.4 updates
I keep all my VM's on an external drive, and my free space has only decreased a little (as expected with installing updates). I did not do anything to modify large files (such as renaming iTunes movies etc).
Is there anyway to figure out what Time Machine is doing so I can try and pin point what it's actually backing up? And has anyone had anything similar after installing those items? And, is there anyway of removing the last backup?

I want to backup my itunes library, but it says that I need to install a blank disk. Is there a way to backup the library to an external harddrive instead?
EDIT: I tried this... please tell me if this was the correct thing to do. I basically just went to Finder > Music > iTunes and dragged that whole "iTunes" folder to my external harddrive that was plugged in... and its copying it now

In my ~/Music folder resides two huge folders for iTunes. I'm sure this came about when I reinstalled Snow Leopard some time ago, I didn't realize the transfer didn't happen correctly at the time. One is called iTunes (296 gigs, last opened on Aug 31 and modified today) which seems to be my current folder used by iTunes 10. The other is called iTunes Media (252 gigs, last opened July 30 and last modified on the same date). I'm noticing in here however, files (such as Voice Memos) that are NOT in the first folder I mentioned above. I've probably tons of duplicates here, but what is not a duplicate I'd like to send into the correct place - and then kill the huge unneeded folder! How can I verify where iTunes looks for all of it's data? Music, videos, books, etc. Any suggestions as to how I could merge these?

I'm just got my new iMac and started moving my iTunes library from my PC to Mac.
This is how I did it.
My iTunes library is already organised in my PC, i.e. all music in the iTunes folder.
So I just copied the my entire iTunes folder onto an external hard drive and then to my mac.
Then I use the "add to library" function on itunes so my mac can organise all my music.
The "keep itunes music folder organised" and "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library" check boxes are ticked on both my PC and Mac.
I look at my itunes library on my mac. Everything is good with artists and albums and song names looking good and organised. My playlists and other data is missing - no big deal, since I can make new playlists (BUT if anyone can tell me how I can get my old playlists and data on to Mac iTunes that would be great). However, the biggest problem is that all the .wav files have lost their artist and album names! How can I get these back?
