Just got a new Mac mini and an external superdrive, I find some CDs rip to iTunes but some will not, all the CDs play on regular cd players and PCs an annoying basic problem. I have got around it for now by using my old 2008 mini to rip my CDs onto a portable drive and then transferring them over (the bluetooth is not working).
Whenever I am trying to sign in Mac App Store, a message saying "connection failed" will show up. I have no problem signing in itunes with my Apple ID, so I know my details are correct. Internet connection works just fine over ethernet, with firewall turned off and there's no other third party app (little snitch) or antivirus program which may restrict the network access from Mac App Store. I restored the OS from internet few days back because of a kernel error. Now I need to sign in Mac App Store to download my iLife applications.
Downloaded an E.P. and all of the songs play fine except one which skips itself. The play count goes up and if I click later in the song it will play, but it doesn't play automatically, how do i fix this?
I've noticed that occasionally my IR sensor stops working, and no longer responds to changing the volume, skipping the track in iTunes, etc. It can be resolved by going into Security prefs, disabling and re-enabling the IR sensor. This is annoying, however, and I'm wondering if it's a known issue that might be fixed.
I noticed that when you disable and re-enable the IR sensor, the last few remote button pushes you made while it was broken come through in a burst.
Ok I have a Mac OSX running 10.4.11. If I upgrade to the latest software(10.6) will it cause any problems or erase stuff because my computer is probably about 4 years old or will it run completely fine?
I have a white macbook that has been starting to act a little slow. I put avast on it and found some old files that were windows files received in emails that had never been deleted (i.e. so these weren't issues and so viruses were not the problem).Â
I did a repair disk permissions and it gave the usual long list of java changes. I did a verify disk, and it found errors. So I put the CD that came with the macbook into the drive in order to start from it and run disk utility.Â
The macbook will not boot from the cd. The drive is fine and the computer boots up fine using the HDD. I did try running the hardware test but it said the version is not compatible (maybe these aren't the disks that came with the macbook??) So I booted up normally and tried even to run disk utility from the CD and it said it was the wrong version as well.Â
I researched the internet and saw target disk mode but this old white macbook doesn't have a firewire port. So I just hooked up a carbon copy clone of my desktop from a USB harddrive and was able to boot from that and run disk utility to fix the errors. So the disk errors are fixed and disk verify shows no errors.Â
However, my only outstanding issue is that I cannot boot from the CD drive. If I'm on the road and don't have the usb drive and have trouble with regular boot I will not be able to boot until I get home. I have upgraded the OS since I purchased the macbook but only to 10.6. Do I need a 10.6 startup CD as opposed to the one that originally came with the mac?Â
I just got my macbook pro on monday and today when plugging in my keyboard and mouse into the 1st USB I notice it's not working. I plug them into the 2nd and it works fine.
Is this going to be a hardware issue? I'm sort of gutted, I thought I had a perfect one and now I find something isn't working as it should be.
Just as of 20 minutes ago, I was able to type, but then for no reason, my computer can't type. The strange thing is that when I use the control click, use the mouse, or use the f keys, it works just fine. I used onyx to clean my computer, which didn't work. I restarted my computer, which didn't work, and I tried to go into the Keyboard/Mouse panel, but then System Preferences quit for no reason.
So for no apparent reason my screen all of a sudden turned to this...
It should be the ribbon cable that connects to the screen since the screenshots turn out fine and if I let the mbp cool all the way down and opening it again it's fine for a while....
Can anyone tell me what I should do?? New MBP or get it fixed for who knows how much...
My Extreme is locked to two networks - one b/g and one n. When trying to connect to the b/g network it keeps asking for the password and, when finally joined, it's so slow. It's been ok since I bought it a couple of months ago. I've attached two images - same computer, same Airport Extreme, but the slower on is connected on b/g.
I just found out how can I fine tune OS X's volume key (alt+shift+volume), and I'm wondering is there a way that I can remap it so that I won't have to hold down Alt+Shift each time I change my volume.
I wanted to get a webcam for my Mac mini and noticed that this one is going on sale tomorrow:[URL]. I remember reading a while back that the camera must have auto-focus built in to the lens, as iChat does not adjust the picture. I am unsure if it is built into this one.
I would like to know if anyone is having trouble with Safari 5.0.6 on 10.5.8. I have a habit of walking away from my Mac with the browser still open. 9/10 when I return I get spinning pinwheels, no response period, or scripting errors. Thinking maybe my system was bogged down, I did a fresh install of the OS. That did not fix the problem. Then I made sure 10% of my 2TB drive was free and that also did not fix it.
Now I realize I can use other browsers but I prefer Safari. I was wondering if this is an isolated issue or something everyone else is experiencing since Apple no longer provides core updates to Power PCs. If its the latter then I finally got my first taste of Apple has no problem leaving you behind, starting with your Internet viewing experience.
I'm new to using a Mac (and thus the forums), however, I am generally PC literate. I have recently purchased an Elgato eyetv DTT TV tuner stick but for some reason can't get it to work. I have tried all the troubleshooting tips from the manufacturer (including software updates and resetting the PRAMS) but nothing seems to fix it. It keeps coming up with the error message 'Device Not Found In Setup Assistant' and therefore I can't watch any TV with it. The only thing I haven't done is tried plugging my mac directly into the wall, as opposed to the surge protected power board its in (it wont reach my wall powerpoint without great difficulty anyway). The product comes from a Mac authorised seller.Â
The other product i've been having trouble with is a trickle saver (TrickleStar brand). I connected it all up (including with and without the added trickle switch) but my Mac wouldn't power up. I tried plugging the trickle switch in at the wall, not just the surge protected powerboard (with individual switches) but the Mac still wouldn't power up. The product states that it is PC & Mac compatible. However, i've had NO trouble connecting my Seagate external hard drive. I've also switched around my mouse/keyboard into different USB ports to test that they all work and they are fine.So I'm wondering if these products are made for/compatible with Mac, why doesn't my iMac like them?
I have wired network with 4 port router cable, was fine, but decided to try 8 port wired router from linksys, plugged it in, does not work, it came with disc but it didn't seem to be a mac disc, so didn't run anything from it.
For the longest time (since 1998) I have built my own PC's for gaming. I finally decided to try a Mac for the first time two weeks ago. I wont go back. I have the 1499 3.2 ghz core i3 21.5" model and I am having a blast. This is what computing should be like. I play World of Warcraft on mine and enjoy it. I am selling the gaming PC I just gave my wife to get her a 3.02 ghz core i3 1199 model iMac with the ATI 4670 at 256mb, 4 gigs of ram.
I am thinking this should be able to run World of Warcraft ok. Not expecting the settings maxed, more on fair or good. I am just looking for a good playing experience. The 1199 is more in the budget for what we can do. Other than that it will be used for basic writing and email surfing. I know the 4670 is not much by todays standards but with a i3 in a mac I am thinking it should run fine, and work for at least 4 or so years down the road.
Using the calculator in OS X, enter "-2/3", (minus two divided by three). What do you get?
My calculator reports that answer as 0.666. (Positive NOT negative which is the correct answer). Is anyone else having the same problem? The calculator is giving out wrong answers! I have calculator version 4.2 running on 10.5.8.
I have had my mac book 4 months, and it fell from my couch and cracked the case around charging port, computer works fine, just doesn't charge. Apple store says I need new logic board, how could such a short fall result in such a costly fix, couldn't it be the DC input board?
I just installed vista home premium on my imac using bootcamp, so far everything is okay except my speakers. They seem really tinny and very weird, the audio software that boot camp installed is something called Realtek HD, does this have something to do with it? My speakers are fine on mac osx, why not on the windows partition? it's seriously unbearable, anyone else come across this? I can't seem to change or tweak anything from any of the preferences in the sound options or anything either. I'm using the built it speakers on the latest 24 inch imac.
My ibook has been working great and all of a sudden I have no display. It boots up fine, the eject button works, I can hear the volume if I turn it up or down. This is my second ibook and I really need this one to work! Its only 4 years old 800mhz,256,30GB. There are no apple repair places anywhere (other than the apple store) around here, so I'm not sure if there's something that I can do on my own?
I have a printer (Canon MX310) that is connected to my iMac, which is running Leopard. I've shared it via Sy Preferences > Sharing. I want to be able to print to it using my XP laptop. When I connect to my home wireless network, I can see the printer just fine in the list of printers on my laptop. But if I try and open it or send a print job to it, I get the following error: Access Denied, Unable to Connect. This is probably a very basic problem/question.
I'm currently using the previous generation Mac Mini as my HTPC, and I use a combination of VGA (w/ an adapter) and optical out to feed my A/V receiver. It works great, but it would be even better to use HDMI for better cable management, my receiver's on-screen display and HDCP support (for iTunes "HD" TV shows). I tried using a Monoprice HDMI adapter, and it worked, except that MacOS only allows me to enable/disable overscan completely and didn't let me tweak the amount of overscan. Couldn't get SwitchResX to work with my Samsung LCD TV after many tries. Didn't want to use JustScan either since my DirectTV receiver doesn't work well with it (and didn't want to enable/disable JustScan depending on my source). So, does anyone know if the new Mac Mini supports fine-tuning of overscan?
Ive been using windows 7 32bit to play battlefield bad company 2 via steam for about a month now with no problems. A week or so ago, I booted into bootcamp, loaded bc2, found a server, played for a few seconds then started noticing major lag. After a couple of minutes of this, the connection would be lost with the server and very shortly after the internet light on my router would go from green to red. I boot back into OS X and the connection goes back up. It now does this every single time i boot into bootcamp and the connection is always perfect in OS X. I tried reinstalling windows 7 (64bit this time) and the problem is still there.
I am hoping someone can give me some advice. I have a G4 Powerbook that I've had since 2003 (yes I know in computing terms that's ancient-but we were getting along fine...!) 15 inch, 1.25GHz/512/80/SD. Replacement battery about 18mths ago, no other problems.
On Wednesday evening it completely froze and I had to press and hold the power button to turn it off. And that was it, nothing more, no whirring, no noise-It just won't do anything. Have tried resetting the PMU-several times, ac cable and battery are fine.
Something seems to be wrong with my MobileMe syncing. I recently did a hard drive replacement in my MBP due to a failing hard drive. I did a complete mirror of my hard drive and everything is working fine except for MobileMe. I am able to sync all MobileMe items except for the Calender. When it gets to alendar syncing a window pops up with the following:
You need to replace your Calendar information on MobileMe
If this computer has the most current information, click Replace. If the most current information is on another computer, cick Fix Later and replace your information on that computer.
Obviously my only two options to click are Fix Later and Replace.
The problem is while I was unable to use my computer I was using my iPhone mostly with the calendar which of course synced to my MobileMe account. I don't want to choose Replace since this computer was not used for approximately 2 weeks so is not at all up to date. I can choose Fix Later but I never get any other options. I simply need to have this computer get the information from MobileMe and place it on this computer since both my iphone and MobileMe is up to date but I never get that option. How do I do this (take info from MobileMe and put on this computer)?
I'm having a strange issue after upgrading to Leopard. When I try to open certain pages in Safari it instantly gives me the "Safari can?t find the server" message. When I try to open the same page in Firefox at the same time it opens normally. For many pages (like this one) Safari is working fine. My connection seems good and this is happening on reliable sites (currently Safari won't open apple.com).
I'm very shocked about what happened today. I convinced my friend to get a macbook pro since he could run windows and mac (and at the same time through vmware fusion) so he went out and got a 17" macbook pro (don't post about how he should have waited for the January update cause already told him and he didn't care). Well he bought a vista upgrade installation dvd through the university of texas and it worked fine with bootcamp.
He purchased it for $34 and had no previous version of xp or any other version of windows for that matter and the upgrade dvd worked fine with the boot camp installation. Is the upgrade version he got through ut different than the standard retail vista ultimate upgrade dvd? All we did was select clean install of windows operating system as the upgrade selection was grayed out since there was no previous version of windows. Then clicked on advanced, formatted bootcamp created disk, and installed
