I have wired network with 4 port router cable, was fine, but decided to try 8 port wired router from linksys, plugged it in, does not work, it came with disc but it didn't seem to be a mac disc, so didn't run anything from it.

I'm new to using a Mac (and thus the forums), however, I am generally PC literate. I have recently purchased an Elgato eyetv DTT TV tuner stick but for some reason can't get it to work. I have tried all the troubleshooting tips from the manufacturer (including software updates and resetting the PRAMS) but nothing seems to fix it. It keeps coming up with the error message 'Device Not Found In Setup Assistant' and therefore I can't watch any TV with it. The only thing I haven't done is tried plugging my mac directly into the wall, as opposed to the surge protected power board its in (it wont reach my wall powerpoint without great difficulty anyway). The product comes from a Mac authorised seller.
The other product i've been having trouble with is a trickle saver (TrickleStar brand). I connected it all up (including with and without the added trickle switch) but my Mac wouldn't power up. I tried plugging the trickle switch in at the wall, not just the surge protected powerboard (with individual switches) but the Mac still wouldn't power up. The product states that it is PC & Mac compatible. However, i've had NO trouble connecting my Seagate external hard drive. I've also switched around my mouse/keyboard into different USB ports to test that they all work and they are fine.So I'm wondering if these products are made for/compatible with Mac, why doesn't my iMac like them?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have searched this forum and the internet. My number pad on the right side of my keyboard works with everything EXCEPT the calculator. What did I do? cannot find anything anywhere to address just that. The numbers work fine everywhere else.
I did all the jumps to make sure on the system pref and the mouse off, holding my tongue just right and jumping five times...hitting the option key five times, the fn button and the clear button. the number work everywhere but on the calculator.
I'm using the printer that came with my Mac when I bought it, last year. (Photosmart C4385 All-In-One)
After working fine, suddenly, the scanner doesn't want to work. Another computer in the house, a HP Desktop seems to work fine, but as far as my far superior Mac, I get a scan error message. this happens in both wireless and connected. The printer is working fine in both wireless and connected methods.
Worse, HP is no longer allowing for on-line support via chat for Mac users! Then when trying to call them, they say that their call centers are not available. It almost seems as if HP doesn't want to hassle with Mac related problems.
Are any of you having similar issues?
When I open Safari no page opens - I am the administrator. The pull down commands are at the top, but most of them are in gray and don't work, even the quit command. Safari appears to work fine when I log in as a different user. I have done a disk repair and verify and have had no luck. I also downloaded OnyX and did a system clean - still no change. One of the other Apple groups said to empty my cache and last few internet plug ins. None of this has worked. I would like to continue using Safari as I am very comfortable with it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Elgato EyeTV Digital TV Recorder Version 2.5.3 (3313) running under OSX version 10.4.11 and using a Miglia TVMini (TVM01) USB 2.0 DVB-T Digital Video Recorder device.
Recently, (after no software changes except maybe a osx/safari/itunes update, but I can't imagine why this would cause a problem), certain channels now display "No Signal", and when I check the preferences Signal info, these channels have a strength and quality of 0%. This seemed to happen all of a sudden, and I now cannot get the channels working again (despite trying a signal booster, re-scanning all channels) while other receivers (i.e. a TV) seem to work fine from the same input.
A full listing of the channel titles (and numbers) which are displayed as having 0% strength and quality are: Yesterday (12), 4music (18), Film4 (15), Viva (21), Ideal World (22), ITV4 (24), Dave ja vu (35), Big Deal (32), Virgin+1 (35), Create & Craft (36), Rocks & Co (40), Lottery Xtra (45) Russia Today (85), smileTV2 (94), Babestation (96), Babestation2 (99).
how to get these channels back working again?
I have got a macbook pro and an iPhone5 .. my macbook and my iPhone connected to the same WiFi but for some reason the airplay don't work .. so I tried to use a (cable) goes from the router to the macbook .. and i turned on (sharing internet) so my macbook can become a WiFi .. from that my iPhone is connected to the WiFi (macbook pro WiFi) and the airplay was working fine .. the thing is i don't like the cable idea because my router on the first floor and my macbook on the second floor.. so any one have any tips for me .. by the way i need the airplay because i was streaming using (Reflector)

My friend just got a 1.25GHz MDD but he says he is having problems with it. He says that when he starts it up, his mouse light (sensor) flickers and the keyboard does not work. The only way to fix this is to unplug and replug in the peripherals. He also tried on his Studio Display connected via ADC and the same thing happens. Could a PCI USB card help his problems or is there some way to fix the current USB ports?

I have called their respective tech support services and gotten no relief. One actually said that my computer has the wrong IP address. Is that even possible? Unfortunately, the other computer that I want to put on the network is a PC, but is a work computer and work will not let me have the access code to upload anything.

I have a problem on my IMac 27" (early 2010) when I want so listen to some CD. The Superdive doesn't read the disc (is clean of course) and it ejects after a few tried. On the other hand, no problems with DVD. So I don't know if is a software problem.

I'm going to try and keep this as simple as possible. Last night I went to use my imac and for some reason every wed page I would try and go to either wouldn't open, would time out, or would load so slowly as to be almost no use at all. I reset my modem (I use a wired, ethernet connection) and everything was fine with the internet connection (or so it seemed) because I checked to see if I was able to torrent for instance and that worked just fine. The problem seemes to be based solely around browsing the internet (using both safari and chrome).

After connecting the imac to a new router the system hung completely up. After each input, e.g. opening preview or a browser, the coloured turning disc appeared and nothing happened anymore. Several restarts, also in safe mode, were unsuccessful. I could not switch to another user. Restart is only possible at all from installation disc but thereafter problem remains the same.

Howver when I print I get code on first page followed by masses of blank pages.To solve this I downloaded ghost and gimp printers and managed to get it to print.However quality is really poor when compared to old printes fonts are jagged etc. Any ideas to get it up to speed with exactly same machine?

My imac is around 4 years old and has been running both windows bootcamp and os x snow leopard for at least 3 years without any problems. My default operating system is mac and when I tried to turn it on this morning it gets stuck on the white screen with the grey apple icon and the loading icon spinning. Also a bar appears below this that I have never seen before. I have tried opening the mac in recovery mode but it does not respond and goes to the same logo screen.
I have tried holding the 'D' key down while the mac comes on and doing the apple hardware test but once the window pops up it does not complete the probing and appears to freeze just before its completion. I have also tried booting in safemode but the script stops at these commands:
-launch tl: Please convert the following to launchd: etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisory.plist
-launch_msg(): socket is not connected
However, the windows bootcamp is working fine and I can access my mac files from there.Also worth mentioning is that it is not a grey screen that appears on start up it is just the normal apple icon screen.

Everyone else in my house can connect to the Router but for some reason I can't - I try going through the network diagnostics for Airport and the first 2 steps turn green, but the rest remain red. It keeps changing from 'No IP Address' to something about a self-adressed IP address. I went into my network utilities and it appears that I don't have an IP address (according to that)? Right now it's just impossible to connect to the Internet.
