OS X :: See The Printer Just Fine In The List Of Printers On My Laptop?
Apr 5, 2009
I have a printer (Canon MX310) that is connected to my iMac, which is running Leopard. I've shared it via Sy Preferences > Sharing. I want to be able to print to it using my XP laptop. When I connect to my home wireless network, I can see the printer just fine in the list of printers on my laptop. But if I try and open it or send a print job to it, I get the following error: Access Denied, Unable to Connect. This is probably a very basic problem/question.
i have a HP colorlaserjet 2840 (network)printer connected (fixed ip adres, cable) to a router. Have a windows laptop and an ibook (macOsX tiger) connected wireless to the router. Can print fine from the windows laptop to the printer. Internet and email work fine on both the laptop and ibook.
Can anybody tell me how i can get the ibook to print (wireless) to the printer. I allready downloaded the driver from the HP site and try to add the printer through Ip printing. This appaers to have gone allright but when i try to print nothing happens, I don't see a printjob in the cue.
I seem to be unable to add PDF to my list of printers, as I have been able to do in the past. Is it no longer necessary to add a .PPD file to print directly to PDF from, say, Illustrator or InDesign?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB RAM
In Lion, System Preference, Print & Scan, Printer column, +... Takes you to your list of printers. I would like to remove all of those printers, to start fresh. How can I do this?
I want to connect a wireless Epson XP 510 printer. Installed drivers from the Epson website but they do not appear to be compatible according to the drop down list in the apple menu for adding a printer.
System Preferences / Printers: Says No printers are available.
Clicked on + to add printer: Add screen is devoid of any printers; says "no selection" in both Name and Location fields
Printer involved:
Epson Work Force WF-3540 - have had it for about a year and it has been working with no problems
Had a printer jam I couldn't find; rebooted a few times, etc. Eventually found the jam and then the above problem started. (I'm embarrassed to say that I found a toothpick inside the printer. It was once sitting on top and must have rolled under and in.)
All software up to date, except for a Pages update.
History of where I looked and actions taken (not necessarily in order):
Library/Printers was (and still is) empty, not the least because of multiple printing system resets.
-Have attempted to restore Printers directory from TimeMachine, with no luck. Epson printer drivers were restored, but System Preferences/Printers still blank. -Have attempted to install original printer software from disk, but it hangs in the middle, saying that no printer connection can be found, despite printing being online. -Have attempted to run Software Update to get latest printer drivers, but Software Update says that it is up to date and won't let me rerun. -Have run disk utility to verify: disk = okay -Have run verify disk permissions. Had loads of permission errors related to the printer library -Have run repair disk permissions -Have done the last two steps many times, but disk permissions don't get fixed and original problem has not changed.
Unplugged everything, took a break, factory reset printer, started all over. Nothing worked.
Also did the RESET THE PRINTING SYSTEM. Doesn't work. OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Also tried to download the drivers from Epson, but they just tell you to use Software Update and I already mentioned that doesn't work.
The only thing in the disk permissions list that looked suspicious was this message:
Group differs on "Library/Printers"; should be 80; group is 0 (repeated for various sub-directories (Icons and PPDs))
I've seen previous discussions regarding problems installing a Dell printer. I have a Dell 962 wireless printer. I did find the compatible Mac driver R92834 and I did install the driver. However, when I try to add the printer, I can't find the printer in the drop down list. Am I supposed to be looking for a Lexmark printer? If so, I have no idea what model is equivalent to the Dell 962 AIO. The model sticker is 4409-0d1. A search for this model returns nothing. I'm a newbie with Macs. OS is 10.4.3. Got any ideas?

I've spent the morning trying to get printer sharing to work for the following situation, additionally illustrated by the attached image: I have a network centered around a Belkin router. An iMac is connected to it with an Ethernet cable, a HP PSC 2110 printer is in turn connected to the iMac with a USB cable.
Wirelessly, a number of laptops connect to the network. There is a MacBook Pro, that doesn't have a single issue whatsoever. Also, there is a DELL Inspiron 9400 running XP with Service Pack 3, protected by a McAfee security suite. What I'm desperately trying to do, is to enable the DELL to wirelessly print from the HP printer connected to the iMac. Obviously the iMac itself is able to print, and the MacBook Pro plays nice as well.
Now, there are about a million threads on this topic, with situations quite similar, but none of the solutions proposed anywhere seem to get the whole thing running. For this reason, I decided to have people shine their light on exactly my own situation, in case I am missing something.
The Bonjour software on the DELL is up-to-date, but giving the "No Bonjour printers are available" message (I'm not sure about the exact wording, since in my situation it is in Dutch.) The McAfee firewall is set to allow Bonjour full network access, and additionally UDP port 5353 is opened up. Obviously Printer Sharing is turned on on the iMac.I'm at a complete loss, so I came here to look for an answer. Or someone to tell me to forget it, it's not going to happen. I'd take anything right now.
How can I add a Epson Stylus SX445w to my Mac Book Pro...This is the second one I've tried and failing miserably..I've installed poken to the help line at Epson and they say it's down to Apple.
I have recently brought Apple MacBook pro 13 inch, iam trying to add my printer Hp laserjet 1018 ,but my macbook identified the printer but DID NOT PRINT. I did not understand why it did not print.
I have a Brother MFC-8220 connected to my Airport Extreme via USB from my AT&T U-verse modem. I keep getting a message during startup saying "The printer 'Brother MFC-8220' could not be found in your list of printers". I checked my printer list and it's there. The only change I've made recently is switching from Comcast to AT&T U-verse, and from the Comcast modem to the AT&T modem. My wife has a MacBook that connects wirelessly, and she does not get this message. I'm just stumped as to what is triggering this message. [URL]
Bought a HP Laserjet Pro 8500 A909g. I have installed software but driver never appears in list so there is an option to manually select it. Sometimes the printer then appears and other times it doesn't. Message then appears: If your device is not listed it is not supported by this installer. Downloaded installer again from HP but still no good. Printer is wireless but was given USB cable to connect to Macbook Pro as don't have internet at home and was told it would be no problem. Message now appearing saying if USB port on printer is at front (mine is) do not connect to USB on Macbook. However, it doesn't bother to tell me how to connect it any other way. Nothing in manual. Running out of patience. Just starting working for myself and have clients waiting for designs which I can't even print off.
I am trying to get G5 (10.4) to use a network printer MP160 connected to a windows XP machine. This is what I have done so far: Downloaded and installed the latest MP160 printer package for the Mac. Plugged the MP160 directly into the Mac USB port, the printer is instantly recognised and is installed as the default printer. It prints just fine. This leads me to believe the MP160 driver exists in the Mac. Now I transfer the printer to the XP. Using another (wireless) networked windows laptop I have no problem printing to the XP printer so that shows the sharing is working correctly. At the Mac I open printer setup. I then add the printer, selecting it, where I see it listed on the XP machine in (mac) Windows Printing/Network Neighbourhood. The printer name is seen just as it is on the XP.
Now the point it all goes wrong. During the setup, the utility ask me to select the printer model I want to add from a list it displays under the canon group of drivers. No matter what I do the list cannot be updated or amended to include the MP160 model. The BJ gimp drivers don't appear to support the MP160. I get the print job message "Gimp printing.....20%" and various values depending on the model selected and eventually, "NT status network bad name error". The generic printer driver returns the same error. I have tried just about every type of connection using the setup utility and localhost 631 but I always end up at the same point, not being able to select the model. There are no networking issues as far as I can see. The Mac can see and use shared files on the windows machines.
I'm having some trouble adding network printers in Tiger. If I open the print&fax window and then click on the "+" sign to add printers, nothing comes up. I thought a new screen was supposed to pop up, but nothing happens. If I try to print something from Word or Excel and select "add printer" in the print menu, also nothing happens. I do find a list of "bonjour printers", but I'm not sure how this can help me. So in the end it seems I can't add any printers at all, and thus not print.
I have an HP printer hardwired to my iMAC and have been sharing the printer, wirelessly through the home network, with an older Powerbook G4. I've added a third laptop (Mac Pro) which also shares the Wireless network, but can see the Printer online. I get a message that the Printer is not Online.
why the third laptop can't see the printer online?
I was reviewing audio books on my wish list and the list just became empty. I have stopped and restarted iTunes and I have manually re-logged into my apple account but the list keeps coming up empty. I have tried both the shortcut on the top right and from the drop down on the top left but nothing. Is this a temporary issue with Apple..I'm on a Mac running OS10.9.4 and iTunes 11.3.1
also, their all .avi video's. and i'm really confused! also, quicktime isn't letting me play .avi videos for some reason! and vlc won't download for me. and i'll put them on a USB but they wont download on my computer!
I have a Konica Minolta Bizhub C451 Printer I noticed that the drivers are not yet 64 bit compliant so I searched KM web site and download the latest drivers in the hope that they would be compliant (They were not) So the fix here (Mainly Safari, iCab & Textedit, is to open them in 32 bit mode (Command I, more information, click open in 32 bit mode). After installing I could not print with a message saying the drivers were not correctly installed.
I have recently freshly installed Leopard and upgraded to 10.5.8 before attempting to print on my Mac Pro.
When I tried to add my printers it found nothing. I also have a Mini on 10.5.8, on which I deleted both printers and they were both located and added straight away.
Having spent the afternoon searching for answers, about the only hint was to change to a static IP, rather than use DHCP. After doing so, one of my printers showed up immediately, but then OS X could not resolve what drivers to use. It still didn't find the second printer.
We have four 10.5.8 Macs and two 10.4.x Macs on the network. All except the Pro are happily using both printers, so it must be something dodgy on my Pro, just no idea what.
I've got the firewall set to allow everything and I've got print sharing turned on. All the Macs and printers are on the same subnet.
Edit: I should add that the printers' web interfaces are fully accessible, and of course they ping fine.
I bought a used Mac Mini (2.0GHz, 4GB Ram-seller bought in July '09) this last week. It has Snow Leopard (10.6.1). It started off with trying to install my HP printer that is shared out on a Windows XP machine. Originally when I turned on the Mini, I could see all the Windows machines (two Vista and one XP) machines on my WIFI network. I used the printer & fax function in system preference to add the printer (I could see it in the list under Windows). I sent over a couple print jobs, Mac shows it is gone, Windows machine shows the job in the printer Queue. Eventually the job simply goes away after 1-2 minutes with nothing coming out.
Connecting to Samsung printer on Windows PCI connected to my Samsung ML 1610 from the MBP using the CUPS link. on sending the test page to the printer it activates but does not print the test page. It does not print any documents pages either. Incidentally the drop down list in the CUPS link did not show my model so I clicked the next nearest printer the Samsunb ML 1630. The same thing happens on connecting with my office Cannon LBP 2900 using the CUPS link. Neither printer prints! both are shared, there are no firewall issues,
