(A) Does anyone know what the weight of the stand that comes with one of the new 27" iMac weighs alone?
(B) If not, is there anyone who (i) has removed their stand and has it at hand, and (ii) has a functioning weighing device available for use?
(C) if neither, thanks for reading, and goodnight!
Which speakers are better, the ones that come built-in on the '09 24" iMac or Logitech X230? I'm not sure what the iMac's speaker stats are, but here are the stats for x230's:

Satellites: 12 W RMS (6 W x 2)
Subwoofer: 20 W RMS
# Total peak power: 64 W
# Frequency response: 40Hz - 20kHz

Reason I ask is that I have the x230's and they're considered as cheap speakers, so I don't know if I should use them with the iMac or not. The one advantage I see them having over the iMac's is that they have a 20w subwoofer, but I don't know if the satellites are better or not.
I just placed an order for the 24" iMac. Apple lists the weight of this machine as 25 lbs. I intend for it to be my primary desktop machine, claiming its residence atop my computer desk which is made of 8mm-thick tempered glass and aluminum framing.My only concern is that 25 lbs might be too heavy for the glass. Unfortunately I cannot find a maximum load specification for the desk anywhere. If I can find the manufacturer's number I'll certainly call them but I can't find that either. So, anyone here have a similar setup and care to comment? Coming home and finding shattered glass and 2 grand of mangled hardware wouldn't make for a happy time!

..or at least the shelf on top that stabilizes it.
Are there instructions anywhere as to how to remove the 27" iMac from the stand holding it up? I want to transport it without the stand attached and reattach it. Do I need any special tools? Can't find anything via google or other forums on exactly how to do this. It can't be too hard being that the Vesa mount is suppose to be easy to put on.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a used iMac from a seller on ebay. Everything works perfect, iSight camera is excellent. I tried recording a video and it worked, when I played it back it had no sound at all. I already tried going to system preferences and changing it to built-in microphone. I also reset the PRAM. I don't know what else to do!!
It has the version 10.6.8 installed, I don't know if that has anything to do with the mic not working.

A bit silly perhaps, but I was curious if anyone has ever considered removing the optical drive on their MBP in order to save weight. If you do not use it, and don't need to attach a 2nd HD inside, can you not just simply remove it and make your MBP lighter?I looked around for some specs on the internal drive but could not find how much it weighed. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel 24" iMac running 10.4.something (sorry I'm vague but I'm not at my office) The mac is part of a mini network of 3 iMacs, all working perfectly until yesterday when one of them wouldn't print to my network printer. I had a look at the network settings and it was showing "Built-In Ethernet" as inactive. All the other macs work fine. I tried switching the cables from other macs to establish if I had a cable problem. Still no success. I switched ports on the hub also. Same issues.
As all the others are still working fine, I guess the problem must be with the mac, nothing else. The crazy thing is, the mac nadn't even had a reboot when it stopped working. I just woke it from sleep in the morning and that was that.
Looking at the new MBP 13 vs. MBA I'm thinking about why I'm interested in the MBA in the first place. The 15" isn't that much heavier than the 13". From 2.5kg to 2kg I would save about 20% weight. And get a smaller screen. Is that really worth it?
On the other hand the MBA will save about 45% weight.
