I am moving my imac 24' from Europe to the states in my baggage. The stand mustbe removed to fit it in. Some models allow a business card or credit card to insert in the lever of the stand and the back of the imac housing where the stand is attached to. Thus oin pulling the stand levekl down with the acard inserted you will see a few srerws to unscrew to removing the stand. This is not with this imac 24' intel model number (A1225)

I Do Not care for this huge box that pops up now when I do a search on Safari. I wish they would not have added this lame duck that always seems to be in the way. How to get rid of this albatross?

I'm looking for a stand specifically designed for an iMac. Does anyone know where I can find one? I think I need something around 3-5 inches higher?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhich speakers are better, the ones that come built-in on the '09 24" iMac or Logitech X230? I'm not sure what the iMac's speaker stats are, but here are the stats for x230's:
# Total RMS power: 32 W RMS
Satellites: 12 W RMS (6 W x 2)
Subwoofer: 20 W RMS
# Total peak power: 64 W
# Frequency response: 40Hz - 20kHz
# Drivers:
Satellites: (2) 2" drivers per satellite
Subwoofer: 5.25" ported driver
# Speaker dimensions (H x W x D, cm):
Satellites: 20.3 X 6.4 X 7.6
Subwoofer: 22.9 x 15.2 x23.5
# Signal-to-noise ratio: >96dB
Reason I ask is that I have the x230's and they're considered as cheap speakers, so I don't know if I should use them with the iMac or not. The one advantage I see them having over the iMac's is that they have a 20w subwoofer, but I don't know if the satellites are better or not.
I mean when it is upright on a desk, not just length measurements for the screen. I am afraid that the 27'' might have put my current desk out of commission
..or at least the shelf on top that stabilizes it.
Are there instructions anywhere as to how to remove the 27" iMac from the stand holding it up? I want to transport it without the stand attached and reattach it. Do I need any special tools? Can't find anything via google or other forums on exactly how to do this. It can't be too hard being that the Vesa mount is suppose to be easy to put on.

(A) Does anyone know what the weight of the stand that comes with one of the new 27" iMac weighs alone?
(B) If not, is there anyone who (i) has removed their stand and has it at hand, and (ii) has a functioning weighing device available for use?
(C) if neither, thanks for reading, and goodnight!
Just wondering if anyone owns the slimkey iMac stand from macessity this or a similar model?
I'm just wondering if the stand is high and wide enough to accomodate the magic mouse next to the wireless keyboard, as this will really help to keep my desk tidy when i'm not using my iMac.
does anyone know the exact dimensions of the new 27" iMac without the stand attached? The depth would be nice too...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just received my new IMac and was starting to do some typing for a school project when I noticed that the keyboard bottom stand was uneven so whenever I type it bounces much like a chair with uneven legs. I was wondering what to do because now I have to stick a credit card underneath it to keep it from moving.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf there's a thread on this, feel free to close this one, but I searched and couldn't find anything. I need a guide on how to remove the display casing on a unibody MBP with an anti glare screen. Specifically, how to remove the actual top shell, where the Apple logo is. The LCD panel itself, I don't need to take apart. Is this possible? If someone has a link to a guide, that would be awesome.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an old PowerBook G4 (15" alum) that has a dodgy screen that I want to replace. I have another old (non-working) PBG4 and so I want to replace the bad screen with the one from the non-working machine. However, all the instructions that I have found online involve complete disassembly of the whole thing in order to take the actual LCD screen out of the display casing or lid. Is there a way of just disconnecting the entire "lid+screen" at the hinges and then putting on a new "lid+screen"?

I have just seen another thread here which links to the following Apple KB article about running in clamshell mode. [URL]. It says something about putting your laptop to sleep before removing the external monitor. I am not running in clamshell mode but I have a dual screen setup using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. When I take my MBP (2010 - see sig) off my desk, do I need to put it to sleep to remove the Mini DisplayPort connector, and, if so, does anyone know why this is necessary?

I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
The full screen mode of Preview always shows a small grey bubble on the botton of the screen that indicates the page number. I would like to remove this page numbering. Is that possible? Since the page numbers are not on the pdf itsself but created by Preview I could not find how to remove them. I added a screen shot to indicate which page numbering I mean.

i am having a weird problem with my brand new imac.. I bought it custom made last friday with ATI Radeon HD 4850. Now here is my issue.. Every time i boot up it takes a while for the screen to turn on. I hear the start up sound and HDD working and all that but screen stays off for another 5+ sec. before finally going grey before apple logo comes up. Now I thought this isn't an issue since i did order it with ATI card instead of standard Nvidia. Figured different cards react differently. However, later on after playing a game for few hours and doing a restart it would do the same thing, but the screen would never turn on. Just stay black forever until i shut it down and wait a minute or two then power it back on. So to clear this up. What happens is, i push power button, start up sound happens, then black.... like it is off, not even the back light. This only happens every few days, not every restart.. I reset SMC, PRAM, ran hardware test, spoke with apple on phone, went to genius bar, and after all that and being passed around now the apple engineers are looking into my problem and i am expecting a call back from them. So i guess my question is, is there anyone else with this setup (ATI Radion) that has this issue?

Just wondering if anyone could help me figure this out.
I have my 40" flat screen plugged into my imac via VGA cable to mirror the image.
I'm just trying to have the imac display sleep while I play a movie full screen through the external TV.
I've tried two different ways but both have failed.
1-I set up a hot corner in the imac to sleep display but this results in both the display and the TV sleeping.
2-I just set the power settings to sleep after 1 minute. This works but then If a movie is playing the computer won't go to sleep.
Purchased a brand new 27" i7 imac a few weeks ago, display is awesome!!! I was using my old 28" LCD monitor from my PC and running dual displays on the iMac. The 28" LCD monitor annoyed me a bit because i could not get the same color/crispness/brightness that i got from the iMac. ( also it has a Matt screen and i am more into the glossy screens ) So i found a used 24" cinema display locally. Paid 600.00 and it came with 2 yrs of AppleCare. It is only 7 months old ( still have 5 months under orignal warranty ) Got home, hooked it up and it had a "hint" of yellowness to it, It wasn't a exact image of my iMacs display...I tried to calibrate it also, but it still had just a HINT of yellowness....Nothing at all major, but enough for me to be annoyed with it.

I could not even get to the Startup Manager ('opt' at boot) or boot straight to the disc ('C').Now i'm in a position where no matter what i do, the system boots to the linux disc. I cannot even force the startup into OSX to try to eject the disc from there. I've tried holding all of these keys/combinations at startup
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a 23" monitor to replace my iMacs 17" display (since it has a nasty crack in one of the corners). I hooked it up fine and all, but the displays are linked, allowing me to hover the mouse to the iMac's display which I find annoying most of the time.
Is there a way to make the iMac display zone out and just use the external by itself?
As you can tell by the thread title I've got one of the latest model iMacs and I'm running an LED Cinema Display as a second monitor. When it gets to the late hours I like to watch some movies on the Mac so I figured the Cinema Display would be a nice addition to do the job.
Now here's my issue: if it's late and I'm watching movies I tend to not have any lights on, but having one of the displays on means having both of them on, what I'm wondering is if it's possible to sleep one display while allowing the other to stay active so I can watch the movie without the light from the other one distracting
I'm interested in the new iMac but could not work with a glossy display. Can anyone share their experiences of using the iMac with an external display? In one respect it seems like a waste to have two monitors but the base model costs little more than the maxed out Mini and seems like the better option.
I would be interested in seeing photos of any setups featuring the iMac and an external display.
Also, is there a way to turn off the iMac display when using an external display?
