I have audio but my mic wont work can anyone tell me if I buy a usb mic would it fix the problem or still wont work because of the driver? or if I buy a usb headset? I want to use ventrilo but my built in mic wont work on windows xp.

I bought a used iMac from a seller on ebay. Everything works perfect, iSight camera is excellent. I tried recording a video and it worked, when I played it back it had no sound at all. I already tried going to system preferences and changing it to built-in microphone. I also reset the PRAM. I don't know what else to do!!
It has the version 10.6.8 installed, I don't know if that has anything to do with the mic not working.

It works in the widget mode, that is, when I press F3, the dictionary shows on the screen as usual, but it doesn't show up when I click on the dictionary icon under the applications menu.

I'm a recent PC to iMac convert and have hooked up my iMac to my TV receiver (DVI to HDMI connector and a Toslink cable to the audio). The issue is as soon as I plug in the audio connector the iMac speakers stop working. I'd like to leave the connector plugged in and still be able to use the iMac speakers. Of course when I play a movie on the TV I'd just mute the iMac speakers.

Which speakers are better, the ones that come built-in on the '09 24" iMac or Logitech X230? I'm not sure what the iMac's speaker stats are, but here are the stats for x230's:

The iSight just won't focus properly. If I hold my hand right up close to it it picks it up fine, but just a normal face shot it's so bright you can hardly make out the face?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel 24" iMac running 10.4.something (sorry I'm vague but I'm not at my office) The mac is part of a mini network of 3 iMacs, all working perfectly until yesterday when one of them wouldn't print to my network printer. I had a look at the network settings and it was showing "Built-In Ethernet" as inactive. All the other macs work fine. I tried switching the cables from other macs to establish if I had a cable problem. Still no success. I switched ports on the hub also. Same issues.
As all the others are still working fine, I guess the problem must be with the mac, nothing else. The crazy thing is, the mac nadn't even had a reboot when it stopped working. I just woke it from sleep in the morning and that was that.
I recently replaced the RAM on my aluminum iMac from 1gb to 4gb. Can I put the 1gb RAM in my older white iMac which has only 512mb RAM? These are the exact 2 iMac's I have.(not my pic)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am saving to get a new imac for use with Adobe CS4 (eventually 5, when it's released) and Final Cut Studio...I know CS4 will work the duo core 21.5 imac (i'd get the $1500 and upgrade RAM later on), but am wondering if i should stick it out for the Quad core, so i'll be ready for CS5...I know it's not released yet, but do you guys figure CS5 will/should be compatible on the 21.5 imac?

My shinny new Mac Pro Quad 2.8 defaults to the built in speaker and not my attached external logitec speakers. Every time I want to watch or listen to something I have to navigate to the sounds panel and select Line Out. Everything is connected properly and this never happened on my MacBook Pro.

It was given to me because the built in CRT came on purple every other start up Now it will not come on at all even though I can still hear the loud noise from the Degauss cable and the Power Supply and I feel the tube still throwing off alot of heat like a CRT does. I can get a picture on an external monitor as a mirror but not as a main monitor. So three questions is it safe to use this way with an external monitor and the built in CRT still attached? and how would I go about disconnecting the Built in CRT?, is there any way to fix this? Currently the HDD is blank as thats the way it was given to me but I was also given the restore DVD of OSX 10.4 from another Mac.
What would be the proper step-by-step instruction to setup an ftp server using the built-in feature in OSX 10.5.6, so the user is locked into a specific folder only, and obviously to make it as secure as possible? Also what if you want to have multiple users, and/or different ports (instead of default 21)?

I want the computer to use the built-in mic on my MacBook Pro, but I want to be able to use my headphones (which have a built in microphone). I have to hold the mic up to my mouth practically, but with the built in mic I don't have to. I have played with the input volume in System Preferences for each option; still doesn't work how I like it. This is for video chat in iChat.

I want a device which lets me plug multiple hard drives into it so it can act like a hub, but which also allows me to access any of the drives over the network when I want to. A NAS wouldn't work because I want the ability to remove the drive without having to put it in another enclosure etc. I'd rather just swap it and go.
