i have a Mac Pro 1,1 (2007) running 10.6.2 with Boot Camp 3.0.1 and i want to install some version of Windows 64 bit via Boot Camp so i can utilize all of my RAM for playing PC games.
I've already done a bit of research on this, but i cannot get a clear consensus on which ones will work (if any).
Does anyone know of any versions of 64 bit Windows that i can use to successfully install on my Mac Pro 1,1 with boot camp?
I just read the seed notes for Snow leopard latest build and when reading what I can test 64 bit apps with seems pretty much any mac in -08 and -09 except (!) MBA and minis.
Any idea why?
I thought at least the MBA rev B would be 64-bit capable...?
My apologizies if this has been discussed but if so I have missed it.
I Have an Imac that is a couple of years old (2006 white). Here is the system profiler specs:
Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac4,1 Processor Name: Intel Core Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache (per processor):2 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 667 MHz Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B08 SMC Version: 1.1f5
My daughter just bought Ilife 09, and while I was reading the requirements, it says it requires OSX 10.5 (Leopard). I am running 10.4.11. I would buy Leopard, but I heard it needs a computer with a minimum bus speed of 867 MHz. It seems to be a domino effect. I would buy it, but I cannot return it opened.
I have always liked the iMac G4 since i was a little kid and thought that the computer in the commercial looked cool. I wanted to get one for my birthday but my dad thinks that since it is like 5 years old it would not be capable of performing the tasks i do every day, like watching videos and listening to music on iTunes, watching YouTube videos, going on facebook; twitter; and other Adobe Flash and Java based websites. Does anybody who owns a mac know if it plays videos well, if it supports modern Adobe and Java players, and if it is generally a fast computer?
I did a bit of reading on the internet, and it looks like most computers will not boot into 32-bit mode by default with 10.6. It appears that if while booting the user holds the 6 and 4 keys, the computer will boot into 64-bit mode.
Does anyone know anything about this? Will the computer always boot into 64-bit mode if this is done once? Will it even make a difference? Will the average user want to do this?
running OSX Lion on iMac Photoshop will not open. It says I need to update Java Runtime, but I do not have any updates. It says I am not connected to the internet and I am obviously since I am here.
I just brought a brand new IMAC 21.5" the base model (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics) with 4 gb RAM. I downloaded the trial version of adobe cs5 to check if it runs ok but when I am starting things from scratch like just creating things from a blank canvas it runs so slow like trying to paint stuff and render it comes up with a loading screen it just doesnt do it straight away. But when I am working on photos it seems to run ok. Is there away to solve this issue? Do I need to updated my RAM to make it run smooth?
I tried to boot my mid 2009 macbook pro running snow leopard into 64 bit mode by holding down the 6 and the 4 key on the keyboard after shutting it down and then powering it back up again, it won't start up, it's stuck at the apple symbol with the rolling cursor
I am an IT student who is studying Vmware, Oracle11g, MCITP, Linux ,CCNA, and etc.. Is it good to have a "Built To Order MacBook Air 13"" (256GB SSD 4GBram 2.1GHz C2D ) to run a windows server 2008 virtual machine with oracle 11gR1 installed on it? Or is it better to run that VM on a mac book pro 17" (Core i7 2.66CPU, 4GB ram ,500GB 5400rpm harddrive)? or 7200rpm HD? Air got a faster Storage drive (SSD) but slower CPU. Pro got a faster Cpu but slower storage drive (HD drive). I am so confused>< Pro or air which one has a better performance for running that vm? which one's battery life last longer for running that vm?
My 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.
I have a Photoshop plugin that only runs in 32-bit mode. So when I upgraded to CS6 I've kept CS5 and launch it in 32-bit mode when I want to use the plugin (CS6 doesn't run in 32-bit mode). Will I be able to run CS5 this way when OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is released?
Does this mean that an external hard drive with firewire 800 will be no good to me? Or does mean that the last firewire device was only capable of 400 mb/sec?
My first question is, what will the 4850M GPU be capable of? Say in terms of playing Crysis: Warhead and BFBC2?
My current system is a 08 Mac Pro Octo @ 3.0GHz, 18GB 800MHz RAM, GTX 285, and Intel X25-M G2 SSD, 1920x1200 res on a 23" ACD.
How comparable is the 4850M 512MB to the GTX 285 1GB? Could I play Crysis on medium settings w/ no AA @ 2560x1440?
My second question is, how easily can I install an Intel X25-M G2 SSD? Also will I be able to take the iMac into the store and get them to install the SSD?
My third question is, will I notice much of an improvement over my current system. The iMac has faster RAM, and newer Core i7 processors @ 2.8GHz that turbo up to 3.46GHz.
My fourth question is, when using Parallels 5 Desktop for Mac and configuring a VM I can choose how many processor cores I dedicate to the VM, will it show up as 8 or only 4?
can anyone tell me if the built in camera on the new imac is capable of capturing video? can this only be done in ichat? i figured out how to take pictures using photo booth but i figured there must be a way to use this camera as a webcam without video conferencing or chatting. any suggestions?
I'm considering buying an iMac (Which would be my first Mac) soon, and I have a few questions I'd like to have answers to before buying one. I plan buying the new Quad Core 27" iMac, in case it matters when answering my questions. Is it possible/recommended to add non-Apple RAM to the iMac? Are there any disadvantages to this? What are they?Is the new Magic Mouse capable of middle clicking in any way?Is there a wired version of the Magic Mouse? I'm not a big fan on Wireless keyboards and mouses, as they run on batteries.I've read somewhere that to right click in Magic Mouse you have to raise your left click finger, is that true? It may seem like it is according to the video in Apple's website. (The demonstrator raises his finger before he right clicks.)
I purchased a lovely 27" iMac yesterday. I have installed Windows 7 64bit on it and apart from a few quirks everything is running very well.
One thing that is bothering me is the Windows7 screensavers and power-management... they never activate. The power-saving features of Windows 7 don't seem to work at all. I did an install using the new "late 2009" drivers on a USB thumb drive during installation of Windows 7 so I think I've done everything properly. Is there something else I need to do in order to access Win7's power management features ?
Also, I've noticed that the Mac drivers for the ATI 4850 onboard graphics do not offer me the full range of resolutions (there are only a few options at the moment, the full native res, 1280x720, 1920x1080 and 800x600). How do I get access to the full range of resolutions ? Can I install ATI Radeon drivers and use those instead of the Apple supplied drivers ?
I have an IMac with Mac os X 10.7.3, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB of memory, this should be plenty to run Photoshop with no problems , however Photoshop keep crashing and being really slow.
I am poised to make the change from PC to Mac. However, I have a decision to make. I am currently running a 3ghz QUAD core, 8gb RAM with Windows Vista. The system runs well (yes, even though it is Windows) but I wish to move to Mac and ditch the Windows world. I plan to use Logic Pro so need a Mac. I have 2 x 24" monitors that set me back 700. I was thinking to keep those and perhaps buy a Mini Mac. The mini Mac can support 2x displays.
My big question is this: If I went for the 2.66Ghz Intel Duo Core Mini Mac with 8gb RAM, would this tun Logic Pro without any problems? Would it also run software like Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator / Premiere without hanging or being very slow? Who has a mini Mac and currently has these softwares installed? Please advise? Should I simply sell everything and go for an iMac?
I'm new to this forum, mostly because I've had such ease of use with macs over the years that I've had to search support forums. But with Snow Leopard less than 24 hours old, I've had my system "crash" 3 seperate times.
While running Photoshop CS2, the system will lock up. After a few seconds the system moves to a solid blue screen and then restarts the OS. It's almost like all programs running, including Finder are forced quit. There is "bong" over the system starting up or anything.
To clarify, I'm running a brand Mac Mini, 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. At the time of the crash I had nothing more than iTunes and PS CS2 running. During each crash I was doing simple tasks, a color selection, opening an effects panel and opening a very small smart object.
Also to note, I downloaded Safari 4 months ago when it was still in beta, and had no problems. The Safari that comes packaged with Snow Leopard is extremly sluggish and has forced me to use FireFox.
Just about to buy a Imac 27 i7 with the SDD and 2TB, where I also will run Windows 7 (64bit). Is it ok to make to partitions on the SDD for MAC OS and Win7? Never had a SDD HD before, so just want to be sure to partitions works as always here.
I have found a bug with the 27" iMac (i upgraded from a 24" imac. stupid move.?)when I zoom in on an image the window with go on the RH side to the iMacs max screen width. in that it hides the scroll bars behind the Pallet and side menus and options.Has anyone else had this problem.?has anyone else found a cure for this also.
