PowerPC :: Would An IMac G4 Be Capable Of Running Everyday Tasks Quickly

Mar 18, 2010

I have always liked the iMac G4 since i was a little kid and thought that the computer in the commercial looked cool. I wanted to get one for my birthday but my dad thinks that since it is like 5 years old it would not be capable of performing the tasks i do every day, like watching videos and listening to music on iTunes, watching YouTube videos, going on facebook; twitter; and other Adobe Flash and Java based websites. Does anybody who owns a mac know if it plays videos well, if it supports modern Adobe and Java players, and if it is generally a fast computer?

OS X :: Windows So Slower At Most Everyday Tasks?

Dec 12, 2009

Most people here know that if you have two computers, both with the same hardware, and one is running Mac OS X and one is running Windows, the Mac is usually faster in most aspects. I know that Windows is, in general, a much less efficient OS, but specifically, why? I've heard that a lot of it is due to the fact that Windows will try to do 100 useless things if you ask it to do one simple thing, also I've heard that Microsoft wrote Windows by getting loads of people to go off and do different parts of the OS, then they would just paste it together rather than taking off the useless parts, fitting each part together and optimizing it. I just need a more straightforward answer as I will be using it in an essay.

OS X :: Is My Imac Capable Of Running Leopard?

Jan 29, 2009

I Have an Imac that is a couple of years old (2006 white). Here is the system profiler specs:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors:1
Total Number Of Cores:2
L2 Cache (per processor):2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B08
SMC Version: 1.1f5

My daughter just bought Ilife 09, and while I was reading the requirements, it says it requires OSX 10.5 (Leopard). I am running 10.4.11. I would buy Leopard, but I heard it needs a computer with a minimum bus speed of 867 MHz. It seems to be a domino effect. I would buy it, but I cannot return it opened.

IMac :: To Capable Of Running Photoshop CS5 In 64bit Mode?

Apr 18, 2010

I have a white 24" iMac with a Core2 Duo processor, running Snow Leopard 10.6.3.

The new Photoshop CS5 extended software can run on 64-bit.

I know it also depends on the processor's firmware. Will my iMac be able to run Photoshop CS5 (comes out June 30th 2010) in 64-bit mode?

Windows On Mac :: MP 1.1 Capable Of Running Any Win 64bit Versions?

Nov 13, 2009

i have a Mac Pro 1,1 (2007) running 10.6.2 with Boot Camp 3.0.1 and i want to install some version of Windows 64 bit via Boot Camp so i can utilize all of my RAM for playing PC games.

I've already done a bit of research on this, but i cannot get a clear consensus on which ones will work (if any).

Does anyone know of any versions of 64 bit Windows that i can use to successfully install on my Mac Pro 1,1 with boot camp?

MacBook Air :: 13" 256GB Built To Order - 4GBram 2.1GHz C2D Capable Of Running Virtual Machine?

Nov 17, 2010

I am an IT student who is studying Vmware, Oracle11g, MCITP, Linux ,CCNA, and etc.. Is it good to have a "Built To Order MacBook Air 13"" (256GB SSD 4GBram 2.1GHz C2D ) to run a windows server 2008 virtual machine with oracle 11gR1 installed on it? Or is it better to run that VM on a mac book pro 17" (Core i7 2.66CPU, 4GB ram ,500GB 5400rpm harddrive)? or 7200rpm HD? Air got a faster Storage drive (SSD) but slower CPU. Pro got a faster Cpu but slower storage drive (HD drive). I am so confused>< Pro or air which one has a better performance for running that vm? which one's battery life last longer for running that vm?

IMac :: Using As Monitor And Utilize Quad Core For Networked Tasks

Oct 22, 2009

A recent post on Wired Site made me think that the 27" iMac could really be the ultimate computer for the graphic professional and offices in the graphics field. I don't know if this theory was discussed or if it is actually possible but according to Apple, the new iMac can be used as an external monitor for another device. If you bought the 27" iMac Core i7 version and hooked it up to a MacPro as a render server, that's a lot more computer for little to no more additional work space.

Also, if this is possible, you could buy an iMac now and once you outgrow it you can still use it as a monitor for a Mac Pro and utilize the quad core for networked tasks like background rendering. Futher, if everyone in your office used a 27" iMac as a monitor (as it really is only about $100 less than the 30" cinema screen) and had a Mac Pro. You'd potentially have quite a networked renderfarm without actually taking up any more physical space in your office. That is if you can make it function that way.

PowerPC :: IMac G5 Running SUPER Hot - How To Cool Down

Feb 17, 2010

I'm not sure what the issue is, but my 20" iMac G5 PowerPC is running so hot and smelling very "electrical".

I took the case off the back of it, and it seems where the G5 metal portion (not sure what it's called) is the source of all the heat. I can't really put my finger on it for more than a couple seconds because it's so hot.

Some recent things I've done was lube the fan, and replaced the RAM. I got the RAM per the Crucial ram identifier program that runs on the computer and lets you know which type to purchase.

IMac :: 4850M GPU Be Capable - Install An Intel X25-M G2 SSD

Mar 6, 2010

I have several questions.

My first question is, what will the 4850M GPU be capable of? Say in terms of playing Crysis: Warhead and BFBC2?

My current system is a 08 Mac Pro Octo @ 3.0GHz, 18GB 800MHz RAM, GTX 285, and Intel X25-M G2 SSD, 1920x1200 res on a 23" ACD.

How comparable is the 4850M 512MB to the GTX 285 1GB? Could I play Crysis on medium settings w/ no AA @ 2560x1440?

My second question is, how easily can I install an Intel X25-M G2 SSD? Also will I be able to take the iMac into the store and get them to install the SSD?

My third question is, will I notice much of an improvement over my current system. The iMac has faster RAM, and newer Core i7 processors @ 2.8GHz that turbo up to 3.46GHz.

My fourth question is, when using Parallels 5 Desktop for Mac and configuring a VM I can choose how many processor cores I dedicate to the VM, will it show up as 8 or only 4?

IMac :: Magic Mouse Capable Of Middle Clicking?

Oct 21, 2009

I'm considering buying an iMac (Which would be my first Mac) soon, and I have a few questions I'd like to have answers to before buying one. I plan buying the new Quad Core 27" iMac, in case it matters when answering my questions. Is it possible/recommended to add non-Apple RAM to the iMac? Are there any disadvantages to this? What are they?Is the new Magic Mouse capable of middle clicking in any way?Is there a wired version of the Magic Mouse? I'm not a big fan on Wireless keyboards and mouses, as they run on batteries.I've read somewhere that to right click in Magic Mouse you have to raise your left click finger, is that true? It may seem like it is according to the video in Apple's website. (The demonstrator raises his finger before he right clicks.)
