IMac :: Photoshop Running Slow / Showing Loading Screen After Creating Things

Jun 2, 2010

I just brought a brand new IMAC 21.5" the base model (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics) with 4 gb RAM. I downloaded the trial version of adobe cs5 to check if it runs ok but when I am starting things from scratch like just creating things from a blank canvas it runs so slow like trying to paint stuff and render it comes up with a loading screen it just doesnt do it straight away. But when I am working on photos it seems to run ok. Is there away to solve this issue? Do I need to updated my RAM to make it run smooth?

Mac :: Mini Running Slow Since Loading Leopard / Make It High?

Dec 28, 2009

My Mac Mini has been running slow since I upgraded to Leopard several months ago. It is not Snow Leopard. My Mac Mini is running software version 10.5.8 and my processor is a 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 with 512 MB RAM. Am I running slow since my Mac Mini is intel? Should I switch it back to Tiger or is there any other suggestions you can make. I have run the disk utility and have run the repair permissions. The computer is especially slow on Safari where it is faster on my MacBook pro.

MacBook Pro :: Running Really Slow And Loading Symbol Over Cursor Appears A Lot

Jun 27, 2014

I noticed ever since I downloaded "carbonite" It's been acting like this. It's slow and that little loading symbol over the cursor appears a lot. Could my hard drive

be failing or is it just something like I have too much stuff on my memory? I downloaded carbonite for crap just like this in case my hard drive crashes or something that I don't need. But the program seems like pretty much garbage anyway since it didn't even backup anything important and it seems like it doesn't even have enough storage or memory. It also doesn't even backup external files so it's kinda useless. Especially if this is the reason my Macbook Pro has been running slow.

Well anyway, this is all of the information I have. I'm going to back up everything on a floppy disk or something of that nature ASAP because my lively hood is on this laptop. I need to protect all my files and external files anyway I can. Is Timemachine any good

OS X :: IMac Very Slow After A Few Hours Use - Especially When Using Photoshop

Jan 30, 2009

I have a fairly new iMac (mid-2008 20" model) with a 2.4ghz Intel processor. I am a web designer and use this machine every day for my work. Several months after installing Adobe Creative Suite 3, I noticed that Photoshop was causing the cursor to jump and/or become jerky, as if the video card or processor were not keeping up with what's going on. This tends to happen after the computer's been in use for several hours or days after a restart. I have been following this in Leopard's Activity Monitor, and I noticed that Photoshop (being memory- and processor- hungry) taxes the processor more heavily than many other programs, which I expected. The strange thing, though, is that over time the Activity Monitor shows the "System" as taking up more and more processor capacity. I.E. when I first start up, the system is using 0-20% of the processor, the rest being available for the user; but after awhile, the system is requiring 50-90% of processor capacity, the result being that as soon as I switch into Photoshop from another program, the system is immediately overtaxed and starts moving very slowly (especially the cursor, as I said).

Now, here's the really strange part. As I said, this began happening a few months after I first installed Adobe CS3. I re-installed the software at Adobe's recommendation, and it was fine for another few months, but it began happening a few days ago, which is exactly the same time I shared a jump drive with a friend's worm-infected Windows XP machine. I know Macs don't get Windows worms, but is it possible that this thing has lodged itself on my system somehow and is causing it to run generally more slowly?

IMac :: To Capable Of Running Photoshop CS5 In 64bit Mode?

Apr 18, 2010

I have a white 24" iMac with a Core2 Duo processor, running Snow Leopard 10.6.3.

The new Photoshop CS5 extended software can run on 64-bit.

I know it also depends on the processor's firmware. Will my iMac be able to run Photoshop CS5 (comes out June 30th 2010) in 64-bit mode?

OS X :: Won't Fix Snow Leopard Sleep Freeze / Slow And Showing Blue Screen

Jul 30, 2010

1. When closing the lid or pressing the power button the computer freezes, the fans start spinning fast it stays like that until it drains the battery. This happens every time.

2. Start-up times are very long, like 3 or 4 minutes. This also happens every time.

3. Now after a fresh snow leopard install it doesn't even start up completely, as it stays showing a light blue background and I can hear the music of the introductory animation.

4. Also, the keyboard is unresponsive at the login screen, but the mouse cursor moves and the display goes to sleep normally. Clicking anywhere with the mouse also produces no effect.

5. It seems to work OK in safe mode.

The macbook worked ok with the factory installed Tiger. The SL DVD is OK, as its installation has been tested on another Mac. The machine's advanced hardware test passed successfully. Resetting Pram and SMC did not solve the problem.

IMac :: Aluminium IMac Running Slow On One Account

I have an aluminium iMac, 2.4GHz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM, running Leopard. On one account, it runs slowly, with a noticeable delay in doing anything, even menus take a second do to anything once they've been clicked. It has all the updates installed and I've tried repairing the permissions and rebooting already.

Since I've only noticed it on one account, I'm inclined to think it's a corrupted user file or something.

OS X :: My IMac Running Slow

Mar 30, 2009

My PPC G4 iMac is slow as hell. I plan on upgrading soon enough to a newer iMac but in the meantime I'd love to recover some speed. I know i have a woefully low amount of RAM - 768 to be exact - but apparently I'm stuck with that. It was running better in the past but with time things just slowed to a crawl with minimal things open - Mail, Safari and maybe Word and Excel. I gave up trying to run PS Elements 3 on this machine. That just makes me want to scoop my eyes out with a spoon.

I run iClean regularly, I have my desktop clear of clutter. What can I do in the interim before I buy the new iMac to help things some? Or am I just S.O.L. and just be patient and wait for the new machine?

Why Is IMac Running Slow

May 14, 2012

My iMac is running slow and sometimes freezes. There shouldn't be a problem with memory (6GB); the backup HD is a 1GB WD and backup is run via Time Machine. Backup seems to run OK but there is an enormous drain on CPU usage and the process takes forever.

It stops at the grey screen with the apple symbol like its loading but never does. I've tried unplugging the whole thing then again got a blinking question mark folder. I just keep getting different things. A blank white screen.

OS X :: Imac Running Slow / Can't Clean

I am an absolute Mac virgin I have never used one before this is my first experience with them. We bought a imac for our daughter purely for the virus free factor and the computer just looked so good the graphics etc.

Anyway we have had the system now for over a year we all love it and have worked out the basics. My problem is that lately it has become very sluggish and jumps out of Safari a lot, Safari closes unexpectantly. It takes ages for even Word or anything to come up. What can I do to clean it up and make it run faster again. What do I go into.... I need the hows, wheres and whats?

OS X :: System Running Very Slow / Hangs At Gray Screen Ion Startup

Jan 29, 2010

Macbook Air, Rev A. Worked like a charm for 1.5 years.Upgraded to a Rev c SSD and gave the Rev A to the wife. She installed NOTHING.Within a few weeks it started running VERY slow. I'm talking 2 minutes of beach ball per click.I use Disk Utility to check the drive. No problems of any kind.

Rebooting would take -- and I'm not exaggerating -- over an hour. First it would sit with a grey screen for 5 minutes. Then with an apple logo for 10 more. Then with the little spinning circle for 30. Then the desktop background would show up and sit for 20 minutes, etc.

Was gonna upgrade to Snow Leopard so what the heck, backed it all up and installed Snow Leopard. To my surprise, it instaled Snow Leopard on top of the old OS -- it kept all the files around so no need to restore from backup.

Speed problem SOLVED!Then a few weeks later the same problems. This time I check the drive AND run the hardware test. No problems.I ERASED the entire drive. I installed Snow Leopard. All is good for a few weeks. Then the problem came back a 3rd time.

I go to reinstall a 3rd time and Snow Leopard doesn't even acknowledge that there's a hard drive in the machine! And when I look in system profiler it says there's no drive of any sort. Yet it will reboot and run... just VERRRRRYYYY slowly.

I'm ready to replace the drive with a Runcore SSD or some such other device but I want to be sure the problem is the drive and not some other aspect of the hardware (motherboard, RAM, etc.)Anyone ever seen this? Anyone have any ideas as to how to investigate, solve, conquer, save myself from madness??

Since I have always used PC's, although I am very excited, I am trying to gather all information possible to make the switch easy and be productive on the the new MacBook. I have a simple question, I know on windows when you have many things running at one time it tends to bog and slow down. Running things in the background are the issues I am getting at. Does running application and widgets in the background of a MacBook cause them to slow noticeably?

IMac :: Running Slow / Using For Video Editing

Feb 12, 2010

My iMac will be 3 years old Oct 19 2010 and it's running pretty slow. I do a lot of video editing and have 1GB of memory ( I think that's the RAM). I'm pretty sure that's not the right amount of RAM I should have for the things I'm doing but I could be wrong. I have about 5 apps open at once for recreational use and about 2 for video editing, those 2 being Final Cut Pro and iTunes. So would it be my low amount of RAM causing my computer to slow down or another reason?

IMac :: System Running Slow Because Of Blown Capacitors

Aug 20, 2009

I was talking to a friend last night and he was saying him mom had a 4 year old iMac that she had barely used. Her windows computer died and the local computer shop moved everything to the iMac and when the mom complained the iMac was slow the computer shop told her it had blown caps. To me blown caps wouldn't cause it to run slow, lock up and be unreliable I would believe but not slow. Has anyone had a Mac just run slow because of blown capacitors?
