Just about to buy a Imac 27 i7 with the SDD and 2TB, where I also will run Windows 7 (64bit). Is it ok to make to partitions on the SDD for MAC OS and Win7? Never had a SDD HD before, so just want to be sure to partitions works as always here.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I just finished installing Windows 7 Professional 64bit via boot camp, but I had an issue when I put in the 10.6 disc to get the Drivers for everything. I'm running the 2.4Ghz Aluminum MacBook (not the pro). When I try to run the disc, it says that x64 is not supported on this machine. Am I boned? Or are there other options, because I really don't want to buy 32bit, because my school provides 64bit for free. I'm just looking for the drivers for the iSight, trackpad functions, and the keyboard functions (volume, iTunes, etc).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI rarely run Boot Camp but whenever I'm using Boot Camp on my 13" MBP [Summer 2009 model] it really heats up a lot. I generally use IE8 or Google Chrome, & the Zune software. Not much besides that to be honest, occasionally I used MediaMonkey as well.
Anyway, point is for some reason - regardless of programs running - the notebook appears to be getting extremely hot.
I want to increase the fan speed while in Boot Camp so it doesn't run so hot. Any ideas/recommendations as to do doing this?
In OS X [10.6] it works perfectly fine so definitely something related to Windows drivers but increasing the fan speed should remedy, no?
So, I have a mid 2008 24" iMac (the one with the black plastic backing) with all the possible hardware upgrades available at the time. I recently upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard, which went great, except it messed up Vista. So i deleted the partition and started over, only with 64 bit Win 7 (with a disc i bought from MS). Boot Camp 3.0 installed it just fine, except now that I'm running Win 7, Boot Camp is no where to be found so I can't access Snow Leopard in any way. I pop in the Snow Leopard disc and it simply says my computer model does not support x64 boot camp.
View 7 Replies View Related I am an utter newbie here, and I just got an late 2007 iMac the one with 2.4ghz Dual Core and the ati2600 320gb HD Model for a great price.
I just downloaded Windows 7 (64-bit) from my school's software hub and burned it to a bootable disc. I partitioned my drive, and was able to boot from the installation CD. Now, for some reason, my copy of Windows 7 must be different from EVERYBODY else's, because when I start, it asks for the language, and then I click begin install. Here's where the problem comes. I immediately get a dialogue box that says I am missing a required device driver in order to continue the installation. Please insert the CD, USB, etc. with the required drivers. (Of course, it doesn't tell me what they are.) Now, here is where I would put in my Snow Leopard disk, if it weren't for the fact that the disk refuses to eject. So, I can't even begin the installation at all. Is there somewhere I can go on the disk to find these drivers and put them on a USB flash drive? Or any other work around for this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on my girlfriend's computer, it's a 13" MBP, 4 GB, 2.4 GHz (mid-2010, 4 weeks old). I got through the installation without a hitch, got to the desktop, installed the Snow Leopard drivers, restarted... and then it froze after I typed in the password (the cursor circle froze, keyboard-trackpad unresponsive). I cleared the Bootcamp partition in OSX, repartitioned, and reinstalled again - this time without a password. It got to the desktop, and then after a few seconds the keyboard and trackpad became unresponsive again. This happens only when I install the SL drivers, upon restart. Now, I've tried reinstalling W7 a few times. I reformatted the whole disc, reinstalled SL... and still the same problem. I'm using a Windows 7 ISO from my university, the same ISO/Disc that I used to successfully install Windows 7 on my MBP.
I have since downloaded it twice, and burned the ISO three separate times, at 2.4x using Disc Utility. I've seen two similar instances discussed on other threads, but they were either adjacent to the main thread discussion (and unresolved), or just unresolved. In the installations that I've run since the initial few, I have run into issues that seem common (stalling when copying system files, etc.) I have since reformatted the whole disc, and those problems haven't arisen since. Also, I have successfully installed Windows XP from a university ISO on her computer. But she really needs Windows 7 64 bit... sorry for the long post, trying to be detailed. I updated SL before partitioning, and it's Bootcamp 3.1 (build 2328)
I installed Windows 7 64bit on a boot camp partition on my new Macbook. I remember when I installed Boot Camp 2 on my iMac, it allowed me to burn a cd with all the drivers. There was no option for that this time around. I want to be able to use my multi-touch track pad and I just can't seem to find out how to do it? With the last version everything just worked and took me step by step, whereas this time, I'm a little confused.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my late 2008 MacBook Pro and everything went smoothly until it came time for me to pop in my Snow Leopard disk and install the drivers. When I put the disk in I get a window called "Install Assistant" that has two options: "Remote Install Mac OS X" for MacBook Air computers and "DVD or CD Sharing" again for MacBook Air computers. This doesn't seem right. Shouldn't I get a window that lets me install the necessary drivers for Windows 7? I've also tried my 10.5 Leopard disk with the same result. I have also tried downloading the BootCamp 3.1 update, but when I attempt to install it I receive a message telling me that in order to install Boot Camp 3.1 I need to have BootCamp 3.0 or higher.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?
I think it worked at one point, but sometime around the point when I set up Fusion with the partition, Windows Aero turned off and is no longer an option in the display settings. I installed this driver with the modded INF to see if it would do anything, but Aero is still not an option. I also have issues playing some games in Fusion, while they work fine in Boot Camp.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi am new to these forums, i have recently purchaced a imac and i previously installed parralells on it which worked fine other than the fact i could not play games on it. I was told to install bootcamp to overcome this issue, however when i downloaded bootcamp and proceeded with the install at the windows stage of the process (the dos looking blue screen where you choose the partition) the partition bootcamp created for me did not show up, therefore i cancelled the windows setup but when the computer re booted it is stuck on a grey screen like when you turn it on, you cannot boot from the OS X cd's which came with the computer you cannot log in on safemode you pretty much can't do anything. I have backed up all important things prior to doing this but how would you format the computer if its not responding to the command to boot from the CD?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my Imac Harddrive from a standard 320 GB to a 1.5 TB Segate Barracuda 7200 Rpm 3GBS. Previously I had a boot camp partition for windows 7 ultimate. When I put in the new harddrive I decided to start fresh and do clean installs. Now when I try and install Windows 7 it goes fine until the last restart (4 total including initial restart). Then it just gets stuck at the screen where it says "Push any Key to Boot from CD or DVD". It will stay like that for a few seconds then the disk will stop spinning. So my question is now what do I do? I have to have windows for work purposes and this is driving me insane.

Whenever I play games in XP through Boot Camp, especially Sim City 4, my mac crashes with the audio looping over and over. I have to hold the power button to restart my mac. I've been searching for solutions, but haven't found any definitive answers. I recently updated the Realtek Audio drivers, but that didn't help. Could there be heat issues when playing games on the windows side that causes this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've googled this and looked here, and while there are many similar stories none are exactly the same as mine so I thought I'd post here. So, I was going to install the Windows 7 RC on a 2006 iMac intel Core Duo, which has a dead optical drive, so I was planning on using an external like I do for everything on this machine. After the restart to install Windows, I got a folder with a question mark, and figured that the iMac couldn't do the installation from an external drive but since it was looking for a disk got confused. I then hit the power button thinking that I'd just boot back into OS X until I found a solution, but when I hit the power again I got not even an inquisitive folder. Just a grey screen. I tried key combinations but nothing even seemed to get recognized. For example, the PRAM re-set combination did not get to a second chime, just the one chime and the grey screen. Command C did make the external drive spin (with an OS X disk in it) but nothing other then that. And Command D with the original install disk in did spin as well, but I got no further then that chime and grey screen I got every time. I don't expect miracles of course, and I want to know how to fix this. This machine is out of warrantee, and if it needs an actual hardware repair I'd rather find out what it needs and do it myself then have someone else do it. I know I can, and it is cheaper that way. And of course if there is a simple software fix I'd much prefer that.

I had a difficult time trying to installing Windows 7 on my computer the first time I did it, I had to slip in extra drivers and remove ram sticks and stuff like that but once I got it running it has ran fine without any problems. I skimmed through the SSD upgrade thread looking for info but I didn't see anything that jumped out at me. When I google'd the issue, almost all of the info I found was from 2009 and older. So, what is the best way to copy a Boot Camp partition to a new hard disk?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI own every piece of software and hardware from Apple there is and I cannot understand that it seems that everything is about the iPad and iPhone right now. I have been having these issues since I got my 27" iMac. I can install Windows 7 just fine on my MacBook Pro and my previous 24" iMac.
Ever since I got the 27" iMac I get a black screen when installing Windows. I have found some posts that have a way around it, which seemed to have worked but now I am getting the blue screen of death. Doesn't matter if Windows 7 is supported by Apple or not but Boot Camp is and it should be corrected.
There is no excuse that after 6 months this issue has still to be addressed, all Apple talks about now is iPad and iPhone, I am sick of it.
BTW I own an iPad and I don't see the big fuss about it, I bought it mainly to read books and watch Netflix on the go.
I have a 20'' iMac with a 2.4GHz Core 2 and an HD2600XT.
There are light vertical wavy floating lines visible on the screen when running Windows XP. They are more clearly seen when you look the screen at an angle, from down below you look upwards to the screen. The floating lines can be precisely seen on grey backgrounds. These lines are not noticable much, but when you closely look with grey backgrounds, they are visible.
The problem is very strange because I've tried updating the drivers to my HD2600XT, and no luck at all.
I'm not able to determine wether the problem is hardware of software related, due to the problem not existing in Mac OS X.
I launched the Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 on my iMac OS X v10.5. I was hoping to install Windows XP Professional with Built-in Service Pack 3. However, when I tried to partition the disk (32 GB on Windows), a message came up, saying "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It states some directions underneath, but, as I am new to Boot Camp and Mac, I don't know what to do and how to do. Please help!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a 2008 24 inch imac (3.06ghz C2D) and had some issues with it. First the hard drive failed, upon bringing it into the Apple store, they told me that they replaced the hard drive and screen (due to dust under it), however, this was not the case. What they had actually done is replace the entire unit and gave me a refurb which was previously registered to someone else (as evidenced by the registration info). A few months later, I had another issue, this time the logic board had failed and I once again had to lug this 20 pound beast through the largest mall in the city in order to get it to the Apple store (for the second time). I politely explained my discontent with this whole process, they did not inform me that the unit was a refurb and now it had failed yet again. Much to my surprise they offered me a replacement in the form of the i5 with a 1tb drive, 4 gigs of ram, the works. Now here is the problem: I was not given any of the included dvds as they do a "like-for-like" swap only. This is now an issue because I can not install Snow Leopard from the retail dvd, nor can I install Leopard from my previous iMac disks. In addition to this, I do not have the correct drivers for a boot camp install. Thus I am stuck if I ever need to reinstall Snow Leopard or if I need to utilize boot camp (which I do).

I then put the snow leopard disk in and it autoexec'd and then looked like it was installing stuff. Then it went to screensaver and would not respond to keyboard or mouse input.

I burned a DVD with 1x speed but when I tried to boot via DVD (pressing option key) it shows 2 option for DVD, Windows and EFI. I tried both and none worked. The Windows version starts and a DOS menu appears with 2 options which doesn't show what it is and then it freezes. The EFI option freezes imediately on the boot screen.
